MIRPUR AJK, Aug 14 (APP): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry has said that a strong, stable and prosperous Pakistan was a guarantor of the success of the Kashmiris’ freedom movement.

Barrister Chaudhry said this while addressing a grand ceremony held at Kashmir House in a federal metropolis on Monday to celebrate the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan.

The ceremony was attended by diplomats of different countries, including Japan, Turkey, Cyprus, Austria and other countries.

On the occasion, the national flag of Pakistan was unfurled by AJK President Barrister Sultan Muhammad Chaudhry, which was followed by a salute by a smartly turned-out contingent of the AJK police.

While national anthems of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir were played on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Chaudhry said, “On this auspicious occasion we renew our pledge to strengthen the cause for which this great country-Pakistan-was created under the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah”.

He said that a strong and stable Pakistan was a guarantor of the freedom of Kashmir.

He said that there was a dire need that the political forces as well as people of all schools of thought must forge unity and pool their efforts to strengthen Pakistan the way Pakistan’s armed forces had been protecting the country’s ideological and geographical frontiers.

He said that it was high time that we became a voice for the voiceless Kashmiris who have been reeling under relentless oppression and Indian brutality for the past several decades.

Barrister Chaudhry, while referring to Pakistan’s consistent support of the Kashmir cause, said, “Pakistan has always lent its political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.”

He said that it was incumbent upon the international community, in particular the United Nations, to discharge their obligations vis a vis the settlement of the lingering dispute and impress on the Indian government to fulfil its promise of granting the right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir.

Referring to the ruthless persecution of religious minorities in India, he said, “The shameful treatment of Christians in Manipur has further exposed India’s state terrorism.”

Citing former US President Barack Obama’s recent interview, Barrister Chaudhry said that the US President clearly stated, “India may pull apart if the rights of the religious and ethnic minorities were not upheld.”

He said, “The ruthless suppression of religious minorities in India has also made it clear to the world that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s ideology and demand for a separate homeland for the Muslims was absolutely correct.”

The president said, “India has been treating Muslims in Occupied Kashmir the same way it has persecuted Sikhs, Christians and other minority groups in Punjab, Manipur and other states.”

Barrister Chaudhry said that the United Nations, OIC and other civilized nations should play an effective role to resolve the deadly Kashmir conflict to ensure lasting peace in South Asia.

Terming the unresolved Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan as the biggest threat to regional peace, he said that the lingering dispute, if left unaddressed, could jeopardise the peace of the entire world.

Later, President AJK Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry along with foreign diplomats cut the cake to mark the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (APP):President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday stressed the need to look forward for Pakistan’s prosperity and uplift by ignoring the fallacies of the past.

“Blaming the past is not an issue of Pakistan, it is building the future,” he said while addressing on the occasion of a photo exhibition here at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

In the exhibition, well known artist Ali Azmat thematically presented Quid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s portraits in acrylic and charcoal medium.

The event was organized by “ForArtSake”-a non-government organization, in collaboration with Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

The president said Quid-i-Azam was an inspiring personality who always believed in hard work, unity, faith and discipline.

He said Muslim history was also rich in arts and architecture and at a time Baghdad was the center of artistic activities.

“I am a big admirer of the art and architecture as the artists beautifully depict the whole of the society,” he added.

He said the new generation should also be shown the portraits of big personalities such as Quid-i-Azam to strengthen their belief in Quid’s saying “Unity, Faith and Discipline”.

The president said the countries were formed for people, not for state, therefore they must be given the opportunity to enjoy their basic rights in the society.

Curator of the even Amna Pataudi said Ali Azmat alluded to the glaring reality that Pakistan faced today-that of straying tragically away from reality that Pakistan faces today-that of straying away from Quid’s envisioned state of Pakistan.

She added that through their work, artists brought colour and beauty in the lives of people.

Artist Ali Azmat said turning Pakistan’s struggle for independence into a reality was such a remarkable feat and colossal contribution that even contemporary political opponents recognized and admired his political acumen.

“What inspired and move me the most about his (Quid-i-Azam) life is his steadfast belief that hard work and sincerity of purpose will defy any worldly power and lead to success.

He said “our generation inherited the love for our leader, and I believe it is our responsibility to pass on this love with the same intensity and passion to the upcoming generations, because living nations never forget their benefactors”.

He said the affection displayed in these painting not only expressed his love for the leader, but also served as a humble effort to keep this love alive in the hearts of future generations.

Chinese company to help Pakistan boost edible oil production

0

BEIJING, Aug. 14 (APP):: Pakistan’s annual consumption of edible oil is around 5 million tons, but due to the low economic potential of oilseeds in the local market, they are not preferred by the farmers.

The country has to import about 89 percent of oil to meet the demand, spending US$3.6 billion annually.

Pakistan’s iron brother, China, also has great demand for edible oil.

Last year, China’s cooking oil consumption is about 13.44 million tons. China also suffered a short domestic supply of edible oil until the mid-1950s, when China began to promote brassica napus, also known as victory rapeseed.

Brassica napus plants are tall, disease resistant, and more importantly, the yield is very high.

The improvement of rapeseed varieties laid the foundation for China to greatly increase rapeseed production.

In recent years, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) has made a great breakthrough in breeding new varieties of rapeseed, which have been extended to some parts of northern China.

Rapeseed now realized seasonal rotation with rice, wheat and other staple crops, which maximizes the utilization of arable land. Such Chinese experience and technologies can be a good reference for Pakistan, according to CEN.

Chinese company Wuhan Qingfa-Hesheng and a Pakistani company Evyol Group jointly provide high-quality hybrid rapeseeds to Pakistani farmers.

“It took us 10 years to produce a variety that is compatible with the local climate, produces a good yield and is good for human health,” said Ghazanfar Ali, head of marketing in the Evyol group.

“The crop provides an increased profit for the farmers. They can get 1.5 tons of yield out of 2 acres of land, which is over 10 percent more than the yield from other varieties currently available in Pakistan.”

“This year we sold 11 tons of seeds across Pakistan, which will be cultivated on 20,000 acres, and our target for next year is 100 tons,” said Zhou Xusheng, director of the international business department of Wuhan Qingfa-Hesheng Seed company.

The Chinese company will also buy back the canola harvest from some of the farmers and send it to the edible oil factories so that both farmer and the factory owners can realize the potential and health benefits of the oil.

PM calls for rekindling spirit of Independence Movement, lessons of unity, self-belief

Shahbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13 (APP):Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has underlined the need to summon the spirit that marked the Independence Movement and employ the lesson of unity and self-belief to chart the way forward.
“There is no denying the importance of many milestones we have achieved in the last seven and a half decades, often against opposing circumstances. We have faced the worst natural disasters, conflicts and wars and always managed to build back better. All along the way, we have jealously guarded the gift of freedom that we so passionately prize, the prime minister said in a message on the celebration of 76th anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence.
The prime minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to the entire nation including overseas Pakistanis on the celebration of the independence day.
“The 14th of August is more than just a date; it is a symbol of the Pakistani nation’s resilience, courage and unwavering commitment to freedom. As the nation commemorates this day, it is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of the past, celebrate the achievements of the present, and envision a brighter future for our people,” a press release quoted the prime minister as saying.
The prime minister said the spirit of independence continued to inspire Pakistanis to overcome challenges and work towards a nation that embodied the principles of justice, equality, and prosperity for all.
“On this day, let us remember the sacrifices of our forefathers and pledge to uphold the values that define our great nation,” he added.
The prime minister said the day held a special significance in their hearts, for this historic day saw an unprecedented freedom struggle culminating in the establishment of the state of Pakistan.
Today, they paid rich tributes to the men, women and children who got together under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to struggle for the creation of a land they could call home, he added.
In the process, the prime minister said, they established a glorious example of commitment and devotion to the cause of Pakistan.
“I also take this opportunity to pay homage to the Quaid-i-Azam’s visionary leadership and other leaders without whom the dream of Pakistan could not see the light of day. The nation will eternally remain indebted to them for gifting us with the precious gift of freedom,” he added.
The freedom struggle for a separate homeland represented an idea; an idea rooted in self-assertion and hope of a better tomorrow, he said, adding it was for a country where the people could explore their potential and live a life in peace and prosperity in line with their glorious traditions, ethos, culture and values.
The idea of Pakistan was much bigger than they could imagine; it was an aspiration, which was shaped by a fear of living under the majoritarian principle advocated by Congress, he added.
The prime minister said Quaid-i-Azam challenged this interpretation, which was meant to suppress Muslims’ identity and keep them as a minority under the garb of Western democracy.
The prime minister further said on the one hand, he established that Muslims were a separate nation in every sense and their demand for a separate homeland was historically justified and warned that forcing them to live in a large country under the principle of majoritarianism was a recipe for disaster.
On the other hand, he led a peaceful democratic and political struggle. So staunch was his determination and belief unwavering in the justness of his cause that the combined opposition of the ruling British and Congress failed to dent his resolve, the prime minister added.
“Two lessons are noteworthy in this regard. One, unity was one of the most remarkable aspects of Pakistan’s independence that emerged from a diverse tapestry of cultures, languages, and ethnicities,” he observed.
The prime minister said 14th of August was not only a celebration of political freedom; it was a testament to the ability of a nation to come together to overcome mammoth challenges.
Pakistan’s flag, he said, with its green representing the Muslim majority and white symbolizing religious minorities, embodied the principle of unity in diversity that continues to shape the nation’s identity.
Second, no obstacle is too insurmountable to be overcome if a person is driven by a deep sense of purpose. Self-belief ignites the imagination of nations and powers their journey towards the destination.
The prime minister further said on the day, they stood in complete solidarity with the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), who were waging a struggle for their right to self-determination.
Pakistan remained committed to providing political, moral, and diplomatic support to them. Despite a four-year military siege and complete information blackout, the people of IIOJK have displayed  remarkable resilience and defiance against the Indian oppressive apparatus, he added.
“We call upon the international community and human rights organizations to take note of the rights abuses in IIOJK. Our stance remains firm, advocating for a peaceful resolution of the dispute in line with the UN resolutions, recognizing the right of Kashmiri people to decide their own future through a free and fair plebiscite,” the prime minister stressed.
