Most wanted operative of different Lyari gangs arrested

KARACHI, Aug 15 (APP):The district City Police arrested a most wanted operative of the Lyari gang war and recovered a hand grenade from his possession.

According to SSP City Arif Aziz on Tuesday, the accused identified as Ghulam Muhammad alias Ghulamu was the mastermind of disrupting peace in Lyari and he patronized the different gangs in Lyari.

He patronized the notorious Rehman Dacoit and Uzair Baloch gangs. He was the mastermind of disrupting peace and spreading unrest and fear in Lyari and activating gang war groups.

Ghulam Muhammad has been arrested earlier also for his involvement in various crimes.

A case has been registered and further investigations were underway.

Partly cloudy weather forecast for city

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 15 (APP):The local Met Office has forecast dry to partly cloudy weather for the city during the next 24 hours.
The highest maximum temperature 37 centigrade and the lowest minimum 27 centigrade were recorded during the last 24 hours.
The dry to partly cloudy weather has also been forecast for the rest of the region.

Photo exhibition highlights Pakistan movement

SARGODHA, Aug 15 (APP):A photo exhibition titled “Roshni ka Safar” was held at the Punjab Council of Arts Sargodha division hall in connection with Jashan-e-Azadi celebrations here on Monday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding 3-Air Defence Major General Asad-ul-Rehman Afzal Cheema while other officers were also present. The chief guest and participants viewed the photos which highlighted the struggle and sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan. They appreciated the talent of the artists for showcasing the history of Pakistan through their photos.

Meanwhile, an Azadi Mehfil-e-Mushaira was held in which renowned poets Mumtaz Arif, Adeeb Syed, Prof Haroon-ul-Rasheed Tabbasum, Prof Yousif Khalid, Dr Asif Raaz and others presented their poetry.

Later, the Punjab Council of the Arts also presented a stage drama titled “Tota Jannat Da” as part of a drama festival in connection with Jashan-e-Azadi celebrations in which artists performed excellently and their performance was warmly applauded by the audience. They also appreciated the Arts Council for the initiative.

Eight held with narcotics, weapons

SARGODHA, Aug 15 (APP):Police on Tuesday arrested eight accused and recovered narcotics and
weapons from them.
Police said teams of Jhawarian and Factory Area police stations conducted raids
and arrested eight accused, and recovered 1.3 kg hashish, 22 liters of liquor, two guns,
a pistol and a rifle.
They were identified as Murtaza,Umar Daraz,Qadir,Usman,Asghar,Zeeshan,Amir and Waqar.
Cases were registered against the accused.

PSX witnesses bullish trend, gains 141 points

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bullish trend on Tuesday, gaining 141.35 points, a positive change of 0.29 per cent, closing at 48,565.75 points against 48,424.40 points the previous trading day.

A total of 251,692,333 shares were traded during the day as compared to 368,334,990 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs9.038 billion against Rs17.063 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 340 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 160 of them recorded gains and 155 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 25 companies remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were K-Electric Ltd with 32,221,592 shares at Rs 2.36 per share; WorldCall Telecom with 26,238,028 shares at Rs.1.22 per share and Dewan Motors with 16,932,604 shares at Rs.14.08 per share.

Nestle Pakistan XD witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 118.00 per share price, closing at Rs 7,299.00, whereas the runner-up was Al-Abbas Sugar with an Rs 33.70 rise in its per share price to Rs483.80.

Sapphire Tex witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 27.45 per share closing at Rs 1,050.11; followed by Colgate Palm with Rs 11.75 decline to close at Rs 1,355.75.

South Punjab secretariat puts region on new path of development: ACS

MULTAN, Aug 15 (APP):Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, Capt. (R) Saqib Zafar, said that the South Punjab Secretariat has put the region on a new path of development.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of 36 officers of under training Pakistan Administrative Service at the Civil Service Academy who called at his office here on Tuesday.
Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel, Secretary Services South Punjab Amjad Shoaib Khan Tareen and Deputy Director Civil Service Academy Rehmat Wali Khan were also present in the meeting.
He further said that now not even a single penny could be transferred from development funds allocated in the budget out of South Punjab. Likewise, an integrated mechanism has been developed for the timely resolution of public grievances.
He said secretariat office system has been digitized and e-filing system been introduced for official correspondence.
The under construction Secretariat will also be a reflection of corporate culture.
ACS said that South Punjab plays a key role in the agricultural production of the country.
He said that cotton cultivation has been done on record land in South Punjab and it is expected that better cotton yield will prove to be the ladder of economic development of the country.
He said that government was making plans for dairy development and corporate farming.
The food security needs could be met by turning the desert of Cholistan and Thal of the region into green fields.
Mr Saqib said that a pilot project of artificial rain system for irrigation purpose was being launched in Cholistan and in the first phase, a target of making 6 million acres land cultivable has been set.
He said that the service delivery of the subordinate departments was improving and attendance of doctors and paramedical staff being ensured in rural health centers due to the monitoring of the administrative secretaries.
He said that according to the results of recent matriculation exams, the education boards of South Punjab were at the top in the entire province.
Similarly, South Punjab is leading in the enrollment campaign in schools,he added.
He said that Sobh-e- Nau and transgender schools were proud initiatives of the School Education department while UNICEF has also praised launching of Green Book in schools regarding climate change.
Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab said the region, located at the junction of three provinces, has very importance in terms of its civilization and culture and there are immense opportunities to promote tourism.
On this occasion, ACS gave a commemorative shield to the head of the delegation while a Souvenir of Civil Service Academy also presented to Chief Secretary South Punjab by the officers.

IHC directs police to produce Sheharyar Afridi

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to produce arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leader Sheharyar Khan Afridi before it on Wednesday and also summoned the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) in personal capacity.

Justice Babar Sattar, hearing the case, observed that it was necessary to cite reasons for keeping anyone in custody. He issued show-cause notices to the ICT Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations as to why not contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against them.

At the outset of hearing, Afridi’s lawyer argued that his client was arrested in seven cases but later granted bail. So far seven orders for his arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order had been terminated by courts. He had been in jail for the last 90 days.

Besides issuing show-cause notices, the court also sought the three-month record of the MPO orders.

Rain in city, turns weather pleasant

LAHORE, Aug 15 (APP):After days of unbearable heat and humidity, the citizen heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday
afternoon with scattered rain in the provincial capital which turned the weather pleasant.
The downpour occurred in different localities which broke intensity of humidity 65 per cent
with the maximum temperature 36 degrees Celsius.
In some areas, the rain added to woes and miseries for motorists and pedestrians as
the rainwater inundated some roads.
“Hot and humid weather is expected in plain areas of the country, including the provincial capital.
However, rain-wind/thundershower is expected at isolated places in northeast Punjab
during the next 24 hours”, daily weather report said.

200 cases registered under dengue act

MULTAN, Aug 15 (APP):District administration has launched a comprehensive crackdown against the dengue and health department teams got registered 200 cases under Dengue act.
Focal person for dengue campaign Dr. Atta-ul-Rehman led the crackdown.
More than 50 commercial places were also sealed after dengue larvae found during the crackdown.
The district departments conducted special checking and teams have also been formed under the directions of DC Umar Jehangir.
Umar Jahangir said in a statement that 986 cases were got registered under dengue act during current month while 26 people were arrested after finding dengue larvae in 421 places.
He said that there was zero tolerance policy to dispose off dengue larvae for the protection of citizen’s lives.

Pakistan embassy in Hungary to arrange a maiden exhibition of Pakistani artists

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP): The Embassy of Pakistan in Hungary has announced to arrange the first-ever four-day art exhibition of Pakistani artists from September 5, in connection with the 76th anniversary of Independence Day.

The exhibition titled “Chaharbagh” will display the work of eight artists interpreting their thoughts in different mediums from traditional miniatures to contemporary mix media, a press release on Tuesday said.

The artists will include Alefiya, Javaria Ahmad, Maryam Cheema, Minaa Haroon, Murad Khan, Mumtaz, Sakina Akbar, Sana Durrani and Sundas Azfer.

Their interpretations will be skillfully presented both in a literal sense and through metaphorical nuances.
