Trade Organization (Amendment), Trade Dispute Resolution bills smoothly sail through Joint Sitting

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP): The Joint Sitting of the Parliament on Monday passed two bills including the Trade Organization (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Trade Dispute Resolution Bill, 2023 with certain amendments.

Both the bills were piloted by Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar in the House.
The minister moved amendments which were accepted by the House.

Moving the Trade Organization (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the House, Syed Naveed Qamar said that the bill aimed at extending the tenure of chambers of commerce and Industry and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry from one year to two year.

The bill would streamline elections process for the Chambers and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, he said. He said now the elections would be held in same year.

The Trade Dispute Resolution Bill, 2023 provides for the establishment of a comprehensive regime in Pakistan for the swift and effective resolution of disputes relating to the export and import of goods and services including through E-Commerce.

The statement of objects and reasons of the Trade Dispute Resolution Bill, 2023 says that as Pakistan embarks upon trade liberalization and expansion so does the probability of the trade dispute arise between trading parties.

If left unsupervised and unguided, such disputes could lead to serious conflicts between governments in addition to damaging private sector business interests.

In absence of proper Trade Dispute Resolution Mechanism in Pakistan is adversely affecting its ranking in ease of doing business. In order to overcomes this, a dedicated government body, legally mandate to resolve international trade dispute was approved by the Cabinet of Pakistan under the Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF).

Trade Dispute Resolution Organization has been established as an attached department of Ministry of Commerce. It is platform which helps to prevent the detrimental effects of unresolved international trade conflicts and to mitigate the imbalance between stronger and weaker players by having their dispute settled on the basis of rules.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced a Rs 1 million reward for a student who topped the Secondary School Examination from Gujranwala Board, besides announcing a monthly stipend of Rs 30,000.

The prime minister made the announcement as Jamshed Ali, the SSC topper met the prime minister along with his mother, teacher Waheed Ashraf and Chairman of the Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Naveed Haider Sherazi.

Minister for Federal Education and Training Rana Tanveer Hussain also attended the meeting.

The prime minister appreciated the student for his excellent performance and announced Rs 1 million reward for his encouragement.

The prime minister instructed that the government should bear all of the educational expenditures of Jamshed Ali till his master’s degree.

He sought a commitment from the student to keep up showing excellence in his educational career ahead.

“The bright students like you are the pride of the nation. The credit for your success goes to the hard work of your parents as well as teachers. You are also a role model for other students of the country,” the prime minister remarked.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP): The Joint Sitting of the Parliament Monday offered Fateha for victims of yesterday’s train accident in Nawabshah, a police official martyred in an attack in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and children drown at Turbat.

Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali led the Fateha at request of the Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

PKLI University to serve as a hub of knowledge creation, innovation: PM

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) University, which he broke ground for a day earlier, would serve as a hub of knowledge creation, research and innovation to aid the Institute.

“Yesterday was a day of immense satisfaction for me. Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center, which was conceived in 2015 to be John Hopkins of Pakistan, achieved a milestone. I laid the foundation-stone of PKLI University to serve as a hub of knowledge creation, research and innovation to aid PKLI,” the prime minister wrote on a social media platform.

He said a comprehensive nationwide program for the elimination of Hepatitis C was also resumed on Sunday under which filter clinics would be established across the country, for which the federal government had allocated Rs. 35 billion.

Additionally, he said, an endowment fund of Rs. 15 billion has also been set up whose proceeds would be used for the provision of free treatment to the poor.

He commended Dr Saeed Akhtar, Dr Faisal Dar and the team of doctors, professionals and staff at PKLI as well as the government functionaries for their great national service.

“Together we will make PKLI pride of the nation,” the prime minister remarked.

President approves National Logistic Corporation Bill, 2023

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday gave his assent to National Logistic Corporation Bill, 2023.

The bill is aimed at establishing National Logistic Corporation, the President House press wing said.

The president approved the bill in exercise of the powers conferred on him under Article 75 of the Constitution.

Government stabilizes economy with allies’ support: PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said without the support of allies, the government could never have done the difficult task of reviving the country’s economy alone.

Talking to former Prime Minister Senator Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and member National Assembly Ali Musa Gilani here, Shehbaz Sharif thanked Pakistan Peoples Party for supporting all decisions of the government.

During the meeting, Yusuf Raza Gilani paid tributes to the prime minister for improving the country’s economic situation and providing splendid leadership during a difficult time.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement led by Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on Monday called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here.

The delegation included Dr Farooq Sattar, Federal Minister for IT Syed Aminul Haq and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori.

The members of the delegation thanked the prime minister for addressing their party’s reservations on the seventh digital census, and for incorporation of their suggestions.

“Thanks to Allah Almighty, the seventh digital census has been completed and the results of the census also stand unanimously approved by all political parties,” the prime minister remarked in the meeting.

The meeting discussed the overall political situation in the country.

The delegation apprised the prime minister about the ongoing development projects in Sindh, particularly Karachi.

Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir also attended the meeting.
