ISLAMABAD, Jul 7 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar on Friday held crucial meeting with Ester Perez Luis, the country representative of International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In a significant development for Pakistan’s economic landscape, Ester Perez Luis, the International Monetary Fund’s resident representative, met with the finance team of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), including Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Commerce, and Saleem Mandviwala.

The meeting, held at minister’s enclave, was aimed at discussing the possibility of a standby agreement with Pakistan, which would have a profound impact on the nation’s financial stability, said a press release issued by Ministry of Commerce.

The PPP team expressed its willingness to support the IMF programme, citing larger national interests as the driving force behind their decision.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 07 (APP): A delegation of students from Cadet College Hasanabdal, accompanied by faculty members Friday paid a visit to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretariat.

The purpose of their visit was to receive a comprehensive briefing on the ECP’s initiatives and mechanisms for promoting transparent and inclusive elections, said a news release issued here.

The interactive session, chaired by Secretary ECP Omar Hamid Khan, provided the students with valuable insights into the role of the ECP and its significance in the democratic process.

Secretary ECP Omar Hamid Khan emphasized that the students held the potential to bring about positive change in the society.

He encouraged them to actively participate in the electoral process and shared his expertise by addressing their queries.

The session served as an excellent platform for the students to gain a deeper understanding of the ECP’s efforts in ensuring fair and transparent elections throughout Pakistan.

During the meeting, the students received comprehensive briefings on various key aspects, including electoral processes, the integration of technology in the electoral process, voter education, and initiatives aimed at fostering youth participation in elections.

The faculty members appreciated the ECP’s initiatives and suggested organizing youth voter awareness sessions at Cadet College Hasanabdal to further promote electoral awareness among the students.

In addition to the informative sessions, a mock-poll exercise was conducted to familiarize the youth with the entire polling process.

This practical activity aimed to enhance their understanding of the democratic process and their future roles as responsible citizens.

To acknowledge the participation and enthusiasm of the students, the secretary ECP presented certificates to all the participants and honored the faculty members of the cadet college with a shield.

BEIJING, July 7 (APP): Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai, Hussain Haider has invited Chinese businesses and enterprises to invest in Pakistan’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) industry, which was one of the most promising areas of bilateral cooperation, and to take benefits from a large and growing market and the incentives provided by the government.

Welcoming the participants at China-Pakistan New Energy Vehicle (Electric Vehicle) Industry Cooperation Seminar in Shanghai, he highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation in the NEV sector.

As part of the celebrations of the Decade of the CPEC and the efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation under BRI and CPEC, the Mission, in coordination with ICT Belt & Road Union Shanghai, organized the seminar.

During the seminar, the experts and representatives of companies in the NEV industry and government officials shared their insights on China’s systematic advantages in EV and potential and opportunities for bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in view of its large market and key needs.

Over 100 representatives from China and Pakistan in the new energy, technology, and transportation industries, industrial chain parts, manufacturers’ associations, and leading design and manufacturing enterprises, participated in the forum through on-site and video connections.

China Economic Net (CEN) adds: In her opening remarks, Zhao Baige, Vice Chair of the 12th NPC Foreign Affairs Committee of the People’s Republic of China, noted that new energy vehicle technology has become an essential track for the fourth industrial revolution.

She stated that the growth of the new energy vehicle industry requires supportive policies and production.

Zhao shared that China has been the world’s largest producer and seller of new energy vehicles for eight consecutive years, with sales increasing over a thousand-fold from less than 6,000 in 2011 to 6.887 million in 2022.

After over a decade of development, China has established policy systems to support the rapid development of new energy vehicles in areas like development planning, consumption subsidies, hedging policies, research investment, government procurement, and standard formulation.

Usman Ali, Manager (Policy), Engineering Development Board (EDB), Ministry of Industries & Production, Pakistan, presented on the incentives for electric vehicles in Pakistan under the Auto Industry Development & Export Policy (AIDEP).

He stated that the policy includes incentives for electric vehicles such as 2-3 wheelers, cars, SUVs, buses, trucks, etc.

To promote EV manufacturing in Pakistan, the import of charging infrastructure attracts a 0% customs duty, and there is a 1% custom duty on EV-specific parts. The government also subsidizes registration fees for electric vehicles in all provinces.

Usman noted that Chinese brands such as Chery, MG, BAIC, DFSK, Chang’an, GWM, FAW, Foton, and others are already operating in Pakistan and are popular among the masses.

China is leading the development of key technologies for electric vehicles, and Pakistan welcomes the investment of Chinese electric vehicle enterprises, as well as accelerating the roll-out of China-Pakistan new energy vehicle industry cooperation.

KARACHI, Jul 07 (APP): Pakistan’s Test team will leave for Sri Lanka tomorrow (July 08) to play two-match test series, which is Pakistan’s first assignment in the third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

The first match is scheduled to take place on July 16 at Galle International Cricket Stadium while the second Test will be held at Singhalese Sports Club in Colombo from July 24 to 28.

The test team has been engaged in the pre-series training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in from July 04.

Pakistan, ranked sixth in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings, previously toured Sri Lanka in July 2022 with the two-Test series drawn 1-1.

They played their last Test series against New Zealand at home from December 26, 2022 to January 6, 2023 with both matches drawn.

On July 09 Pakistan team will land in Colombo. To play the Warm-up game on July 11 and 12 and July 16-20– The first Test at Galle International Cricket Stadium 24-28 July – Second Test at Singhalese Sports Club, Colombo.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 07 (APP):The speakers at a training session have stressed the need for capacity building of provincial/area Education Management Information Systems (EMISs) and education managers on SDG-4 data collection, analysis, reporting and use for planning & monitoring besides collaboration among stakeholders for better use of education statistics.

The opening session was chaired by Salman Mufti, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and Zafar Malik, Head of Education, UNESCO here on the other day.

Dr. Muhammad Shahid Soroya, DG, Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) welcomed the participants and apprised them about various projects, initiatives and interventions implemented/initiated by PIE during the last few months including development of training manual for these workshops, providing technical input for SDG-4 Mid-Term review.

An exhaustive training needs assessment was conducted to assess the capacity of the provincial/ area EMIS teams and a customized training manual has been developed for knowledge/skills enhancement of the EMIS teams on the SDG-4 benchmarking, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

The workshop sensitized the education managers and policymakers on the SDG-4 data production and utilization through advocacy workshops.

Hands-on exercises, case-studies, and scenario exercises based on real-data were also conducted during the three days of the workshop.

The training was also imparted on producing education indicators from various sources including administrative data, household surveys, monitoring, censuses, etc.

The aspects of data quality, ethics, analysis and utilization were also discussed at length.

The closing session was chaired by Youssef Filali-Meknassi, Representative and Director UNESCO Islamabad.

He highlighted the importance of data especially after COVID-19 and Floods to identify the areas where the resources are needed the most.

He also stressed upon need of active collaboration among stakeholders for better produce and use education data/statistics.

Dr. Shahid Soroya in the concluding remarks shared the efforts made by stakeholders for producing quality data based on standardized methodologies and interpretation.

It was hoped that the skills and knowledge gained in the workshop would be applied by participants in their official work in producing quality data and its use in effective policy and planning.

It may be mentioned here that the federal government, by merging its two subordinate departments, established Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) as a premier entity of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to produce reliable and qualitative education statistics for guiding policy, planning, management, and monitoring at various administrative levels.

The PIE was established after emergence of two subordinate departments- Academy of Educational Planning and Management (AEPAM) and National Education Assessment System (NEAS).

The purpose to establish PIE was to overcome obstacles pertaining to availability of reliable and timely data in planning and policymaking especially in designing equity-based targeted interventions across Pakistan.

National and Provincial EMISs put the utmost efforts to produce quality education data for meeting the needs of policymakers, planners, and decision-makers, however, there were certain gaps in education data that hindered the policy and planning process.

In this backdrop, NEMIS-PIE and UNESCO collaborated to assess the gaps, needs, and challenges of stakeholders and data producing agencies in data production, analysis and ultimately its use for effective policy and planning purpose.
