Govt to unveil historic Kissan package for agriculture sector next week: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the government would unveil a historic Kissan package next week for development of the agriculture sector.

Describing agriculture as the backbone of national economy, he said it was also very important for socio-economic development the country.

The prime minister, who held separate meetings with various delegations of farmers, directed the committee of relevant ministers to present actionable recommendations for the redressal of growers’ problems, in consultation with their representatives at the earliest.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Minister for National Food Security Tariq Bashir Cheema, Member of the Provincial Assembly (Punjab) Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan and senior officials concerned were present in the meetings.

The prime minister expressed his resolve to provide all possible relief for the development of agricultural sector and ensure the welfare of growers in the light of the committee’s recommendations and keeping in view the country’s current economic situation.

In that respect, he also announced to unveil the historic Kissan package during the Kissan conference to be held next week.

The prime minister while referring to the steps he had taken for the development of agriculture sector and for the welfare of Kissan brothers during his stint as Punjab chief minister, reminded how he had always protected the interests of farmers and provided them subsidy for the payment of electricity bills, provision of fertilizers and procurement of agricultural tools.

PM thanks EU for €30 million humanitarian aid for flood-hit Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday thanked the European Union for allocating €30 million in a new humanitarian aid for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-stricken people of Pakistan.

“Grateful to European Union, particularly President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission for the announcement of €30 million in new EU humanitarian aid for Pakistan,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter.

He said that the gravity of food and health challenges in the flood-ravaged areas could be met through deeper cooperation from the world.

The announcement for €30 million aid came during the visit of Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič’s visit to Pakistan.

According to the European Commission, the new funding aims to address urgent needs such as shelter, water and sanitation, food and nutrition, health, protection, education in emergencies and cash assistance, focusing on the most affected areas of the country, notably Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Given the scale of the crisis, psychological support needs will also be addressed, it added.

PPP to sweep Karachi local elections : Saeed Ghani

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP):Provincial Minister of Sindh for Labour Saeed Ghani on Tuesday predicted that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) could sweep the first phase of Sindh local body elections, if Election Commission of Pakistan would conduct elections timely.

“We will win in Karachi too”, he claimed.

Talking to a private news channel, he said that during flash-flood situation whole nation was united to help the flood victims, but, Imran Khan was holding rallies for elections.


Khan incited people not to help the elected government in flood relief work, he accused.


Explaining the efforts made for the rehabilitation of the flood victims, the minister said that the external assistance is insufficient, but with the help of various social organizations, the government is trying to complete the relief and rehabilitation process for the flood victims as soon as possible.


Answering question regarding Chairman’s health, he said that Asif Ali Zardari was admitted in Hospital in Karachi due to post COVID-19 complications, now he is recovering well, and as far as I know, he is not going abroad, he said.
