China strongly condemns premeditated acts of desecration of Quran: Wang Wenbin

BEIJING, July 13 (APP): China supported the urgent debate held at the United Nations Human Rights Council over public and premeditated acts of desecration of the Quran and strongly condemned such acts that happened once again in the relevant country.

China supports holding this urgent debate and expresses its strong condemnation over the burning of the Holy Quran that happened once again in the relevant country, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Wang Wenbin said during his regular briefing on Thursday.

He said that China advocated mutual respect, inclusiveness and mutual learning between civilizations and firmly opposes all forms of Islamophobia.

The so-called freedom of speech is not a reason for stoking conflicts and antagonism between civilizations. All religious beliefs and feelings need to be respected, he added.

Wang Wenbin said that China will work with the international community to implement the Global Civilization Initiative, advocate equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations, safeguard the world diversity of civilizations and together advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

From July 11 to 12, the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council held an urgent debate on acts of burning the Holy Quran in relevant countries and passed a draft resolution proposed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, with a vote of 28 in favour, 12 against and 7 abstentions.

The resolution condemns the recent public and premeditated acts of desecration of the Holy Quran, decides to hold a topic discussion and an interactive dialogue at the 54th and 55th sessions of the UN Human Rights Council respectively and requests the High Commissioner to present an oral update on the root causes of religious hatred.

SC adjourns case regarding judges recruitment in Sindh

ISLAMABAD, Jul 13 (APP): The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered to share the copies of report with all respondents in a case pertaining recruitment of judges and staff in lower courts of Sindh province and adjourned further hearing till August 1.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case regarding the matter. The chief justice remarked that the purpose to take up this case was to ensure transparency in the process, adding that the registrar’s office of Sindh High Court (SHC) had sent a report in this regard.
Petitioner’s lawyer Khawaja Shamas ul Islam adopted the stance that the top court had already given observations against the said recruitments in its two orders. The chief justice remarked that the observation of this court in a judicial order was temporary in nature.
The chief justice observed that a committee comprising five judges of SHC had completed the procedure within three months regarding the recruitment of around 100 judges. A judicial committee was responsible for the recruitment of judges, he said.
The chief justice remarked that so for the court had not given a final judgment in this case. The further hearing of the case was then adjourned till August 1.

Law minister chairs meeting to finalize rules for Sex Offender Register

ISLAMABAD, Jul 13 (APP):A crucial meeting was convened on Thursday at the Law Ministry to discuss and finalize the rules pertaining to the establishment of a comprehensive Sex Offender Register.

The meeting was chaired by Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazir Tarrar, and attended by the Chairperson of the Special Committee and National Commission on the Rights of Child, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, the committee’s focal person and Deputy Advisor Ministry of Law and Justice Mr. Usama Malik, and Section Officer J.R Sultan. The purpose of the meeting was to present an update on the progress made so far.

During the meeting, the participants engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the framework and implementation of the Sex Offender Register. The Chairperson of the Special Committee expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present the progress made by the committee in developing robust rules and regulations for the register. Section Officer J.R Sultan elaborated on the intricate legal aspects that need to be considered while formulating a comprehensive and effective system.

The committee’s focal person, Usama Malik provided valuable insights into the technical aspects of maintaining and managing the register. The subject rules shall be finalised once approved by the special committee under the Anti Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021.

The minister, acknowledged the significance of establishing a Sex Offender Register to safeguard the rights and well-being of individuals, particularly vulnerable sections of society. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, especially children. With a firm resolve, the minister reaffirmed the ministry’s support for the Special Committee and its efforts to develop a robust and efficient system.

The creation of a Sex Offender Register is a crucial step in combatting sexual offenses and preventing the recurrence of such heinous crimes. This register will serve as a comprehensive database, enabling law enforcement agencies to effectively monitor and track convicted sex offenders, ensuring they are appropriately managed and their whereabouts are known at all times. By implementing this measure, the government aims to enhance public safety, promote transparency, and deter potential offenders.

Newly elected CM Gilgit-Baltistan takes oath

GILGIT, Jul 13 (APP): The newly elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Gulbar Khan took the oath of his office on Thursday, Governor Syed Mehdi Shah administered the oath.

A brief ceremony was held at the Governor House in Gilgit, attended by members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, political activists, members of civil society, and prominent government officials from various fields of life. Haji Gulbar Khan hails from the remote district of Diamer in Gilgit-Baltistan.

He first entered the Legislative Assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan as a member on the ticket of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam during the November 2009 elections. In 2009, he served as the Health Minister in the coalition government of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

In the 2015 elections, he faced defeat at the hands of the candidate from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

However, he emerged victorious in the 2020 elections on the ticket of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and continued to hold the position of Health Minister.

Following the incident on May 9th, he consequently formed a forward bloc with four other members from the Diamer district and strongly condemned the incident.

On Thursday, in the Chief Minister’s election, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam F played a crucial role in bringing Haji Gulbar Khan to the position of Chief Minister by joining forces with the members of the forward bloc.
