PN War College delegation meets Minister Faisal Subzwari

ISLAMABAD, Oct 05 (APP): A 10– member delegation of the Pakistan Navy War College visited the Ministry of Maritime Affairs as part of their study tour.

The delegation, headed by Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan SI(M), Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, was briefed by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari.

The minister briefed the delegation on the functions of the ministry and the prospects of the country’s maritime sector, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

He further said that in the National Security Policy, there was special focus on the pivotal role of national economy. He further apprised the young officers on the contributions of all three ports of Pakistan to the national economy and highlighted the challenges that the ministry was facing in each department.

The delegation head briefed the minister about the roles and responsibilities of PN War College and said that it was a premier seat of learning in the Pakistan Navy and provided training to mid-career officers.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from the participant and with the exchange of souvenirs from both the sides.

Murtaza appreciates APO’s role in development of Asia-Pacific region

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP):Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Syed Murtaza Mahmud on Wednesday appreciated the Asian Productivity Organization (APO)’s role in the development of Asia-Pacific region.

Expressing views while addressing an opening ceremony of International Conference on Productivity Accreditation and Certification for Pakistan, Syed Murtaza also conveyed his gratitude to APO Secretary General on APO’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Minister added that working in tandem with similar organizations, the APO and NPOs will be able to find solutions to long-standing problems of the region.

Flt. Lt. (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production has said various rapid industrial transformation initiatives are being taken for the sustained growth and development of the economy by improving industrial competitiveness.

This International Conference on Productivity Accreditation and Certification being held in Pakistan is the continuation of the commemoration of the APO’s Diamond Jubilee which will showcase the productivity improvement journeys in the Asia and Pacific region, specifically efforts to enhance capabilities of NPOs through accreditation programs.
Iftikhar said that APO is playing major role to promote Productivity drive in the region.

APO’s services are reorienting the requirements of the current era of competitiveness both in the domestic and global markets and support export sectors in enhancing competitiveness and yielding higher productivity culture in the country.
The conference is being organized by National Productivity Organization (NPO) in collaboration with Asian Productivity Organization (APO), Japan.

Various international and national resource speakers participated in the event. Moreover, participants from Cambodia, Malaysia, Fiji, Nepal, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Iran, Philippine are participating in the program physically.
Appreciating the conference, he said this initiative will play a major role in reversal of the economy through International certification standards implementation in Pakistan.

Iftikhar Ali expressed satisfaction over the participation of a large and diverse group of International and local professional in the conference and expressed hope that through the active participation and sharing of international experience, Pakistan would definitely achieve the status of Certification Body.

He lauded the efforts of NPO for promoting the Productivity culture in Pakistan through its vision “Economically Productive and Globally Competitive Pakistan”.

APO Secretary General His Excellency, Dr. Indra Pradana Singawinata also addressed the event. He appreciated the efforts of NPO and extended full support in facilitating and strengthening the APO’s mandate in Pakistan. He said that It is a fortunate moment for representatives from APO members to gather to review efforts to enhance the capabilities of NPOs through accreditation programs.

The Accreditation Program is one of the latest initiatives of the APO to raise its visibility as a leading productivity organization. Recognizing the competency and credibility of NPOs or their affiliates as APO-accredited certification bodies (CBs) will build APO brand awareness, cultivate and expand a community of experts, and strengthen APO leadership in the area of productivity.

After the introduction of the program in 2018, he showed his pleasure to share that the NPOs of Malaysia and Vietnam successfully completed the processes and requirements to become APO-accredited CBs in 2021, while India, Indonesia, I.R. Iran Pakistan, and Turkiye will be joining them soon.

Accreditation of NPOs is expected to elevate their capability, adding new skill sets and competencies that are critical for their countries.

He extend sincere appreciation to the Government of Pakistan for hosting this conference. He conveyed his thanks to Federal Minister for Industries and Production Syed Murtaza Mahmud for gracing this conference today despite his busy schedule as well as to the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production, and APO Alternate Director for Pakistan Iftikhar Ali Sahoo.

Finally he appreciated the CEO of the NPO of Pakistan Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry and his dedicated staff members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth organization of this conference.

CEO, NPO, Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry said that APO Accredited Certification Body will provide new horizons to enhance the productivity in Pakistan and thanked all the participants for attending the event. He also wished APO his 60th Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

100 housing units under Flood Relief Village constructed in district Tank; PM’s promise fulfilled

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s promise to construct 100 homes under Flood Relief Village in district Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was fulfilled after the construction task was completed in a record period of time.

The prime minister during his visit to the flood affected district on September 2 had promised construction of 100 homes for the displaced families. On September 3, construction site was selected and on September 11, construction work started after completion of survey on September 7.

The construction process was completed on October 5 in record 24 days. The prominent architect of the country, Ali Naqvi had designed these housing units.

The prime minister thanked Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzies Global Aviation Philipp Joeinig for the construction of flood relief village. The CEO Menzies called on the prime minister.

The prime minister lauded his passion of work and termed the construction of 100 housing units for the flood affected people as vital step in the rehabilitation of the affected families.

The housing units are equipped with facilities of solar system, school, clinic and tube well. The units were made of the latest construction material and technology which could resist extreme weather conditions.

The school has the facility of computer and other latest facilities whereas the clinic would provide health and treatment facilities to the local population.

The Menzies had constructed 270 housing units in Mithan Kot and Rajanpur during 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods.

Pakistan desires robust business ties with Zimbabwe: Naveed Qamar

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP):Pakistan wants strong business ties with Zimbabwe to enhance trade, connectivity and mutually beneficial partnership, said Federal Minister for Commerce and Investments Syed Naveed Qamar.

The minister expressed these views in a meeting with Non-Resident Ambassador of Zimbabwe, Lt Gen (Retd) Martin Chedondo, who visited the Minister’s office here on Wednesday.

Talking to the High Commissioner of Zimbabwe, Syed Naveed Qamar expressed the government’s desire to enhance cooperation in corporate sector especially in the fields of agricultural, pharmaceutical and machinery.

The minister stressed for enhancing bilateral trade volume to its fullest potential.

He said that Zimbabwe being a member of South African Development Community (SADC), could play a vital role in upcoming third Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference & Single Country Exhibition scheduled to be held from November 29 to December 1, 2022 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

And expressed the hope that business community from Zimbabwe would actively participate in the exhibition which ultimately would step forward in exchanging of business delegations establishment of joint working groups on trade and trade agreements.

The High Commissioner said that Pakistan and Zimbabwe’s relationships are historical and based on mutual respect for each other as Pakistan always stood with Zimbabwe since the country gained official independence in 1980.

However, he urged the need to enhance interactions between the business communities as well as the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries to fully achieve the potential of bilateral trade volume.

Chedondo said that bilateral trade between the two countries is constantly increasing but the volume of bilateral trade between the two sides does not commensurate with the actual potential.

The High Commissioner assured his full support in upcoming Exhibition and agreed upon the exchange of business delegations in future to explore the opportunities and ways to boost bilateral trade between the two countries especially in agricultural, mining, defense and machinery.

Mr. Chedondo also condoled on the current situation of the Pakistan due to flood and expressed his deep grief on the loss and assured his support in this hour of trail.

Murad for efficient water use to ensure food security in climate hit areas

KARACHI, Oct 05 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Wednesday, stressed on efficient use of agriculture water to ensure food security amid changing cropping patterns due to climate change.

In a meeting with Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins here at CM House, Murad Ali Shah said that Pakistan, particularly the people of Sindh has become the first victims of climate change and millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) were facing numerous problems due to unprecedented heavy rains and flooding.


The CM said that in the early Kharif Sindh was facing acute shortage of water and then heavy monsoon downpours turned everything upside down.


He added that water was becoming an expensive commodity therefore we have to ensure its efficient use for agricultural purposes.


Food security could only be ensured by focusing on agriculture research and introducing modern high-yield varieties of wheat and rice crops requiring less water, the CM Shah opined.


He informed that issues of out break of dengue, malaria, and skin disease in IDPs was being dealt with by establishing medical camps to provide treatment to the patients while efforts for swiftly draining out accumulated water were underway.


The Australian HC accompanied by First Secretary Ashleigh Light and Political Secretary Fareeha Shamim expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of life caused by the recent floods.


Impact of climate change has started emerging in the shape of heavy downpours, scorching heat, and melting of heat; the high commissioner noted and suggested release of flood water into the River and finally discharged in the sea which might help maintaining stability of the ecosystem.


The visiting diplomat and the chief minister also agreed to take benefit from each other’s experiences in respect of cropping patterns and high-yield crops.


The chief minister presented shield, Sindhi ajrak, and cap to the visiting guest, who reciprocated with presenting a book to Murad.
