Expanding  CCTV system, aims to further improve the law & order situation in the city

LARKANA, Aug 11 (APP):Larkana Police have initiated the installation of additional CCTV cameras at the city’s entry and exit points, markets, and areas surrounding financial institutions on Monday.
                          On the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Larkana Ahmed Chaudhry, the process of installing advanced CCTV cameras has begun under the supervision of CCTV Section Incharge Riaz Ahmed Bhutto, aiming to enhance crime control in key areas, including markets and financial zones.
                             During this phase, a team of experts and police officers visited crucial entry and exit points as well as various other locations, identifying potential spots where additional CCTV cameras could be installed to effectively curb criminal activities.
                              Speaking on the occasion, SSP Larkana Ahmed Chaudhry stated that expanding the CCTV system aims to further improve the law-and-order situation in the city, closely monitor the movement of criminal elements, and enhance police efficiency.
                      He emphasized that the use of modern technology has become indispensable in line with current demands, and all aspects of the CCTV installation process have been thoroughly reviewed before proceeding with further steps.
                        The SSP added that no system can be complete without public cooperation and urged citizens to play their full role in making this initiative successful.

Rescue 1122 Lakki Marwat provides services in 198 emergencies last week

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 11 (APP):The district’s emergency service of Lakki Marwat-Rescue 1122 tackled 198 emergencies over the last week.
Giving details, the spokesman says that total emergencies include 161 medical emergencies, 12 road accidents, 15 fighting or bullet injuries-related incidents and one fire eruption incident.
He said that during these emergencies 185 patients were safely shifted to hospitals while providing them first aid on the spot.
He said that the services received a total of 3304 emergency calls, out of which 1933 were irrelevant or fake calls, he added.
The rescue service also successfully handled 57 emergency incidents in which patients were shifted from district to another district.
During the referral-related emergencies, the spokesman said a total of 59 patients were benefited or rescued.

Badminton match held in Larkana as part of Marka e Haq

LARKANA, Aug 11 (APP):In connection with Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, organized the Sports Festival Week “Battle for Truth” badminton tournament at Khuhro Complex,Larkana on Monday.
The chief guests of the event, Chairman of the District Council Larkana, Ejaz Ahmed Leghari, and Deputy Commissioner Larkana, Wajahat Ghafoor Mirani, jointly inaugurated the badminton match and introduced the participating teams.
During the ceremony, Chairman of the District Council Larkana, Ejaz Ahmed Leghari, while talking to the media, said that they were holding this program under the title “August 14 Independence Day — Battle for Truth,” and that the match was being held with the cooperation of Larkana District Sports.
 He added that the district administration was also actively participating in such programs to inspire enthusiasm and passion among the youth. He further said that we must value our freedom because we are breathing in a free homeland.
Before the ceremony, Pakistan’s national anthem was played, and the national flag was hoisted. On the occasion, slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Long Live Pakistan Army” were also raised.
In the badminton competition, Larkana secured first position, while Kashmore-Kandhkot came in second. Trophies, medals, and prizes were distributed among the winning players. Guests were also presented with traditional Sindhi cultural gifts — topi (cap), ajrak (shawl), and honorary shields.
                       The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the District Council Larkana Asadullah Bhutto, District Sports Officer Mahfooz Makani, District Attorney Larkana Advocate Abdul Nabi Sario, and other distinguished personalities.

UAE maintains global lead in digital transformation

ASTANA, Aug 11 (Kazinform/APP) : The UAE continues to strengthen its leading position on the global digital transformation map, driven by a forward-looking vision and ambitious national policies that have made digital innovation a cornerstone of sustainable development and economic competitiveness, WAM reports.
Public and private institutions are adopting policies that place people first, viewing them as both the beneficiaries and leaders of the transformation process. Numerous international reports highlight the country’s rapid progress in this field and its top rankings in prestigious global indices, reinforcing its regional and global leadership in modern technology and smart transformation.
According to the United Nations E-Government Survey 2024, the UAE ranked first globally in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index, achieving a full score of 100 percent. This reflects the extensive reach and high efficiency of digital networks, underscoring the maturity of the country’s digital infrastructure.
As per the Speedtest Global Index issued by global company Ookla, the UAE has maintained its first-place ranking worldwide for mobile internet speed from July 2024 to June 2025. In the latest update for June, the UAE recorded an average download speed of 546.14 megabits per second, significantly ahead of its nearest global competitors.
In 2024, the UAE Government achieved a milestone in digital services, completing 173.7 million digital government transactions. More than 57 million beneficiaries accessed 1,419 digital government services, with a satisfaction rate of 91 percent.
Meanwhile, UAE cities secured advanced rankings in the IMD Smart City Index 2025. Dubai ranked fourth globally and first in the Arab world, while Abu Dhabi came fifth worldwide. These rankings reflect the progress made in digital services, smart infrastructure, and improving quality of life in the emirates.
The UAE also topped the region in the Government AI Readiness Index 2024, issued by Oxford Insights, which covered 193 countries. The index measured government efficiency, the development of the technology sector, the availability of data and infrastructure — all areas in which the UAE continues to advance confidently.
The Interregional Centre for Strategic Analysis in Abu Dhabi stated that the UAE is steadily moving towards regional leadership in artificial intelligence sectors, supported by targeted investments in research, skills, and innovation.
Experts told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the UAE has not only played a leading role in digital transformation but has also become a global model in comprehensive transformation and innovation.
Rasha Abdo, Director of Strategic Client Team for the Middle East and North Africa at Infobip, said the UAE continues to enhance its global standing in AI and digital transformation. She noted that topping the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index with a perfect score directly reflects the strength of its digital networks.
She highlighted landmark initiatives such as Dubai Government’s 360 Services policy, aimed at delivering proactive and integrated people-centred services, adding that the UAE is setting new global standards in digital service delivery across both the public and private sectors.
Abdo added that the UAE’s transformative framework is a leading model in providing people-first digital services, supported by AI and automated technologies at the government level. She said the UAE continues to set new benchmarks in innovation across public and private sectors, particularly in banking, retail, and healthcare services.
Amjad Al Sabbagh, Group Vice-President for the Middle East and Africa at Sprinklr, said the maturity of the UAE’s digital ecosystem has moved beyond the adoption of technologies to creating experiences tailored to individual needs. He added that aspirations now go beyond speed to include a human dimension and the anticipation of future needs.
He stressed that designing services and prioritising digital transformation have become key drivers of economic growth in the UAE. He pointed out that the country’s target to double the digital economy’s contribution to GDP by 2030 aligns with projections that AI will contribute 13.6 percent to GDP, equivalent to US$100 billion, bolstering economic diversification and sustainable innovation. Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan and the UAE have discussed boosting investment cooperation.

IRSA releases 343,500 cusecs water

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP):Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Monday released 343,500 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 358,800 cusecs.
 According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1546.00 feet which was 144.00 feet higher than the dead level of 1402.00 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 243,900 cusecs and 243,500 cusecs, respectively.
The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1206.20 feet, which was 156.20 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded 21,900 cusecs and 7,000 cusecs, respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 229,100, 214,800, 164,000 and 87,300 cusecs, respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 29,900 cusecs of water released at Nowshera and 32,300 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.

Qawwali night at Alhamra

LAHORE, Aug 11 (APP):The Alhamra Arts Council hosted a Qawwali night performance featuring renowned qawwals Najmuddin and Saifuddin.
The performance included the timeless poetry of Amir Khusrau, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, and other Sufi saints, creating an atmosphere of devotion, peace, and unity.
Qawwali, a 700-year-old tradition, blends poetry, melody, and rhythm to inspire spiritual reflection and connect the earthly with the divine.
Punjab Secretary for Information and Culture and Alhamra Executive Director Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani said Qawwali is “a sacred language that inspires love, peace, and unity, bringing serenity to the heart and clarity to the mind.”
Alhamra Chairman Razi Ahmad noted that Qawwali “connects hearts and souls” and reaffirmed Alhamra’s commitment to preserving this cultural heritage.
The evening ended with the audience deeply moved, marking another memorable event in Alhamra’s cultural journey.

Rescue 1122 handles 123 emergencies in a week

LOWER DIR, Aug 11 (APP):The Emergency Service Rescue 1122 responded to a total of 123 emergencies during the past week, extending timely assistance to 116 injured persons and patients, said District Emergency Officer Sanaullah on Monday.
He said the emergencies comprised 52 medical cases, five road traffic accidents, one fire incident, and six other miscellaneous cases.
The rescue teams provided on-site first aid and ensured the safe transfer of patients to medical facilities.
According to the official, 59 patients were shifted to various hospitals within the district as well as to health facilities in other areas to ensure specialized treatment.
The officer appreciated the dedication of the rescue staff in performing their duties efficiently and urged the public to cooperate with emergency services to help save lives.

Independence Day celebrations to feature women’s sports events

The Youth Education and Sports Welfare Society (YES) has unveiled a vibrant lineup of events aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports and fostering a healthy, active lifestyle, said a press release.
Chairman YES and Director General of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, said that programs have been planned in collaboration with the PHA and the District Sports Department Rawalpindi.
The schedule includes a tree plantation drive on August 14, a Women’s T10 Cricket League from August 22 to 24, and women’s matches in Australian Football (AFL) and baseball on September 6.
