1,500 athletes taking part in SBP summer camps of 14 games

LAHORE, Jul 11 (APP): Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail on Tuesday said that Sports Board Punjab’s mega Summer Camp programme was underway quite successfully at various sports venues here at Nishtar Park Sports Complex.

Dr Asif Tufail said that 1,500 athletes are taking part in the summer camps of 14 games such as Swimming, Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Self-Defence, Taekwondo, Wushu, Karate and Gymnastics. “Around 500 young male and female swimmers are being imparted training by Sports Board Punjab’s expert coaches in swimming summer camp,” he added.

Dr Asif Tufail said that swimming is one the most popular sports among the younger generation.

“We are quite upbeat that the swimming summer camp will help a lot in further nurturing the potential of young camp probables”.

He further said that young male and female swimmers are keenly taking part in Swimming Summer Camp. “The coaches have been advised to teach young swimmers about the basics of swimming during the camp training,” he informed.

He said that holding of Summer Camp is a valuable step of Sports Board Punjab and young swimmers must avail this golden opportunity and polish their skills under the guidance of qualified coaches.

Director Youth Affairs Syed Umair Hassan visited Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall and witnessed the summer camps of table tennis and badminton.

He appreciated the keen involvement of table tennis and badminton players and advised the SBP coaches to impart true professional training to young players.

Envoys call for promoting tourism in South Asia

ISLAMABAD, Jul 11 (APP): The envoys of Bangladesh and Nepal in Pakistan on Tuesday stressed the need for collective efforts to promote and develop the tourism sector of the South Asian region including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal for sustainable growth of their respective economies.

They also lauded the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) for organizing the International Tourism Summit 2023, which they said would also help in further promoting tourism in Northern areas of the country, said a press release.

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Pakistan Md. Ruhul Alam Siddique congratulated President ICCI for successfully organizing the “First ICCI Tourism Summit Skardu 2023”.

He said that the initiative provided an opportunity to see the natural beauty of the northern regions, and it would have a positive impact on the tourism industry of Pakistan.

There is a huge potential for tourism in the South Asia region, he said adding that all the neighbouring countries including Pakistan, Bangladesh need joint measures to attract tourists from other regions of the world.

Regarding the summit, Tapas Adhikari, Nepal’s ambassador to Pakistan, said that Pakistan has a rich tourism heritage which can create tremendous economic opportunities. He said the initiatives to expand the beautiful tourist destinations of Pakistan for economic activities and promote tourism are commendable.

President ICCI Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari thanked ambassadors for participating in the ICCI International Tourism Summit. He said that the ambassadors of Turkey, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Syria, Somalia, Kenya, Nepal, Iran and other countries also attended the summit and reviewed business opportunities.

He said that tourism is not only an industry that promotes economic growth and development but is a bridge to connect different cultures.

MNA Zahra Fatemi calls on PM

ISLAMABAD, July 11 (APP): Zahra Wadood Fatemi, a member of the National Assembly (MNA), on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

During the meeting, Zahra Faetmi lauded the prime minister for the launch of PM’s Initiative for Women Empowerment and provision of laptops, scholarships, interest free loans and the launch of entrepreneurship programmes for the talented youth of the country, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

She also apprised the prime minister of the issues during the entry tests to medical colleges (MDCAT) to which the prime minister directed the relevant authorities to immediately resolve the student’s issues in this regard.

Cars’ sale decreases by 58.65 % during FY 2023

ISLAMABAD, Jul 11 (APP): The sale of cars witnessed a decrease of 58.65 per cent during the fiscal year 2022-23 as compared to the sale of fiscal year 2021-22, the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA) on Tuesday said.

According to the data, as many as 96,812 cars were sold during July-June 2022-23 as opposed to 234,180 units during July-June 2021-22.

The breakup figures showed that 12,823 units of Honda Civic and City were sold during the corresponding period of the year 2022-23 as compared to the sale of 35,197 units last year, thus showing a dip of 63.56 per cent.

Toyota Corolla and Yaris cars sales also decreased by 66.67 per cent as it went down to 18,838 units from 56,528 units in the same period of the previous year.

However, Suzuki Swift’s sales went up by 50.87 per cent as sales increased to 9,339 units from 6,190 units last year.

Sale of Suzuki Cultus decreased to 6,956 units during the period under review, whereas during the same period last year, the sale was recorded at 23,169 units while the sale of Suzuki Wagon-R also decreased to 5,434 units from 23,131 units.

Suzuki Alto’s sales also witnessed a sharp decline of 50.30 per cent from 71,198 units to 35,379 units during the year under review, whereas the sale of Suzuki Bolan decreased to 4,447 units as opposed to the sale of 12,361 units in the same period of last year.

PM praises IB’s performance, role

ISLAMABAD, July 11 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday appreciated the performance and role of Intelligence Bureau (IB) in strengthening country’s solidarity, sovereignty and thwarting threats posed by the local and foreign elements.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with

IB Director General Fawad Asadullah Khan who presented a one-year performance report of the bureau, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The prime minister expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the IB and observed that it had played a very critical role in the national solidarity and safeguarding its sovereignty.

The prime minister said that he had tasked the IB with additional tasks after assuming his office and the bureau had achieved them successfully.

It also played an effective role in rooting out criminal activities and performed well in the anti-terrorism efforts, he said, adding the IB’s role was also excellent with regard to gleaning of timely information, leading to correct decisions.

He said the nation felt pride over the sacrifices of its Shuhada who embraced martyrdom for the security and defence of the country.

The prime minister lauded professional ability of DG IB and his efforts to further improve the bureau and also commended role and performance of IB officers and staff.  

The DG IB expressed his gratitude to the prime minister for reposing confidence in the IB and his support.

The IB has been the oldest and the prime civilian intelligence agency of Pakistan.
