Independence Day celebrations begin at NCA

LAHORE, Aug 11 (APP):The National College of Arts has arranged a number of activities to celebrate the 76th Independence Day in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

According to a press release on Friday, celebrations have already commenced with a plantation event. The Vice Chancellor of NCA, senior faculty, and staff participated in planting saplings. For an exhibition, students have started making artworks, while the NCA archive department is preparing preserved and rare photographs for the exhibition.


In his message, NCA Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Murtaza Jafari said the purpose of the events is to raise awareness among the young generation about the value of our homeland and the sacrifices made by our elders for its independence. Keeping the tradition alive, a grand flag-hoisting ceremony will take place at NCA on Independence Day followed by prayers and the national anthem. Special badges and flags shall be distributed among the participants after the flag-hoisting ceremony. A musical performance is also part of the final day celebrations.


The ceremony will be attended by senior faculty members and college staff, including Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Murtaza Jafari. In addition to the flag-hoisting, an exhibition showcasing artworks / archive on the theme of the Pakistan Movement will be held at NCA’s Zahoor-ul-Akhlaq Gallery. A project of decorating campus walls is also underway which engaged students and staff.

One dies, 4 injured in Jhang cylinder explosion

JHANG, Aug 11 (APP):A person was killed and four injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a pharmaceutical distribution outlet in Jhang Thursday night.

According to Rescue 1122 sources, the gas cylinder exploded at the kitchen of Noor Distributors, injuring five persons who were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. One of them, Adnan Sarwar son of the owner of the outlet, later succumbed to his injuries.

Man killed as truck overturned

FAISALABAD, Aug 11 (APP):A loaded truck overturned near Khurrianwala which left a peddler dead on the spot on Friday.

Rescue-1122 sources said that a truck loaded with maize was overturned on a peddler some 3-km away from Khurrianwala towards Jarranwala road.
The deceased was later identified as Barkat Ali, 65, resident of Chak 205-RB, while truck driver Irshad suffered critical injuries.
The rescue team shifted the injured to Rafique Shaheed hospital, Faisalabad,while the body was handed over to police.

Independence Day to be rainy; PMD forecast more monsoon rains

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Friday forecast rain-wind-thundershower at various parts of the country from August 13 (night) till August 16.

According to the synoptic situation, moderate monsoon currents from Arabian Sea were penetrating in upper parts of the country. A westerly wave was also likely to enter in various parts of the country on August 13.

Under the influence of these systems, rain/wind-thundershower with few moderate to heavy falls is expected in Kashmir, (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera from August 13 (evening/night) to August 16 with occasional gaps.

Rain/wind-thundershower is also expected in Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Bhakkar from August 14-16 with occasional gaps.
While in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar on August 15 and 16.

About the impacts, the PMD said that moderate to heavy falls might increase the water flows in local Nullahs/streams of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi/Islamabad from August 14-16.

Moderate to heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore on August 14 and 15 and may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the wet spell.

The farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast while the tourists and travelers are advised to remain extra cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.
Wind-thunderstorm may damage loose structures like electric poles, solar panels etc.
The general public is advised to stay at safe places during wind-storm/lightning/heavy rains.

All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert and to take necessary precautionary measure during the forecast period.

Five caught for pilfering electricity

SIALKOT, Aug 11 (APP):Five persons were caught for allegedly pilfering electricity directly from the main transmission lines and through meter tempering in the district.

According to details, on a report of Sub Division Officer (SDO) Gepco, Muradpur police detained Hassan Kazmi from Ratian Syedan, Adnan from Ugoki police station precincts, Shamas Mushtaq from Bombanwala police station area, Talha Adnan from the jurisdiction of Sambrial and Mohsin Ali from Bhopalwala for stealing electricity.
Police have registered cases and started investigation, in this regard.
