Gold rates decline by Rs 2,400 to Rs222,100 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs 2,400 and was sold at Rs 222,100 on Wednesday compared to its sale at Rs 224,500 on the previous day.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs 2,058 to Rs 190,415 from Rs 192,473 whereas the price of 10 grams 22 karat gold went down to Rs 174,547 from Rs. 176,433, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained constant at Rs 2750 and Rs 2357.68 respectively.

The price of gold in the international market increased by $12 to $1,972 from $1,960, the association reported.

PMDC approves national medical dental curriculum

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has unanimously approved the National Medical and Dental curriculum for the year 2023-24.

The decision was made in PM&DC’s National Medical and Dental Academic Board meeting.

The Academic Board unanimously decided to constitute committees to review all the regulations and matters referred to the board entrusted under Section 13 of the PMDC Act 2022.

Chairman HEC and President CPSP extended their full cooperation and assistance with the PMDC Council to achieve quality medical education in Pakistan to further upgrade the standards across the world.

The Academic Board will formulate the first-ever criteria, regulations and proforma for CME/CPD which will help to reinvigorate our doctors.

The CPSP has also ensured full support to assist and share measures taken in this regard at their end.

The committee will also devise CME/ CPD credit hours for general and specialist medical and dental practitioners for further renewal of their PM&DC licenses.

The efforts of President PMDC Prof Dr Rizwan Taj along with its team were appreciated for taking a significant step towards international recognition by applying to the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) for its accreditation programme in due time along with organizing workshops to improve relations with medical and dental colleges for recognition of WFME.

The Academic Board is constituted of highly qualified professionals from all provinces of the country, known nationally and internationally. The 21-member board will serve a four-year term in terms of section 11 of PMDC Act 22.

The 21-member National Medical and Dental Academic Board (NMDAB) was notified by the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) on July 14, to oversee the policy to maintain quality of education in undergraduate and post-graduate medical and dental institutions across Pakistan.

The PMDC) being the sole healthcare education regulator in Pakistan, aiming to improve healthcare delivery and education standards, sets excellence standards and implements them in all medical and dental institutes for undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The board’s primary functions are to frame medical and dental undergraduate accreditation standards, including curriculum, standards of medical Education / CME / CPD, academic standards of foreign institutions and examination standards, including the MDCAT, National Registration Examination and National Equivalence Board Examination.

It is pertinent to mention here that since the Academic Board was not constituted, PMDC adopted the policies framed by the previous academic board in the broader interest of the students and doctors, which included the MDCAT, NRE and NEB examinations.

The meeting was presided by the Chairman Academic Board Prof. Dr.Zahid Aman Dean Khyber Girls Medical College Peshawar while Dr. Syed Azhar Ali Shah assisted the forum as Secretary to the Board. The meeting was attended by all the members of the Academic Board.

KARACHI, July 26 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday stressed upon formulation of a comprehensive export policy and assured that the present government would make every effort to facilitate the exporters, traders, industrialists and businessmen.

He said that port city of Karachi had always been a gateway and home to exporters, traders and entrepreneurs that always served as a backbone for the national economy.

He was addressing at  Karachi Chamber of Commerce (KCCI) Export Trophy Awards ceremony.

The prime minister said that Karachi always held the place of main hub for revenues generation for the country and underlined that Pakistan required extensive efforts for boosting its exports by setting up industries and utilization of modern techniques to compete at the global market.

He also appreciated the contribution of exporters and industrialists for country’s economy and said that despite difficulties, they made relentless efforts to increase exports.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tissori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, federal ministers, provincial ministers, parliamentarians, office bearers of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and relevant authorities were present during the ceremony.

The prime minister also observed that when compared with the neighbouring countries with regard to booming industries and exports, they still lagged behind in this race.

Enumerating various factors of the past, he said they required very serious deliberations to evaluate the factors including the successes, failures of the past governments and lack of modern techniques, and issues faced by the industrial sector etc.

“With mere blame game, they will not get anything concrete as it would only cause damage and result in wastage of time. There should be a frank discussion as to how the challenges faced by the industry can be mitigated by the government by facilitating them,” he added.

The prime minister viewed the price of power and gas as vital factors behind the industrial development.

He said the country was blessed with natural resources and said this year, the country would produce a bumper crop as according to estimates, the cotton production could reach up to 10 million bales.

“Pakistan is blessed with natural resources and brilliant minds, but it cannot get place among the comity of nations if they keep on promoting rental businesses,” he said and stressed upon increase in production and setting up industries, that would take the country on path of rapid progress.

The prime minister expressed the optimism that with restructuring, collective hard work and the government’s sincere efforts, they would be able to put the country on track of progress and prosperity.  

He also hoped that the Interim government and the upcoming government would take these initiatives forward.

The prime minister also emphasised upon resolution of supply of water for Karachi and said that the federal and provincial governments were making efforts in this regard.

He felicitated the trade community and exporters for showing success in the export sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said the government-business community strain should come to an end by joining heads to address the issues.

He said the concerted efforts were a must to resolve the economic woes of the country.

He lauded the prime minister’s efforts for the economic revival and called for addressing the problems faced by the business community.

Chief Executive of TDAP Zubair Motiwala, in his presentation, appreciated the govt’s endeavors for economic reforms and devising long-term plans for agriculture, IT and mining.

Highlighting the energy issues, he said owing to gas supply suspension, Karachi’s industry remained closed every Saturday and Sunday.

He said Karachi contributed 52% of country’s exports but the power price was hurting the industry and could cause closures and unemployment. Instead of raising the tariff, the issues of line and transmission losses should be done away with, besides reviewing the free power supply facility to the officials.

He also called for evolving a consensus on the charter of economy, cutting down expenditures and enhancing local production.

He also suggested to placing the industry on top in the gas supply priority list and giving cold chains an industrial status.

KCCI President Tariq Yousuf said the event was to recognize the contribution of the exporters who played a major role in the country’s economic development.

He said with around 50,000 members, the KCCI was the largest voice of the business community.

He told the gathering that despite difficulties and challenges, Karachi was the major contributor to taxation and GDP.

He said economic and political instability had shattered the confidence of the customers, so efforts should be made to keep the industry running through remedial measures particularly, by reducing the power tariff.

The KCCI president also called for a mechanism to ease the LC’s opening, reducing the interest rate and introducing a contactless taxation system.

Earlier, the prime minister gave away prizes and medals among the prominent exporters.

NTRC sensitizes people on road safety

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): National Transport Research Center (NTRC) on Wednesday conducted a road safety workshop to educate drivers, citizens and professionals on the fundamentals of road safety, and analyze national and global trends in fatalities.

“The primary goal of the workshop was to develop a better understanding of strategies and policies to foster a safer road environment in the country,” said a press release.

The training course witnessed active participation from diverse stakeholders, reflecting a shared commitment towards adopting a road safety culture in Pakistan.

“The workshop truly helped me to understand road sensitivity, which resultantly empowered me as a safe driver,” a participant expressed after the workshop.”

Chief NTRC expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the participants’ active involvement and commitment to road safety.

In the end, participants were awarded course completion certificates in recognition of their dedication, and active participation.

Economy on track of progress as default risk ebbs away: PM

KARACHI, July 26 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the country’s economy was on the course of progress as the risk of default has been averted, consequent to the efforts by the coalition parties.

The prime minister, in a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Business Council here, said all the coalition parties cooperated in every decision of the government.

He said the government was keen to revive national economy through investment facilitation and business-friendly policies.

The prime minister said restoring the confidence of investors and the business community was the greatest achievement.

He said the government would miss no opportunity for economic recovery, restoration of confidence of international partners, investors and the business community.

He told the meeting that a Special Investment Facilitation Council had been established for foreign direct investment in Pakistan.

He acknowledged that the business community did not only provide employment opportunities in the country but also becomes a source of foreign exchange by enhancing exports.

Headed by Chairman Muhammad Aurangzeb, the PBC delegation appreciated the federal government’s efforts for economic revival during the last year.

They also lauded the government for successfully signing the agreement with the International Monetary Fund and appreciated the incorporation of the business community’s proposals in its policies.

The prime minister welcomed the PBC’s proposals and appreciated the business community’s role in the country’s socio-economic development.

Federal ministers Marriyum Aurangzeb, Engineer Khurram Dastgir, Minister of State Dr Musaddik Malik, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, State Bank of Pakistan governor, parliamentarians and senior officers attended the meeting.

WPC forms ‘Alliance for Women Inclusive Electoral and Political Processes’

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): In a momentous step towards empowering women in the political landscape, the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) on Wednesday formed the ‘Alliance on Women Inclusive Electoral and Political Processes’ recognizing the urgent necessity to address the existing gender disparities in electoral and political processes.

A significant meeting held at the National Assembly Secretariat and Co-chaired by WPC Secretary, Dr. Shahida Rehmani, and Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Law and Justice, Mehnaz Akber Aziz, which was also garnered representation from various government and civil society organizations.

Mehnaz shared that all stakeholders unanimously agreed on the critical importance of inclusive political participation for women, underscoring the need to engage young women in the political arena.

She remarked that this landmark alliance aimed to foster a more equitable and representative political landscape by advocating for the active participation of women in decision-making and governance. She said this forum would provide a platform for experts, policymakers, activists, and citizens to deliberate on concrete measures to enhance women’s involvement in electoral processes and strengthen their representation in political spheres.

The formation of the Alliance on Women Inclusive Electoral and Political Processes marked a moment of hope and progress for gender equality in Pakistan, the secretary remarked.

By working together towards a more inclusive and representative democracy, she said the Alliance aspired to create a nation where women’s voices were heard, and their rights and aspirations were fully acknowledged and protected.
