Ukrainian Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan on July 20-21

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba will undertake an official visit to Pakistan on July 20-21, a spokesperson of the ministry of foreign affairs said on Wednesday.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Kuleba will call on the Prime Minister and hold detailed talks with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Pakistan and Ukraine enjoy close and cordial relations particularly in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture and higher education.

Foreign Minister Kuleba’s visit is the first ever Ministerial visit from Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Ukraine in 1993.

It is expected to contribute to further strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries.

PM, MQM hold discussion on formation of caretaker governments

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):A delegation of Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led by the Convenor Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here on Wednesday and discussed in detail the matter of formation of caretaker governments besides overall current political situation in the country.

Federal Minister for Information Technology Syed Amin ul Haque, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, Dr Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal were also part of the delegation.

Minister for Railways and Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique and Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq were present in the meeting.

The meeting was held in connection with the prime minister’s consultations with the allies with respect to formation of the caretaker governments. During the meeting matter of recent population census also came under discussion.

The delegation paid tributes to the prime minister on personally monitoring the federal government’s ongoing projects in Karachi and ensuring speedy work on these projects on priority basis.

The MQM delegation also praised PM Shehbaz Sharif and his economic team’s efforts for completing the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Water level recedes in Nullah Lai after reaching dangerous level

RAWALPINDI, Jul 19 (APP):Water level in Nullah Lai receded here on Wednesday to five feet at Kattarian and Gawalmandi after Tuesday night’s heavy rainfall and reaching dangerous level.

According to a district administration spokesman, rainfall gauging stations recorded 195 mm at Shamsabad, 51mm at Saidpur Village, 112mm at Golra, 145mm at Bokra, 105mm at PMD, and 91mm at Chakala since last night.


He informed that the situation was declared all clear at 12.42 pm as water level in Nullah Lai which had reached its dangerous level receded to 5 feet at Kattarian and Gawalmandi.


The Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and DC visited different areas and reviewed the water level in Nullah Lai.
He said that all the departments concerned were present in the field to cope with any untoward situation.
The teams of WASA and MCR were working in the field to clear rain water, he added.


Pre alert is issued at 11.4 feet at Kattarian and 8.3 feet at Gawalmandi, he informed.


He said that 14.1 feet water level at Gawalmandi was recorded in Nullah Lai and 11.4 feet at Kattarian at 11.30 am.


Water level in Nullah Lai at Kattarian was 19 feet and 18 feet at Gawalmandi at 08.23 am, he informed.
The administration had started evacuation from Kattarian and Gawalmandi, he said adding, Rescue-1122, PDMA, WASA teams were in the field with all equipment.


WASA teams were busy to drain out rainwater from Sadiqabad, Committee Chowk and other low-lying areas of the city, he said.


The Commissioner and DC urged the people not to stand on the banks of Nullahs and follow instructions given by the flood control room.

PES, Rescue-1122 put on high alert to cope with possible flood

RAWALPINDI, Jul 19 (APP):Punjab Emergency Service (PES), Rescue-1122, which is fully equipped to cope with the possible flood in Nullah Lai and other Nullahs of the town, has been put on high alert to cope with emergencies.

According to a Rescue-1122 spokesman, following heavy rain on Tuesday night, special arrangements were made to ensure safety of the citizens.


The rescuers deployed in low-lying areas particularly in Katarian, Gawalmandi, Sowan and other low-lying areas were on high alert to provide timely emergency response, medical treatment and transportation facilities to possible flood victims.


The Rescue-1122 had also requested the citizens not to stand on the banks in low-lying areas along Nullah Lai during flood and follow instructions given by the flood control room.


He urged the citizens to adopt all possible precautionary measures and remain very careful during monsoon rains.


The parents should never let their children near drains and electric poles, he said and advised the citizens to drive carefully at low speed during rain and do not go under weak and vulnerable roofs during monsoon season.
In case of any emergency, report immediately on Rescue Helpline 1122, he added.


According to a district administration spokesman, all the departments concerned had also completed all the arrangements to cope with the flood situation.


On the directives of the Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatha, WASA had completed cleanliness work of Nullahs particularly Nullah Lai before start of Monsoon rains, he added.


He informed that the Agency on the directives of the Commissioner had also completed a special campaign to clean sewerage lines using winch machines to fully clean the lines.


All the arrangements had been made following Meteorological Department’s warning of above normal rains during Monsoon, he said and informed that WASA had also completed an emergency operation to clean sewerage lines with the help of modern winch machines which were introduced to fully clean the sewer lines.


The spokesman informed that Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatta and Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema had also reviewed all the arrangements made for Monsoon.


Section-144 was imposed around Nulla Lai and strict action was being taken against those found dumping garbage and solid waste in Nullah Lai in violation of orders of the district administration, he added.


He further said that WASA had finalized the Monsoon 2023 plan like every year which included cleaning of sewerage lines, annual cleaning of Nullah Lai as well as inspection of WASA machinery.

Pakistan’s youth always excelled whenever given opportunities: PM

ISLAMABAD, July 19 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said the country’s youth always proved their mettle at the international level whenever provided the right opportunities.

In a tweet, he mentioned his yesterday’s launch of a youth sports initiative programme aimed at converging the energies of youth towards a positive direction.

PM Sharif expressed confidence that youth would excel under the patronage of the Prime Minister’s Youth Sports Initiative.

He pointed out the lack of facilities for sportsmen in the country to compete in the games at the international level. The programme would promote sports across the country through the training of talented youth, he added.

The prime minister hoped that future governments would ensure the continuity of the programme in the best interest of the youth.

Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday launched multiple initiatives for promoting sports culture and welfare of the sports persons including the Rs 5 billion Pakistan Sports Endowment Fund with seed money of Rs 5 billion. The other initiatives include the soft launch of the first dedicated Sports University, the Elite Sportspersons Development Programme and the e-sports development programme.

PHC seeks details of cases against PTI leader from DC Kohat

PESHAWAR, Jul 19 (APP):A two-member bench of Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday directed Deputy Commissioner Kohat to submit details of cases registered against PTI leader Shehryar Afridi till July 26.

The bench comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Ijaz Anwar during a hearing on the application filed by the counsel of former federal minister Shehryar Afridi asked the DC, why Afridi was nominated in MPO case since he was in jail for the last 46 days.

The bench asked the DC to submit his reply and details of the cases against the petitioner at the next hearing.

Shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Jul 19 (APP): PQA shipping activity was recorded at the port where five ships namely, Maersk Kinloss, MSC Greenwich, Bum Shin, Chai and Milaha Ras Laffan, carrying Container, Palm oil, Gas oil and LNG, berthed at Qasim International Container Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Pakistan Gas Port Terminal respectively on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, four more ships, Gas-Chem War-now, JBU Opal, NV-Minerva and Gas Zeus also arrived at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

A total of 07 ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them two ships, Rong Hia Wan and Duyen Hai-1 are expected to sail on Wednesday.

The cargo throughput of 154,210 tonnes, comprising 131,100 tones imports Cargo and 23,110 tonnes export cargo, including containerized cargo carried in 4,870 Containers (3,600 TEUs Imports and 1,270 TEUs export) was handled at the port during the last 24 hours.

There are 07 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them two ships, Gas-Chem War-Now and Gas Zeus & another ship, Maersk Pelepas carrying Chemicals, LPG and Container are expected to take berths at Engro Vopak Terminal, Sui Southern Gas Terminal and Container Terminal respectively on 19th July, while two more container ships, CMA CGM Ivanhoe and MSC Tia-II are due to arrive at Port Qasim on Thursday.

Over 14,000 security personnel to safeguard gatherings during Muharram

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):The Capital police have made security plan for the upcoming processions and religious gatherings during holy month of Muharram and a total of 14,000 security personnel would be deployed to safeguard faithfuls in the city.

Under the special directives of Islamabad Capital Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the police had finalized the plan for holy month, a police spokesman said.

The plan received formal approval after a thorough review, and all wings of the police had been instructed to ensure seamless coordination to ensure the success of the plan, he added.

DIG (Operations) Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari directed all relevant officials to maintain close communication with peace committees and organizers of Majalis and processions.

He directed to ensure cooperation with the police and law enforcement officials to facilitate smooth security operations.

The federal capital is set to witness a total of 181 religious gatherings (Majalis) and 965 processions during the holy month.

The DIG issued strict orders for enhanced security arrangements during the religious gatherings, including thorough checks of participants.

Walk-through gates are to be installed at the entrance points of Majalis to ensure efficient screening.

Metal detectors will be utilized to thoroughly screen participants at Majalis and processions.

The police, along with peace committees, are to exercise strict vigilance to ensure effective security measures.

In addition to the Police, Rangers and FC would provide assistance to ensure elaborate security arrangements.

The DIG has instructed all Zonal DPOs, SDPOs, and officers in charge of police stations to arrange proper lighting in coordination with relevant authorities and clear bushes near the places of worship.

To maintain order and safety, the processions will strictly adhere to predetermined routes and timings, and effective patrolling, including the use of commando vehicles, will be implemented.

The CPO emphasized the significance of close coordination among all wings of the police.

The traffic staff is directed to ensure arrangements that avoid any inconvenience to road users, and special deployments will facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during alternate routes when processions take place.

Parking lots will be situated at a considerable distance from the processions, with proper security arrangements and the use of metal detectors at entry and exit points to enhance safety measures.

Kashmiris linked future with Pakistan on July 19, 1947: APHC leaders

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):All Parties Hurriyat leader and organizations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir(IIOJK) describing July 19 as an important day in the history of Kashmir have said that in 1947, the people of Jammu and Kashmir had decided to accede to Pakistan even before the partition of the Indian sub-continent.

According to the Kashmir media service, the genuine representatives of the Kashmiris had unanimously passed the resolution of Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan on this day in 1947 during a meeting of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Abi Guzar area of Srinagar.

The APHC leaders including Vice Chairman, Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar, Abdul Ahad Parra, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Yasin Attai, Khadim Hussain, Maulana Sibte Shabbir Qummi, Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal, Abdus Samad Inqilabi, Dr Musaib, Aaqib Wani, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Youth Forum, Jammu and Kashmir Justice League Forum, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement, Wareseen–e-Shuhada, Nawjawanan-e-Hurriyat, Itehaad-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Pir Panjal Movement in their statements said that the decision of 19th July 1947 was a testimony to the fact that the people of Kashmir had linked their future with Pakistan.

They urged the United Nations Secretary General to take cognizance of the war crimes being perpetrated by Indian troops in the internationally recognized disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir and help resolve the Kashmir dispute as per the Kashmiris’ aspirations and the relevant UN resolutions.

The APHC leaders and organizations said the people of Kashmir, expressing their love for Pakistan every year observe July 19 as Accession to Pakistan Day. They said that it was on this historic day when the Kashmiri leadership unanimously decided to link their future with Pakistan. They said that this important decision was taken by the Kashmiri leadership even before the establishment of Pakistan.
