Climber Asif Bhatti stranded at Nanga Parbat due to snow blindness

ISLAMABAD, Jul 03 (APP):Pakistan’s climber Asif Bhatti, who had proceeded for final summit push of the treacherous Nanga Parbat (8,126m) mountain was stranded with snow blindness, the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) said on Monday.

“Asif is stuck at camp 4 with snow blindness at altitude 7,500-metre to 8,000-metre. He needs help,” ACP Secretary Karrar Haidri told APP.

According to Haidri, a number of outfits were attempting the peak and some of their members had conveyed the message that Asif was suffering from snow blindness.

“A helicopter will be needed to pick him up but for that he will have to come down to around 6,000-metre to 6,500-metre,” he added.

Asif along with renowned Pakistani mountaineer Lt Col (R) Dr Jabbar Bhatti, Dr Naveed, Saad Muhammad and Faheem Pasha had departed for the expedition a few days back. “His other team members have not yet begun their final summit push,” Haidri said.

With a death probability of 21%, Nanga Parbat continues to claim its place among the top five most dangerous mountains in the world. Till now 85 of the climbers have died while attempting it.

Chinese Cultural Center to hold seminar on completion of 10 years of CPEC on July 5

PESHAWAR, Jul 02 (APP):An international seminar on the completion of 10 years of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will be held here on July 5 under the auspices of Chinese Cultural Center China Window.

Papers on the usefulness of CPEC will be presented in the seminar, being organized in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Investment Board and IM Sciences.

The seminar will have four sessions in which prominent personalities from different fields of life will express their views on the mega project of Pakistan-China friendship.

During the seminar, awards will also be given to the Pakistani and Chinese companies who have invested a lot in the CPEC projects, besides providing employment to a large number of people.

According to the organizers of China Window, it would the first and unique seminar of its kind in Peshawar, in which the speakers would express their views on CPEC on the completion of its 10 years, besides showing of videos of its various projects.

Marriyum grieved over demise of mother of senior journalist Khaleeq Kiani

ISLAMABAD, Jul 03 (APP):Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of the mother of senior journalist Khaleeq Kiani.

The minister, in a statement, expressed her heartfelt condolences to Khaleeq Kiani and his family.

Terming the mother’s death a great tragedy, Marriyum said she shared the grief of the bereaved family.

She prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
