IHC reserves verdict regarding PTI chief’s shifting to Adiala Jail
ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday reserved its judgment, observing that it would pass an appropriate order in an appeal of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman seeking his shifting from the District Jail Attock to the Central Jail Adiala.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from respondents in the said case.
During the course of proceedings, the chief justice remarked that the petitioner was of the view that the trial court had sent him to the Adiala Jail but he was lodged in the Attock Jail.
Assistant Advocate General Punjab Rao Shaukat produced the notification regarding shifting of the convict to the Attock Jail, saying reasons were mentioned about the action.
To the court’s query, he said that a lawyer of PTI chairman had already met him on August 7 to take his signatures on the power of attorney and other documents.
The court questioned whether a lawyer could meet his client only for his taking signatures on document. Rejecting the requests to visit the prisoner could fall under contempt of court, he added.
Rao Shaukat said the jail administration had permitted the lawyer to visit Imran Khan on August 7, but they reached late on August 8 and 9.
The petitioner’s counsel Sher Afzal Marawat argued that the lawyers were being humiliated in the matter of meeting their client.
The chief justice observed that the PTI chief was a former prime minister and leader of a big political party, and at the same time he was convicted, and “we have to move while keeping in mind all of this together”.
He said the court was viewing the matter deeply so such thing wouldn’t happen again. The PTI chairman should be provided facilities as per the rules, he added.
The chief justice said the court would pass an order pertaining to the provision of facilities to the PTI chief in prison and the permission to meet his lawyers. After this, the court reserved its verdict.
UAJK to commemorate Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day with festive programs
MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 11 (APP): The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) is all set to observe Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day through a series of dynamic and patriotic initiatives.
In an official statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Department here Friday, it was announced that the scheduled holiday on August 14 will be waived to facilitate a comprehensive lineup of events, including flag hoisting ceremonies, freedom walks, seminars and conferences.
Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, a meeting was convened to finalize the arrangements, underscoring the paramount importance of celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day with unwavering enthusiasm. The meeting was attended by Registrar Prof. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Director of Student Affairs Dr. Imtiaz Awan, Public Relations Officer Mubashar Naqvi, and Deputy Director of Student Affairs Dr. Adnan Altaf.
The planned activities for the day include a central flag hoisting ceremony, a freedom walk and a seminar to be held at the Education Hall, Chehlla Campus Muzaffarbad. The event will see participation from the Vice-Chancellor, administrative personnel, faculty members, staff, and a substantial representation of students.
Following the flag hoisting ceremony, a significant freedom walk will commence from the Administration Block at Chehlla Campus and will culminate at the Education Hall. The seminar at the Education Hall will feature esteemed guests, including former Chief Justice, Justice (Retd.) Syed Manzoor-ul-Hassan Gillani, Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Commission, Dr. Raja Sajjad Latif, and other dignitaries.
Addressing on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi reiterated his commitment to commemorating Pakistan’s Independence Day in accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifices made during the struggle for Pakistan’s inception and called upon all to embrace the indomitable spirit of the national heroes who were instrumental in the Pakistan Movement.
“In today’s context, it is imperative for both our students and ourselves to embody the true essence of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s teachings,” Prof. Dr. Abbasi said. He underscored the profound value of freedom, emphasizing that the gratitude expressed for the blessings of an independent nation will always fall short. He stressed to every citizen to reflect upon the resolute struggle for freedom being undertaken by our Kashmiri brethren, who persistently strive for liberation under Indian occupation and facing draconian laws.
As the Independence Day festivities are approaching, Prof. Dr. Kaleem Abbasi encouraged the university’s faculty, administrative staff, and students to actively participate in the scheduled programs.

Six matches played in Hazara Region Azadi Cup Squash Championship
ABBOTTABAD, Aug 11 (APP): The Hazara Region Azadi Cup Squash Championship continued on second day Friday with seven matches of senior and open categories played here at the Jan Sher Khan Squash Complex.
The championship has been organised by the Regional Squash Association and the Regional Sports Department.
In the first match, Saim Tariq exhibited his skills by securing a resounding victory against Abdullah Qadir by three to zero. Likewise, Abu Bakar also showcased his talent and defeated Jazib Tariq with a score of three to zero.
Likewise, Haris and Saaim Tariq emerged as victors in their matches against Ismail and Rohan respectively with the scores of three to zero.
Abdullah Naser defeated Ahmed Ali in a closely contested match with the score of three to two, while Bilal overwhelmed his opponent Faizan with a score of three to zero.
The match between Matiab and Bilal Hussain was a thrilling encounter, in which Matiab emerged victorious with a score of two to one.
