RAWALPINDI, Jul 12 (APP): Five more soldiers embraced martyrdom who got critically injured during clearance after heavily armed terrorists attacked Zhob Garrison in Northern Balochistan on Wednesday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the clearance operation underway at Zhob Cantt was completed.

In total five terrorists were sent to hell during the operation.

However, five soldiers who while fighting gallantly got critically injured earlier succumbed to injuries and embraced shahadat taking the figure to a total of nine, shaheeds, (martyrs).

The Security Forces and the nation remain resilient and determined to thwart all such dastardly attempts of the enemy aimed at destroying the peace of Balochistan and Pakistan, the ISPR said.

Pakistan, speaking for OIC, accuses West of 'lip service' to their pledge to fight hatred

GENEVA, Jul 12 (APP): Pakistan, speaking on behalf of the OIC, has accused the West of paying “lip service” to their commitment to prevent religious hatred, after the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on Wednesday condemning recent incidents in which the Holy Quran was burnt.

“The opposition of a few in the room has emanated from their unwillingness to condemn the public desecration of the Holy Quran or any other religious book,” Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN offices in Geneva, said after the 47-member Council took action on the resolution by a vote was 28 in favour, to 12 against, with 7 abstentions.

The resolution was strongly opposed by the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom, who say it conflicts with their view on human rights and freedom of expression.

Delivering OIC’s reaction, Ambassador Hashmi, who piloted the resolution, said, “They lack the political, legal and moral courage to condemn this act, and it was the minimum that the council could have expected from them.

“Countries that voted against the resolution have sent a message to Muslims and people of other faiths that their commitment to preventing religious hatred is limited to lip service.”

Countries that voted in favour of the resolution included, Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cameroon, China, Ivory Coast, Cuba, Eritrea, Gabon, Gambia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Belgium, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Romania, the UK, and the US voted against the resolution.

Dealing with the West’s misgivings about the resolution, Ambassador Hashmi said, “It does not seek to curtail the right to free speech. It aims at striking a prudent balance between the exercise of this right with special duties and responsibilities … Regrettably, some states have tried to shy away from their responsibilities to combat the scourge of religious hatred.”

The text, he said, was balanced, thematic and solution-oriented.

“Contrary to the approach pursued by some countries including those which opposed the present resolution, of maligning and targeting countries, the text does not target any country. It aims to address a systemic human rights impact of the absence of prevention, legal deterrence and deliberate,” Ambassador Hashmi added.

President calls upon int’l community to ensure peaceful resolution of J&K dispute

ISLAMABAD, July 12 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi has urged the international community, especially the international human rights organizations and the United Nations’ human rights machinery, to take cognizance of the dire human rights and humanitarian situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He called upon these global bodies to ensure a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.

In a message on 92nd Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Kashmir (Kashmir Martyrs’ Day) being observed on July 13, the president said that on this solemn occasion, he paid homage to the 22 Kashmiri martyrs, who rendered the ultimate sacrifice while braving the indiscriminate firing by the Dogra forces in 1931.

He further said that as they honoured the invaluable sacrifices of the heroes of 1931 as well as all innocent Kashmiris who had laid down their lives in their this just struggle, they once again urged India to immediately halt repression in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), cease all human rights violations, release all political prisoners, lift the military siege, stop its attempts to change the demographic structure of the occupied territory, and let the Kashmiri people exercise their legitimate right to self-determination.

On this somber day, he said, the people of Pakistan joined their Kashmiri brethren in commemorating the sacrifice of the Martyrs of 1931.

Regrettably, the president noted that Kashmiris were still struggling against India’s illegal occupation.

Even today, over 900,000-strong Indian occupation forces continued to hold the Kashmiri people hostage to perpetuate their wrongful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.

The president said India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 were yet another attempt to strip the Kashmiri people of their distinct identity and turn them into a minority in their own land.

“Subsequent to these measures, hurting the sentiments of the Kashmiris, India scrapped the regional public holiday on Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, which had been observed every year since 1948. India also discontinued the traditional Guard of Honor ceremony at the Martyrs’ Graveyard.”
