Rupee sheds Rs1.13 against US Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):Pakistani Rupee on Friday witnessed Rs 1.13 devaluation against the US Dollar in the interbank trading as it closed at Rs277.59 against the previous day’s closing of Rs276.46.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of dollars in the open market stood at Rs280 and Rs283 respectively.

The price of the Euro increased by Rs3.18 to close at Rs 311.73 against the last day’s closing of Rs308.55, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen went up by 01 paisa to close at Rs2, whereas an increase of Rs3.65 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs364.19 as compared to its last day’s closing of Rs360.54.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal increased by 28 paisa and 29 paisa to close at Rs75.57 and Rs73.98, respectively.

LG by-poll on vacant seats on August 27 in KP

PESHAWAR, Jul 14 (APP):The provincial Election Commission said on Friday that the local government by-poll on vacant seats of various categories in Village and Neighborhood Councils in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be held on August 27 and public notices had been issued by the Returning officers.

According to the office of the provincial Elections Commissioner, the candidates can submit their nomination papers from 17 to 19 July.

The list of candidates who submitted nomination papers would be released on July 20, while the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held from July 21 to 24.

The appeals against acceptance and rejection of papers could be filed from July 25 to July 26 and the decision on these appeals would be made by August 1.

The revised list of candidates would be made public on August 2 and candidates would be able to withdraw their nomination papers till August 3.
The final list of candidates would be issued 0n August 4 and election symbols would be allotted on the same day.

According to the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the promotion and transfer of government employees in these districts is banned.

The public representatives including the Prime Minister, Speakers and Deputy Speakers of National and Provincial Assemblies, federal and provincial ministers would be prohibited from visiting these councils and announcing development projects till the elections.

HEC asks students, parents to check recognition of institution before taking admission

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has urged students to ensure the accreditation of professional degree programmes and the recognition of admitting university/sub-campus from HEC before taking admission.

According to HEC, the professional degree programmes include Engineering, Medicine & Dentistry, Veterinary Education, Nursing, Architecture and Town Planning, Pharmacy, Law, Homoeopathy, Tibb, Agriculture, Business, Computing, Teacher Education, and Technology.

The programmes required accreditation from the respective professional councils, it said.

To verify the accreditation status of your desired programme, HEC asked students to reach out to the concerned professional councils’ website hec.gov.pk/site/accredita.

The commission further added that for professional and non-professional programmes, it was equally essential to ensure that the admitting university or sub-campus was recognised by the HEC.

The HEC also asked the students to check the recognition status, visit: hec.gov.pk/site/HEls.

Problem-solving includes three main parts includes identifying the problem, analyzing possible solutions, and deciding on the best course of action, according to an NPO document.

Problem-solving skills must be turned into opportunities by identifying and responding to challenges in a way that adds value and creates growth. It takes persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to take calculated risks to turn problem-solving skills into opportunities, it added.

The objective of the training includes understand relationships, implement the changes, improvements needed to compete and survive in a continually changing environment.

The webinar has been designed for senior management, middle management, team leaders and supervisors.

Algeria, Pakistan to continue collaboration in fields benefited to both nations: Envoy

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):Ambassador of Algeria to Pakistan Dr. Brahim Romani while speaking about the enduring solidarity and continuous cooperation between Algeria and Pakistan, said that both nations were sharing a long and rich history of collaboration in various fields, particularly in investment, trade and scientific endeavors.

Speaking at the establishment ceremony of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution here Friday, The Ambassador expressed his anticipation for the upcoming celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Pakistan in October 2023. He regarded this milestone as a significant step towards the further development and enhancement of bilateral relations in multiple areas, benefitting both countries.
He highlighted Pakistan’s early recognition of the interim government of the Algerian Revolution, declared on September 19, 1958. Pakistan took swift action by opening a representative office in Karachi at that time, he said and added, Pakistan played a crucial role by granting diplomatic passports to several leaders of the revolution, including Mr. Ahmed Ben Bella, who later served as the first President of the Algerian Republic from 1962 to 1965, following the regaining of independence.

The Ambassador praised Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Algerian Revolution in international forums such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement since their establishment in 1955 in Bandung, Indonesia.
Pakistan’s commitment to the cause was evident through its participation in the founding General Assembly of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution, represented by the esteemed Dr. Eqbal Ahmad. Dr. Ahmad, known for his intellectual contributions as a thinker, researcher, journalist, poet, and advocate of the Algerian Revolution, had close connections with leaders of the Algerian revolution during his stay in Tunisia from 1962 to 1964, he expressed.
“Dr. Eqbal Ahmad, a prominent figure in political, academic, media and literary circles, was known for his principled writings and honorable stances in defense of just causes worldwide. His support extended to issues such as Palestine, the fight against the apartheid regime in South Africa, and opposition to the Vietnam War”.
Though Dr. Eqbal Ahmad passed away in Islamabad in 1999, his family member, Professor Pervez Amirali Hoodbhoy, a distinguished nuclear physicist, represented him at the founding assembly of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution. Professor Hoodbhoy received an award on behalf of Dr. Ahmad from the Ministry of Mujahideen Affairs of Algeria.

Dr. Romani took the opportunity to acknowledge and honor all those who fought, sacrificed, and provided solidarity and support to the great Algerian Revolution of 1954-1962 in various forms, including political struggle, armed resistance, financial aid, civil service, freedom of speech in media and information, literature, art, associative and party solidarity, as well as diplomatic support in regional and international forums.

In a momentous event held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria officially established the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution on July 3rd, coinciding with the celebration of the 61st anniversary of the nation’s glorious regaining of national independence.

The ceremony witnessed the participation of numerous friends of the Algerian Revolution and their representatives from 31 countries spanning Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

During the inaugural ceremony of the founding General Assembly of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution, a speech was delivered on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf.

The speech conveyed Algeria’s recognition and appreciation for the friends of the Algerian Revolution, acknowledging their invaluable contributions in supporting Algeria’s liberation.
Attaf emphasized their renowned sacrifices for the triumph of freedom and peace values globally, highlighting the significance of preserving and enhancing the national memory, which holds special importance to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Ahmed Attaf, the Foreign Minister, reaffirmed Algeria’s support for just causes worldwide, particularly expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the issue of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa.

He concluded his speech by commending the noble objectives of the association and the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support and assist in implementing its program of activities.

The International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution appointed former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, as its honorary president, and former Algerian Ambassador, Mr. Nourredine Djoudi, as its president.

The association’s executive office comprises representatives from various regions, including the United States, Italy, Venezuela, Mauritania, Vietnam, Chile, Algeria, and Angola.

The International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution welcomes and embraces many other supporters of the Algerian Revolution worldwide, including personalities from Pakistan. While it was not possible to include all of them in the founding meeting due to time constraints, the association’s doors remain open for their participation.
The association aims to serve as an organization that promotes awareness of the historical legacy of friends of the Algerian Revolution across the globe.
It seeks to provide a platform for expressing revolutionary culture, defending freedom and peace values for all peoples and nations, and reflecting the principles of humanity, diversity, multilateralism, understanding, and tolerance, in line with international norms and agreements

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):The production of farm tractors in the country witnessed a decrease of 46.11 percent to 31,726 units during the fiscal year 2022-23, against the production of 58,880 units during the last year 2021-22.

During July-June 2022-23, the production of trucks also witnessed decreasing trend as it went down from 5,659 units as compared to 3,072 units, showing a decline of 45.71 percent, according to Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA) revealed.

Production of pickups, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCVs) and Jeeps also dipped by 19.58 percent to 31,333 units during the period under review from 44,421 units during fiscal year 2021-22.

However, the production of buses witnessed an increase of 6.05 percent from 661 units to 701 units during fiscal year 2023, the PAMA added.

Meanwhile, the production of passenger cars also declined to 101,984 units against the production of 226,433 units during July-June 2021-22, the data revealed.

The manufacturing of motorcycles and three wheelers in the country plunged to 1,188,087 units from 1,826,467, showing decrease of 34.95 percent, it added.

Weekly inflation up by 0.33 pc

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):The weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), witnessed an increase of 0.33 per cent for the combined consumption group during the week ended on July 13, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday.

The SPI for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 258.63 points as compared to 257.79 points during the past week, according to the PBS data.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 28.96 per cent.

The weekly SPI with the base year 2015-16 =100 is covering 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

The SPI for the lowest consumption group up to Rs 17,732, increased by 0.51 per cent and went up to 267.24 points from last week’s 265.88 points.

The SPI for consumption groups from Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175; and above Rs 44,175 witnessed an increase of 0.50 per cent, 0.46 per cent, 0.41 per cent and 0.21 per cent respectively.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 21 (41.17%) items increased, 11 (21.58%) items decreased and 19 (37.25%) items remained stable.

The items, which recorded a decrease in their average prices on a week-on-week (WoW), included bananas (12.18%), tomatoes (6.35%), onions (5.32%), LPG (2.17%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (0.85%), pulse moong (0.70%), cooking oil 5 litre (0.51%), pulse gram (0.46%), vegetable ghee 1 kg (0.36%), pulse masoor (0.18%) and chicken (0.13%).

The items that recorded an increase in their average prices on a week-on-week (wow) basis, included sugar (5.22%), wheat flour (4.23%), gur (3.68%), salt powdered (2.17%) and eggs (1.34%).

The commodities that witnessed a decrease in price on a Year-on-Year (YOY) basis, included onions (28.17%), electricity for q1 (14.58%), pulse masoor (7.54%), diesel (5.82%), LPG (1.23%) and vegetable ghee 1 kg (1.16%).

On a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, the commodities which recorded an increase in their average prices included wheat flour (129.84%), cigarettes (111.74%), gas charges for q1 (108.38%), tea packet (101.56%), rice basmati broken (76.74%), rice irri-6/9 (73.88%), potatoes (61.67%), gents sponge chappal (58.05%), sugar (57.91%), chicken (56.06%), salt powdered (53.49%), gur (48.30%) and bread (46.86%).

Alvi felicitates Macron on national day of France

ISLAMABAD, July 14 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday extended warmest felicitations to President of France Emmanuel Macron on his country’s national day.

In his letter to President Macron, Alvi wrote that Pakistan and France enjoyed cordial relations marked by mutual trust, commonality of views, and close cooperation in multilateral fora.

Referring to the Roadmap for Bilateral Cooperation signed in February this year, the president said it would help strengthen the multifaceted cooperation in areas such as trade, people-to-people contacts, education, climate change, and energy transition. 

The president expressed confidence that under President Macron’s dynamic leadership, France would take the bilateral relationship with Pakistan to a higher level for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

“I avail myself of this opportunity to convey my best wishes for your good health and happiness, and continued progress and prosperity of the people of the French Republic”, President Alvi concluded.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):The funeral prayers of all, the shuhada, who embraced, shahadat, on Thursday while valiantly thwarting a full-scale terrorists attack on Zhob Garrison and during an intense exchange of fire with hardcore terrorists in Sui were offered at their native towns on Friday with full military honours.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the burial ceremonies were attended by serving and retired officers, soldiers, relatives and a large number of people from different segments of society.

“Armed Forces of Pakistan stand resolute and committed to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the motherland at all costs,” the ISPR said.

Mangla dam swells as water level rises to 1201.60 feet

Mirpur, Jul 14 (APP):Water level in Mangla Dam was constantly rising rapidly but with a stipulated normal pace, official sources told on Friday.

According to the sources, the water level in Mangla dam was reported as 1201.60 feet, with live storage of 4.433 MAF against maximum conservation level 1242 feet.

The inflows of Jhelum River at Mangla reservoir was reported as 59500 cusecs with the outflows of 10000 cusecs of water from the reservoir on Friday, the sources said.

The overall position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages in the country remained as under:-

In River Indus at Tarbela, the inflow was 143300 cusecs and outflow was 150000 cusecs, the inflow and outflow in River Kabul at Nowshera was 37200 and 37200 cusecs and at Khairabad Bridge 153400 cusecs and 153400 cusecs respectively, in River Jhelum at Mangla, the inflows and outflow remained 59500 and 10000 cusecs respectively, in River Chenab at Marala, the inflows was 66400 cusecs and the outflows 38300 cusecs.

Similarly, at Jinnah Barrage, the inflow and outflow was 172200 and 164700 cusecs respectively, at Chashma, the inflow was 172000 cusecs and the outflow remained 190000 cusecs, at Taunsa, the inflow and outflow was 211300 cusecs and 191800 cusecs respectively and at Guddu, these were 197400 and 157300 cusecs, respectively. At Sukkur Barrage, the inflow and outflow was 143200 and 87800 cusecs respectively, while at Kotri Barrage, both inflows and outflows were 65900 and 24200 cusecs, respectively. At Trimmu Barrage, the inflow was 70600 cusecs and the outflow was 57300 cusecs and at Panjnad Barrage, the inflows and outflows were 30100 and 15200 cusecs respectively.

At various reservoirs, the level and storage position was as under;

Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1402 feet, present level 1517.02 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 4.004 MAF.

Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1201.60 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 4.433 MAF.

Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 644.70 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage Friday 0.117 MAF.

The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela, Jinnah and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m on Friday. APP / AHR.
