Departments asked to hold flood damage assessment, gather accurate data

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP): Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik on Monday instructed relevant departments to carryout flood damage assessment and gather accurate data.

The Chairman NDMA presided Special National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) session with key stakeholders on the current monsoon situation. The session was attended by representatives of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Federal Flood Commission (FFC), Provincial, State and Gilgit Baltistan disaster management authorities (PDMAs, SDMA, GBDMA respectively), Federal Flood Division (FFD), Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARO), Tarbela and Mangla Dam Management, a news release said.

The Chairman NDMA reviewed the situation of damages caused by the recent spell, the situation of major Dams and the regulation of river flows during the ongoing monsoon spell.

The PMD briefed about the rainfall observed in the areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Balochistan and Kashmir. They also informed about the expected rainfall in the Northern parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa
(Malakand Division) and in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) from July 31 to August 6.

The PDMAs briefed about the current situation in the respective provinces and highlighted the rescue and relief work carried out during the recent spell.

The FFD reported that no high flood situation is expected in any major rivers in the coming week. However, a fresh spell of moderate intensity with heavy rainfall at scattered places is expected from August 5 to 7.

The Mangla and Tarbela Dam management briefed that the dams were filled at 85% and 86% of their capacity respectively.

The Chairman NDMA also instructed PDMAs, GBDMA and SDMA to conduct mock exercises and increase awareness among the masses about the remedial measures to be taken during the season and to monitor the changing situation vigilantly.

Gold rates decrease by Rs 2,500 to Rs222,200 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs 2,500 and was sold at Rs.222,200 on Monday compared to its sale at Rs 224,700 on the previous trading day.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs.2,143 to Rs.190,501 from Rs. 192,644 whereas 10 gram 22 karat gold was sold at Rs.174,626, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of per tola silver increased by Rs.50 to Rs2,800 whereas that of ten gram silver went up by Rs.42.86 to 2,400.54.

The price of gold in the international market decreased by $16 to $1,959 from $1,975, the association reported.

PSX witnesses bullish trend, gains 957 points

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bullish trend on Monday, gaining 957.60 points, a positive change of 2.03 percent, closing at 48,034.60 points against 47,077.00 points the previous trading day.

A total of 491,874,957 shares were traded during the day as compared to 455,106,081 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 17.884 billion against Rs 17.879 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 358 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 188 of them recorded gains and 144 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 26 companies remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were WorldCall Telecom with 49,335,324 shares at Rs 1.36 per share; K-Electric Ltd with 39,447,916 shares at Rs.2.42 per share and Cynergyico Pk with 32,410,155 shares at Rs 3.48 per share.

Unilever Foods witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 1,050.00 per share price, closing at Rs 23,850.00 whereas the runner-up was Nestle Pakistan with an Rs 60.00 rise in its per share price to Rs 6,950.00.

Sanofi-Aventis witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 30.40 per share closing at Rs 720.00, followed by Pak Services with Rs 24.79 decline to close at Rs 725.21.

PM directs to observe CPEC celebrations with solemnity

ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed for a solemn observance of 10th anniversary of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in view of yesterday’s terrorist incident at Khar, Bajaur which claimed 44 lives and injuries to over 200 others.

Under the prime minister’s directive, a cultural show to celebrate the completion of a decade of CPEC was canceled, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release on Monday.

The event will be held in a sombre manner without any cultural show on the visit of Chinese Vice Premier and President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative He Lifeng to Pakistan.

The prime minister observed that the nation was in a state of mourning so such show should not be held.

On Sunday, about 44 people embraced shahadat and more than 200 others received injuries in a terrorist attack that took place in a workers’ convention of  Jammiat e Ulema Islam (JUI)-F in Khar, Bajaur district.
