Interior Minister seeks report of murder of Sarai Alamgir’s PML-N President
ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (APP): Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah Thursday sought a report from RPO Rawalpindi and DPO Jhelum on the incident of abduction and murderer of Raja Rauf, president of Muslim League-N Sarai Alamgir.
Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah expressed deep concern over the poor law and order situation in Punjab and asked RPO Rawalpindi and DPO Jhelum to report the incident.
Rana Sanaullah directed the concerned institutions to submit the report within 24 hours.
The Minister ordered the immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the incident and bringing them under the law. He also expressed condolences with bereaved family members over this irreparable loss.
President signs Advocate General Amendment Order 2022

ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi, on the advice of the Prime Minister, on Thursday signed the Advocate General (Terms and Conditions) Amendment Order 2022.
The Order will make possible the appointment of law officers at the Advocate General Office, Islamabad.
The law officers, to be appointed in consultation with the Interior and Law and Justice Divisions, will assist the Advocate General in performing his/her duties, a press release issued by the President’s Media Wing here said.
Through the Amendment Order, amendments have been made in the President’s Order No. 1 of 2015, it added.
SECP emphasizes non-bank financial sector to establish sustainable AML/CFT compliance culture
ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (APP): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) stressed the need to cultivate a sustainable and resilient culture of anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) compliance within the non-bank financial sector.
SECP Commissioner Sadia Khan, while talking at the training program arranged by the Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan (MUFAP), highlighted the critical role of non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) in preventing the use of financial systems by criminal elements, said a press release issued here.
She appreciated the efforts of the industry to improve its capabilities for safeguarding the sector against the risk of money laundering, fraud, and terrorism.
The session was attended by compliance professionals and practitioners of asset management companies.
Commissioner Sadia emphasized that SECP, with the support of the government, introduced various regulatory reforms to rationalize the legislative requirements and refine the regulatory processes.
However, she added, to make Pakistan the chosen destination for international investments, the industry was needed to implement an effective AML compliance program to attain an improved international ranking for Pakistan’s financial sector.
“SECP expects financial institutions to implement robust compliance programs geared in line with the specific risks present in the respective sectors,” she said, adding that such initiatives support the development of an effective domestic infrastructure, and complement SECP’s efforts to strengthen AML/CFT Regime.
China supports Saudi Arabian intention to join BRICS
BEIJING, Oct 20 (APP):China on Thursday voiced support for the expansion of BRICS membership after reports about Saudi Arabia showing its intention to join the group that presently comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
“As the BRICS chair for this year, China has actively supported the BRICS in starting the membership expansion process and advanced the ‘BRICS Plus’ cooperation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Wang Wenbin said during his regular briefing.
The spokesperson said that BRICS came into being in the wake of the arrival of an era of major development, transformation and adjustment. For 16 years since its inception, it has delivered fruitful outcomes, making important contributions to the cause of world peace and development.
“That is why BRICS has gained extensive recognition and support from the international community,” he added.
He said that more and more countries wanted to become a member of BRICS, make joint efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges, and realize common goals of development and prosperity.
Wang Wenbin remarked that the 14th BRICS Summit was successfully held in June earlier this year.
President Xi Jinping noted at the meeting that BRICS countries had gathered not in a closed club or an exclusive circle, but a big family of mutual support and a partnership for win-win cooperation.
He said that at the summit, BRICS leaders reached important common understandings about BRICS expansion and expressed support for the discussion on the standards and procedures of the expansion.
“This has been well received in the international community and many countries have expressed interest in joining the BRICS. China supports and welcomes this.” he added.
He said that going forward, China would work with fellow BRICS members to steadily proceed with the BRICS expansion process and enable more partners to join this promising endeavor.
According to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed the desire to join BRICS.
Dialogue urged on global connectivity with special focus on ‘economic diplomacy’
ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (APP): The speakers at the seminar on Thursday emphasized the dialogue on trade, regional and global connectivity, urging improvement in the said sectors, than just relying on mere rhetoric, for the betterment of the country.
The seminar was organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), here, under the title: “Significance of National Security Policy in the Changing Geopolitical Situation.”
Former national security adviser Dr Moeed Yusuf, in his keynote address, stressed on the need of ensuring economic and human security in the country.
He said that Pakistan needed to focus on prioritizing its policies, and distribution of resources, while ensuring the continuity of policies with a special focus on ‘economic diplomacy.’
The address was followed by a question and answer session on a wide range of topics, including national economics, climate change, food and water security, governance model, population growth and surging debt crisis in the country.
Director General ISSI Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in his welcome address highlighted the relevance of the topic chosen for discussion.
DC directs to devise effective plan for Anti-Polio drive
RAWALPINDI, Oct 20 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Shoaib Ali on Thursday directed the health department to devise an optimal plan for the anti-polio campaign starting in the entire district on October 24.
Chairing a meeting to review anti-polio arrangements, he said Polio was a National issue, and it was the responsibility of all to play an effective role in making the country Polio free.
The DC directed the officials to give special attention to those areas of the district marked by the World Health Organization(WHO) as low performing.
On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer Health Dr Ansar Ishaque briefed the meeting with the coordinated efforts of the government and WHO, polio workers were being trained to accomplish the target set of vaccinating around 917,285 children below five years of age.
Sharing details of arrangements for the anti-Polio campaign, he said 3,000 mobile teams,320 fixed points, 243 Union council medical officers and 858 area incharges would administer polio drops during the week-long campaign in the entire district.
The CEO said along with all government initiatives, the active participation of parents was needed to make the campaign successful.
