Polish climber dies of altitude sickness after conquering Nanga Parbat
ISLAMABAD, Jul 03 (APP):Polish climber Pawel Tomasz Kopec has lost his life due to acute altitude sickness after conquering the treacherous Nanga Parbat (8,126m), the world’s ninth highest peak, the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) said on Monday.
“Kopec and his two other compatriots – Piotr Krzyzowski and Waldemar Kowalewski summited Nanga Parbat on Sunday.
“They achieved their target without supplemental oxygen at different times of the day. Krzyzowski and Kowalewski managed to reach camp 3 at midnight. Kopec faced problems while descending due to harsh weather conditions. Exhausted and dehydrated, he eventually lost his life at a height of 7,400 metres,” ACP Secretary Karrar Haidri told APP.
With a death probability of 21%, Nanga Parbat continues to claim its place among the top five most dangerous mountains in the world. Prior to Kopec, a total of 85 climbers died in their attempts to conquer it.
AJK PM reaffirms resolve to turn Azad Kashmir into welfare state in true sense
MIRPUR (AJK): Jul 03 (APP) ::Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq has reiterated his government’s firm resolve to turn the AJK into a welfare state in true sense.
Talking to different public delegations that called on him at his Bhimber residence to share Eid greetings, Anwaar said serving the people of the state without any discrimination was his ultimate objective.
The PM claimed that the budget presented by his government would go down as the best ever budget in the history of Azad Kashmir.
To ensure across the board accountability and eliminate corruption from the society, Anwaar said the Anti-Corruption Act would be implemented soon to root out the menace.
He said revolutionary measures were taken to bring further improvement in the health and education sectors.
“A new university is being established soon in Bhimber”, the PM said, adding that the government was keen to make Azad Jammu Kashmir a welfare state where people would have equal opportunities to prosper and flourish.
He said in a short span of time, his government had taken such measures which previous governments could not take during a period of 75 years. He said that good governance and transparency in institutions was now visible.
He said that all those found guilty of looting and plundering of the state resources or misusing authority would be held accountable.
For the welfare of the journalist community, the PM said the government would provide funds to the press foundation.He said that the discretionary powers of the Prime Minister had been abolished.
“The poor and the oppressed will get justice at their doorstep, the state will provide support for widows, disabled children, divorcees and homeless people in Azad Kashmir”, he said.
He said that the departments of cigarettes, forest and food were being closely watched.He said that accountability and transparency in these departments would help save billions of rupees.
Minister condoles killing of minor girl
HYDERABAD, Jul 03 (APP):Sindh Minister for Minorities Affairs Gianchand Israni on Monday condoled the demise of minor girl who was molested and brutally killed in a village of Tando and handed over cheque of Rs.500,000 to her heirs.
The minister assured the family that the culprits involved in this act of innocent Nisha Kolhi would be brought to the book.
He informed that the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari instructed him to visit the bereaved family.
Israni also assured the family that they would be provided protection from the criminals charged in FIR of Nisha whose dead body was found hanging from a tree on June 21 in village Qaim Babbur.
“It was an intolerable incident,” he observed.
The minister said the provincial government was taking all possible steps to ensure the well-being of the minorities.
“Sindh is a land of peace, harmony and love and no one can break this harmony through such brutal incidents,” he believed.
Pakistan’s total foreign reserves reach at $ 9.34 billion
KARACHI, Jul 03 (APP):The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan stood at US$ 9,340.8 million while reserves held by the central bank reached at US$ 4,069.9 million.
The State Bank of Pakistan, in a statement issued here on Monday, informed that foreign reserves of the central bank reserves increased by US$ 533 million to US$ 4,069.9 million as of June 23, 2023.
Meanwhile, net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at US$ 5,270.9 million, it added.
The rise in SBP’s foreign exchange reserves was mainly attributed to realisation of US$ 300 million proceeds of GoP commercial loan, it added.
According to SBP spokesperson the central bank had received US$ 300 million proceeds of GoP commercial loan during the previous week but those inflows were incorporated in the latest reserves position report as of June 23, 2023.
In the previous week ending on June 16, 2023, total liquid foreign reserves hold by the country was US$ 8,863.8 million.
Among them foreign reserves held by the central bank were US$ 3,536.9 million while net foreign reserves held by
commercial banks were US$ 5,326.9 million.
