On Friday, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, made an impassioned appeal to the Pakistani-American community to step forward and help the flood affectees in Pakistan.

To date, 66 districts in Southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have been declared calamity hit, and officials said the rainfall in coming days is likely to wreak havoc in other areas.

Responding to appeals for help, the American-Pakistani Political Action Committee (APPAC), which is headed by Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, has begun an intensive campaign to raise funds to meet the urgent needs of the victims, sending emails and make phone calls to prompt its members across the country to contribute.

Assad Chaudhry, an APPAC board member, said they have already collected over $20,000 and more pledges are pouring in.
He said the money collected would be deposited in Pakistan government’s accounts devoted to flood relief.

Meanwhile, the New York Police Department’s Muslim Officers Society has also joined the effort.
In a notice posted on its website, the society said, “We are requesting everyone to keep everyone effected by the devastating floods in #Pakistan in your prayers and request you to take a moment and donate and help over 33 Million people that are impacted by #PakistanFloods .
“Every penny counts!!! Help Now!!!”

He said Pakistan also faced the devastating flood in 20110 but recent floods have more destructive impact than the earlier one.

The bridges, he said that were built by keeping in view the 2010 floods have also been washed away. So far more than 1000 people have died due to floods and torrential rains.

Ahsan Iqbal said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced Rs 100 billion for the 3 million flood affected families and the process of disbursing Rs 2500 to each family had already begun.
He said the friendly countries were also contributing tents and other relief goods for the affected people.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the provincial governments were also working round the clock for the relief of the flood affected people.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (APP): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari received a telephone call from Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Saturday and thanked him for Turkiye’s timely dispatch of the team for flood relief assistance at the outset.

The Foreign Minister highlighted that since June 2022, Pakistan had witnessed the highest rainfall on record. This had caused widespread flooding and landslides, with extreme repercussions for human lives, livelihoods, livestock, property, and infrastructure. The disaster would likely be compounded by riverine floods as well.

Bilawal Bhutto stressed that the extensive damage to infrastructure was further impeding the relocation of people to safer locations and the effective delivery of assistance.

The Foreign Minister shared with his Turkish counterpart that Pakistan had prepared a “UN Flash Appeal” which would be launched on 30 August 2022. He expressed the hope that the international community would contribute to meeting the funding requirements of the Flash Appeal.

India declares mentally unsound person as terrorist to defame Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (APP): Another proof of the Indian government’s nefarious propaganda to defame Pakistan has come to fore as it is presenting a mentally unsound Pakistani national as a terrorist.

Tabarak Hussain, a resident of Sabzkot village of Kotli in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and mentally unsound, was shot at and arrested in injured condition by Indian troops after he inadvertently crossed the Line of Control in Naushera area of Rajouri district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago.

Soon after his arrest, the Indian army and media trained their guns at Pakistan and unleashed their propaganda to prove that Tabarak Hussain was a terrorist sent by Pakistani authorities to carry out an attack on an Indian army post, Kashmir Media Service (KMS) reported on Saturday.

However, some videos of Tabarak Hussain have emerged on social media in which he is not seemed to be a normal person and even a layman can judge that he is mentally unsound. In some of these videos, he can be seen tied with ropes and chains so that he does not leave his home or harm himself or other people.

Now the Indian officials’ claim that he was paid a meager amount of Rs 30,000 by a colonel of Pakistan intelligence agency to attack the Indian army post is a white lie and a part of Indian nefarious attempts to defame Pakistan and its intelligence agencies at the international level.
It is worth mentioning here that Tabarak Hussain was arrested on April 25, 2016 also by the Indian authorities when he accidentally crossed the LoC and had to spend 26 months in imprisonment before being repatriated via the Attari-Wagah border due to his mental condition.
