China condoles to victims of heavy floods, announces emergency humanitarian aid

BEIJING, Aug 24 (APP): China on Wednesday expressed deep condolences to Balochistan and Sindh’a flood victims and announced to provide emergency humanitarian aid, including tents and other urgently needed relief material.

“China has noticed that severe floods have occurred in many places in Pakistan recently, causing heavy casualties and property losses.

We would like to express our deep condolences to the victims and our sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the injured and the people in the disaster area,” Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson said in a statement issued here.

He said, China and Pakistan were true friends who shared weal and woes, and had always a fine tradition of helping each other in major natural disasters.
Since the floods in Pakistan, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed condolences to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal, he added.

The spokesperson said, all of the 4,000 tents, 50,000 blankets, 50,000 tarpaulins and other reserves provided by China under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s social and people’s livelihood cooperation have been put into the front line of disaster relief.

Taking into account the current disaster situation in Pakistan, he said, China has decided to provide an additional batch of emergency humanitarian aid, including 25,000 tents and other urgently needed relief materials, and strive to deliver it as quickly as possible.
The Red Cross Society of China provided emergency cash assistance of US$300,000 to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, he added.

The spokesperson said, China will continue to promote bilateral cooperation in disaster prevention and climate change and other fields.

“It is believed that under the leadership of the Pakistani government and with the joint help of the international community, the people in the disaster-stricken areas will be able to overcome difficulties and resume normal life as soon as possible,” he added.
He recalled that after the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, the Pakistani side made every effort to airlift all the tents in reserve to the disaster area as soon as possible, and the Chinese side bears this in mind.

According to media reports, due to the strong monsoon rains, severe floods occurred in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Sindh province, killing more than 700 people and displacing more than 300,000 people.

Marriyum shares details for depositing donations in PM’s flood relief account

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday released the details for depositing donations in the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Account 2022.

In a statement, she said that State Bank of Pakistan had issued a circular for collection of donations through all commercial banks.

Local and overseas Pakistanis could deposit donations in this account, said the minister.

The minister said that 30-year rainfall record had been broken and unprecedented destruction had taken place across the country, especially in Balochistan and Sindh.

She appealed to the masses to support the countrymen in trouble and requested all Pakistanis here and abroad to donate generously.

She said that these donations could be deposited in Prime Minister Relief Fund Account 2022 Account No. ‘G-12164’

All Pakistanis could join the work of helping flood victims through donations. All commercial banks and their branches could collect donations in the Prime Minister Flood Relief Fund 2022 as per State Bank of Pakistan circular.

Overseas Pakistanis can also send donations through wire transfers, money service bureaus, money transfer operators and exchange houses. Donations can also be deposited in cash at all commercial banks. Deposits can also be made through cross-cheque, mobile and internet banking, ATMs, ABFT and Raast in the drop boxes of banks.

Seafood exports increase by 30% in July

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):The exports of fish and fish preparations increased by 30.02 percent during the first month of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding month of last year.

The seafood exports during July 2022 were recorded at US $18.506 million against the exports of US $14.233 million in July 2021, showing growth of around 30.02 per cent, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

In terms of quantity, the exports of fish and fish preparations increased by 18.47 percent by going up from 6,802 metric tons in July 2021 to 8,058 metric tons during July 2022.

However, on month-on-month basis, the seafood exports declined by 54.43 percent when compared to the exports of $40.608 million in June 2022, the PBS data revealed.

In terms of quantity, the fish exports declined by 54.95 percent in July 2022 when compared to the exports of 17,888 metric tons in June 2022.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s overall merchandise exports declined by 5.17 percent in July 2022 as compared to exports of July 2021. The exports during the month were recorded at US$2,219 million against the exports of US$2,340 million in last July.

The imports also declined by 12.81 percent to US$4,861 million in July 2022 compared to exports of US$5,575 million in July 2021.

Based on the figures, the merchandize trade deficit declined by 18.33 percent by going down form the deficit of US$3,235 million last July to US$2,642 million in July 2022, according to PBS data.

DOHA, Qatar, Aug 24 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Wednesday expressed satisfaction on the upward trajectory of bilateral relations and agreed to work together to further strengthen cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders, who met here at the Diwan-e-Amiri, during their extensive consultations, exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Cabinet Ministers and senior members.

Upon arrival at the Diwan-e-Amiri, the Prime Minister was welcomed by the Amir in an official ceremony and presented a Guard of Honour.

The two leaders then held delegation-level consultations, which were followed by a lunch banquet hosted by the Amir in the honour of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his entourage.

The two sides agreed inter alia to strengthen institutional engagement to increase bilateral trade; deepen collaboration in the agriculture and food sectors; boost cooperation in the fields of energy; encourage and facilitate Qatar’s investments in Pakistan’s renewable energy, tourism and hospitality sectors; provide more opportunities to Pakistanis interested in working in Qatar; and expand cooperation in defence, aviation and maritime domains.

The Amir reassured the Prime Minister of Qatar’s commitment to forge a stronger economic partnership with Pakistan.

The Prime Minister thanked the Amir for the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA)’s readiness to invest US $ 3 billion in various commercial and investment sectors in Pakistan.

Lauding Qatar’s remarkable economic transformation, the Prime Minister congratulated the Qatari leadership for its visionary and forward-looking approach and wished the Qatari people more success in the future.

Recalling Pakistan’s long-term partnership with Qatar in the field of LNG cooperation, he thanked the Amir for Qatar’s vital support in meeting Pakistan’s energy needs. The two sides also explored new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Pakistanis working and residing in Qatar were not only a source of strength for the economic progress of both countries but also a testament to the value of people-to-people linkages.

He hoped that Qatar’s rapid economic growth would present even greater opportunities for Pakistanis in the future.

The Prime Minister appreciated the extensive arrangements made by the Government of Qatar for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022.

He assured the Qatari leadership of Pakistan’s support for the successful organization of the mega event.

As the two leaders also exchanged views on the developments in the region, the Prime Minister appreciated Qatar for its long-standing and continuing efforts to promote peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

The two sides agreed to work together to help address the grave humanitarian and economic crises confronting the Afghan people, stressing that the situation warranted the international community’s scaled up assistance.

The Prime Minister highlighted the grave human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and underscored the importance of a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute for sustainable peace, security and prosperity in South Asia.

The Amir of Qatar congratulated the Prime Minister on assumption of office and wished him full success. He also conveyed his best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Pakistan.

The Amir appreciated the important contribution of Pakistanis in the development of Qatar, and shared Qatar’s resolve to provide enhanced employment opportunities for Pakistanis, in line with the Qatar Vision 2030.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of frequent high-level exchanges for maintaining the present momentum in bilateral cooperation.

The Prime Minister extended a cordial invitation to the Amir to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

Pakistan and Qatar enjoy long-standing, fraternal relations marked by shared faith, mutual trust, and close cooperation. This is the first visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Qatar since assuming office in April 2022.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister in a tweet posted on his social media account said he held a very productive meeting with the Amir of Qatar.

He said that the sides decided to take their excellent bilateral relations to the next level of bilateral engagement.

The Prime Minister further said that he was grateful to the Amir for Qatar’s investment of $ 3 billion in various sectors of Pakistan’s economy.

Shazia Marri criticizes PTI trolls for using flood situation to attack opponents

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri Wednesday criticized Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) trolls for using the flood situation to attack its opponents.

“Shame on PTI trolls for using the flood situation to attack opponents”, the federal minister said in a tweet.
She continued, “Instead of helping people at a time like this, they choose to utter rubbish!”.
“Imran should have taught them better but obviously they follow an insensitive and irresponsible man, they are bound to behave this way”, she said.
