PSX loses 419 points

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend on Wednesday, losing 419.31 points, a negative change of 0.86 per cent, closing at 48,146.44 points against 48,565.75 points the previous trading day.

A total of 194,576,873 shares were traded during the day as compared to 251,692,333 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 7.670 billion against Rs 9.038 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 339 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 88 of them recorded gains and 227 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 24 companies remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were K-Electric Ltd with 19,296,096 shares at Rs 2.28 per share; Dewan Motors with 14,109,099 shares at Rs.15.14 per share and Oil and Gas Dev with 10,957,134 shares at Rs.98.28 per share.

Bata (Pak) witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 44.00 per share price, closing at Rs 1,770.00, whereas the runner-up was Reliance Cotton with an Rs 25.79 rise in its per share price to Rs 488.29.

Allawasaya Tex witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 140.00 per share closing at Rs 1,760.00; followed by Rafhan Maize with Rs 100.00 decline to close at Rs 8,500.00.

SFJ raises £250,000 for 2024 Scotland vote on Khalistan Referendum

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):The Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) pro-Khalistan group has collected £250,000 for a Khalistan Referendum vote in Scotland in 2024 in response to the Indian government’s crackdown on Sikh Khalistani activists in the United Kingdom (UK).

According to a message received here, SFJ has managed to accumulate a substantial Khalistan Campaign Fund (KCF) of £250,000, alongside disclosing their strategy to organize a Khalistan Referendum Voting in Scotland in 2024.

SFJ’s announcement came within three days of UK Security Minister Tom Tugendhat’s visit to India and the UK government’s increased efforts to suppress pro-Khalistan activities.

The Khalistan Referendum is causing seismic effects in India, resembling significant explosions, and the eventual partition of the country is becoming unavoidable,” expressed Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ’s General Counsel. Pannun also noted, “Under UK laws, the obligation to protect the speech and expression rights of the Sikh People falls upon the government of Rishi Sunak.” Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Just last week, UK’s Security Minister Tom Tugendhat revealed a fresh funding of £95,000 (approximately Rs 1 crore) to strengthen the country’s ability in countering “pro-Khalistan extremism.”

During his three-day visit to India, Tom Tugendhat, the UK’s Security Minister, discussed this matter with the British High Commission.

They revealed that a £95,000 investment is intended to improve the government’s understanding of the challenges associated with “pro-Khalistan extremism.” This investment will work in tandem with the existing joint efforts between the UK and India through the joint-extremism task force.

In a three-day visit to India, Tom Tugendhat, the UK’s Security Minister, engaged in discussions with the British High Commission. The Commission unveiled a £95,000 investment aimed at enhancing the government’s grasp of the complexities linked to “pro-Khalistan extremism.” This financial commitment will collaborate with the ongoing joint initiatives between the UK and India under the joint-extremism task force.

In the meantime, the Khalistan flag was hoisted at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC, specifically at the Gandhi Statue, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday said that he looked forward to working with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on advancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially trade, investment and energy.

The prime minister, in a meeting with the UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, who called on him here, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support for Pakistan’s economic and financial stability.

The ambassador conveyed the greetings of the UAE leadership to the prime minister on his assumption of office.

Prime Minister Kakar thanked the UAE government for the warm congratulatory messages and said that Pakistan and UAE enjoyed historic and deep-rooted fraternal ties.

He also wished the UAE success in hosting the COP28 Summit later this year.

The prime minister also emphasized the important role played by the Pakistani diaspora in the UAE and sought the UAE government’s continued support to them.

Accused of torturing, physical assault held

DG Khan, Aug 16 (APP):Police arrested two accused being booked in a case of torture and physical assault on a citizen here on Wednesday.

According to police, the victim named Mohammed Hussain Ali registered a report with Kot Chota Police Station that the four people namely Saif ur Rehman, Usman, Abdul Aahd and Hafizullah severely tortured him after the kidnap.

Later as per the FIR, the accused subjected him to physical assault and made its video.

Police registered the case with sections 881/ 23 of the criminal law of the constitution before starting the investigation. The rest of the two accused are still at bay whom police trying to arrest, it is said.

Do not let cotton crop deficient in water, fertilizers at fruit stage

MULTAN, Aug 16 (APP):Cotton crop is undergoing a healthy fruit stage under favourable weather conditions with formation of fruit, buds and bolls in full swing and farmers must not keep crop deficient in water and fertilizers at this stage.

These views were expressed by experts at the 9th farmers technical advisory committee meeting chaired via video link by Director Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) here on Wednesday.

The cotton experts’ finalized recommendations for next fifteen days for cotton crop management applicable till August 31.

Dr. Zahid Mahmood said that in case of rains farmer should not let water standing and drain it out to avoid chances of plant wilting.

Virus affected crop should get water and fertilizers in suitable quantity to lessen disease impact.

Water and fertilizers be also applied in case of low or no growth.

If crop witnesses vegetative growth with low fruit bearing then farmers should apply some suitable growth retardent after consulting agriculture officials.

Farmers should perform hoeing to remove weeds.

The experts said that steps to remove weeds and application of pesticides should be completed before rain.

In case of crop at maturity stage, farmers should perform picking before rain.

Quality of fiber and seed from bolls affected by rain is usually compromised, the experts said and advised farmers not to keep seed from such bolls for sowing.

Seed from bolls hit by pink bollworm or dusky cotton bug should also be avoided for sowing.

Cotton picking should first target healthy and open bolls and then Phutti be exposed before sunlight to reduce moisture.

Crop bearing fruit in good number must not remain deficient in Nitrogenous fertilizers.

To trigger more fruit, farmers should apply spray of 250gm Zinc Sulphate, 300gm Magnesiun Sulphate, and 150gm Borex in 100 litres of water per acre.

A solution of two kilogram Urea can also be added to the solution to get good results.

In case of crop turning yellow after rain, farmers should prepare separate solutions of Two kilogram Urea, and 300gm Magnessiun Sulphate and mix it in 100 liters of water.

This solution be sprayed on the affected crop per acre.

The crop that did not receive Potassium fertilizers earlier must get 10 kilogram Potassium Sulphate per acre through Irrigation.

In areas where pest attack has been witnessed, farmers should consult agriculture officials to apply suitable pesticides.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday said that he was “gutted” by the visuals coming from Jaranwala involving the attack on minorities, assuring that strict action would be taken against law violators.

“I am gutted by the visuals coming out of Jaranwala, Faisalabad. Stern action would be taken against those who violate law and target minorities,” the prime minister wrote on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

He was responding to a post on X by President Bishop Church of Pakistan Bishop Azad Marshall, who highlighted an incident of attack on a church and torturing of Christians on blasphemy accusations in Jaranwala.

Rupee weakens by Rs 3.43 against US Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): Pakistani rupee on Wednesday witnessed a Rs 3.43 devaluation against the US dollar in the interbank trading; closing at Rs 294.93 against the previous day’s closing of Rs 291.50.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs 301.5 and Rs 303.5 respectively.

The price of the Euro increased by Rs 3.98 to close at Rs 322.36 against the last day’s closing of Rs 318.38, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen went up by 3 and closed at Rs 2.02, whereas an increase of Rs 6.32 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs 376.12 as compared to the last closing of Rs 369.80.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal increased by 93 paisa each to close at Rs 80.29 and Rs 78.64 respectively.

LAHORE, Aug 16 (APP):Pakistans pacer Wahab Riaz on Wednesday announced his retirement from international cricket saying he wants to continue his journey at the highest level of cricket but in the present scenario it is impossible to get back a place in the national team.

He said here that for him the retirement brings an end to his “incredible journey” as he enjoyed playing cricket and earn respect.

“ It’s not an emotional decision ( retirement) and it is reality that I can not deliver to a high level in the presence of present day pace battery of Pakistan team.

I have no regrets on calling it a day as I have always tried to give my best “ Wahab Riaz told a news conference.

He further said in the presence of Shaheen Shah Afridi and other top notch fast bowlers he does not see a place for himself in the team and he has decided to part his way with the game except the T20 format.

The left armed 38-year-old said he will continue his association with the game by playing T20 leagues around the world.

“Stepping off the international pitch.

After an incredible journey, I’ve decided to retire from international cricket. Big thank you to PCB, my family, coaches, mentors, teammates, fans, and everyone who supported me,”he said.

Wahab Riaz who made his ODI and T20I debut in 2008 and his first Test appearance came in 2010 said “Exciting times ahead in the world of franchise cricket”.

Wahab Riaz played 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is for Pakistan and claimed more than 200 wickets in international cricket.

During his Test debut against England at The Oval in 2010, Riaz bagged figures of 5 for 63, becoming the ninth Pakistan bowler to claim five wickets on debut.

Wahab Riaz said he has enjoyed playing cricket from Pakistan and achieved a lot from the game and in his career he met success as well as failure.

“ When I started playing cricket long ago it was my dream to represent the country at the highest level of the game and finally achieved it” said Wahab Riaz.

His best performance in ODI cricket was against arch-rivals India, when he took 5 for 46 during the World Cup semi-final in Mohali.

His scalps included the likes of Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni.

Riaz also bowled one of the most memorable spells in Pakistan cricket history, when he bamboozled Australia’s Shane Watson with his pace and bounce during the 2015 World Cup clash in Adelaide.

The pacer played his last international game in December 2020, which was a T20I match against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Wahab Riaz who is the Sports Minister of Punjab said it is hard to say goodbye to cricket at a time when he has focused to play the 2023 World Cup.

“ I am thankful to my family , the Pakistan Cricket Board for their all out support to me and I am leaving the arena with pride and respect “, he added.
