Gold rates up by Rs 900 to Rs 223,800 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold increased by Rs 900 and was sold at Rs 223,800 on Wednesday compared to its sale at Rs 222,900 on the previous day.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also increased by Rs 771 to Rs 191,872 from Rs 191,101 whereas the prices of 10 gram 22 Karat gold went up to Rs 175,883 from Rs 175,176, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained constant at Rs 2750 and Rs2357.68 respectively.

The price of gold in the international market increased by $2 to $1,905 from $1,903, the association reported.

Water level in Mangla Dam rises to its maximum level

MIRPUR (AJK), Aug 16 (APP):Water level in the Mangla dam which was recorded on Wednesday reached very close to its stipulated maximum level.

According to the official sources the water level in the reservoir was recorded as 1241.30 feet against maximum conservation level of 1242 feet with live storage of 7.299 MAF and the minimum operating water level in the dam is 1050 feet.


The inflows of Jhelum River to the reservoir at Mangla were reported 38700 cusecs with the outflows of 10000 cusecs from the reservoir Wednesday, the sources said.


The overall position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages remained on Wednesday as under:-
Rivers: Indus at Tarbela: Inflows 232600 cusecs and Outflows 225100 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 42000 cusecs and Outflows 42000 cusecs, Khairabad Bridge: Inflows 288300 cusecs and Outflow 288300, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 38700 cusecs and Outflows 10000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 74300 cusecs and Outflows 54300 cusecs.

The current situation of Reservoirs (Level and Storage) were, Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1402 feet, present level 1549.28 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 5.768 MAF.


Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1241.30 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 7.299 MAF.


Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 647.00 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.186 MAF.


The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela, Jinnah and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m on Wednesday.

KP Govt bars employees from using social media

PESHAWAR, Aug 16 (APP):The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has barred all government servants from using social media to discuss or share information on issues relating to government business.

A notification issued here by the provincial Establishment department, however, said that if required the concerned official would take prior approval of the administrative secretary, head of the attached department or commission as the case may be.

It said that the decision has been taken under Rule-34(A) of the KP government servant (conduct) rules, 1987, adding that the competent authority has taken cognizance of the various instances wherein the government and civil servants were found participating in discussions on different social media platforms regarding matters about political issues, sectarianism and anti-state activities.

It said that rules 23, 24, 25, 28 and 29 of the KP government servants (conduct) rules, 1987 bar the government servants from expressing their views against the ideology and security of the country and from taking part in any public demonstration directed against a government decision or policy.

Referring to the Rule 25 of the said rules, the notification said that a government servant shall not appear in any programme of electronic media and give statements to print media which could embarrass the federal and provincial governments by any means.

It further said that under rule 21 of the government servants’ rules, no public servant is authorized to communicate directly or indirectly any official information or the contents of any official document to any unauthorized person or government servant, or the press.

The notification addressed to Additional Chief Secretary KP, Senior Members of the Board of Revenue, all administrative secretaries, all divisional commissioners, all deputy commissioners and heads of the attached departments in the province directed strict observance of the mentioned rules to avoid any legal action.

PFA stops working of water filtration plant

LAHORE, Aug 16 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has stopped the working of a water filtration plant over an excessive quantity of arsenic in water.


PFA Director General Raja Jahangir Anwar said on Wednesday that the authority took action against Crystal Water Filtration Plant on Sui Gas Road Shahdara due to quality parameters and failing to present the record of filter change to the raiding team on the spot.


He said that high level of arsenic in water could be extremely harmful to human health because micro-biologically contaminated drinking water causes diseases such as hepatitis, diarrhea, dysentery and cholera.


Raja Jahangir said that strict legal action would be taken against adulterators involved in food adulteration. In order to do food business, it was necessary for food business operators (FBOs) to follow the rules set by the PFA, he added.


He said that PFA’s water safety teams conduct surprise checks of filtration plants to ensure the provision of clean drinking water.


He appealed to the public to keep an eye on adulteration in their surroundings and inform the PFA on 1223- helpline number in case of observing any suspicious activities related to the food.

Police arrested 7 outlaws: NCP goods recovered

Dera Ismail Khan , Aug 16 (APP):The Dera police have conducted successful operations resulting in the seizure of non-customs paid (NCP) items, arrested seven outlaws and drug peddlers and recovered hashish within the jurisdiction of the Daraban police station on Wednesday.

During a routine checkpoint, the police team under the supervision of SHO Daraban police station Abdul Ghaffar Khan intercepted a vehicle with registration number TKC 615 and recovered 37 bundles of non-customs paid tires and 21 bundles of ncp tires recovered from vehicle number TKV 084.Which will be handed over to the higher customs authorities as per orders.
Similarly, during the search and strike operation,teams of police station Daraban checked 40 houses, 5 sensitive places and detained 04 suspects, while Niaz Muhammad son of Ali Muhammad resident of Kot Lalu was arrested and recovered 250 grams of hashish during the search operation.
While Qaiser Khan s/o Khaban Khan resident of Kirri Bakhtiar was arrested and recovered 300 grams of hashish from his possession. Jahanzeb son of Muhammad Nawaz of Mohana was also arrested and 350 grams of hashish recovered from the accused.
Police registered the separate cases against the arrested criminals and started further investigation.

11 prisoners released in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD, Aug 16 (APP):Additional District and Session Judge (AD&SJ) Raja Shahid Zameer on Wednesday released eleven prisoners from Central Jail Faisalabad on their personal surety bonds.
A spokesman to prisons department said that AD&SJ Raja Shahid Zameer along with Civil Judge Sajid Bilal visited Central Jail Faisalabad and directed to release 11 prisoners on their personal surety bonds.

PSX loses 419 points

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend on Wednesday, losing 419.31 points, a negative change of 0.86 per cent, closing at 48,146.44 points against 48,565.75 points the previous trading day.

A total of 194,576,873 shares were traded during the day as compared to 251,692,333 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 7.670 billion against Rs 9.038 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 339 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 88 of them recorded gains and 227 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 24 companies remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were K-Electric Ltd with 19,296,096 shares at Rs 2.28 per share; Dewan Motors with 14,109,099 shares at Rs.15.14 per share and Oil and Gas Dev with 10,957,134 shares at Rs.98.28 per share.

Bata (Pak) witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 44.00 per share price, closing at Rs 1,770.00, whereas the runner-up was Reliance Cotton with an Rs 25.79 rise in its per share price to Rs 488.29.

Allawasaya Tex witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 140.00 per share closing at Rs 1,760.00; followed by Rafhan Maize with Rs 100.00 decline to close at Rs 8,500.00.

SFJ raises £250,000 for 2024 Scotland vote on Khalistan Referendum

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):The Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) pro-Khalistan group has collected £250,000 for a Khalistan Referendum vote in Scotland in 2024 in response to the Indian government’s crackdown on Sikh Khalistani activists in the United Kingdom (UK).

According to a message received here, SFJ has managed to accumulate a substantial Khalistan Campaign Fund (KCF) of £250,000, alongside disclosing their strategy to organize a Khalistan Referendum Voting in Scotland in 2024.


SFJ’s announcement came within three days of UK Security Minister Tom Tugendhat’s visit to India and the UK government’s increased efforts to suppress pro-Khalistan activities.


The Khalistan Referendum is causing seismic effects in India, resembling significant explosions, and the eventual partition of the country is becoming unavoidable,” expressed Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ’s General Counsel. Pannun also noted, “Under UK laws, the obligation to protect the speech and expression rights of the Sikh People falls upon the government of Rishi Sunak.” Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.


Just last week, UK’s Security Minister Tom Tugendhat revealed a fresh funding of £95,000 (approximately Rs 1 crore) to strengthen the country’s ability in countering “pro-Khalistan extremism.”


During his three-day visit to India, Tom Tugendhat, the UK’s Security Minister, discussed this matter with the British High Commission.


They revealed that a £95,000 investment is intended to improve the government’s understanding of the challenges associated with “pro-Khalistan extremism.” This investment will work in tandem with the existing joint efforts between the UK and India through the joint-extremism task force.


In a three-day visit to India, Tom Tugendhat, the UK’s Security Minister, engaged in discussions with the British High Commission. The Commission unveiled a £95,000 investment aimed at enhancing the government’s grasp of the complexities linked to “pro-Khalistan extremism.” This financial commitment will collaborate with the ongoing joint initiatives between the UK and India under the joint-extremism task force.


In the meantime, the Khalistan flag was hoisted at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC, specifically at the Gandhi Statue, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. Looking forward to advancing trade, investment ties with UAE: PM

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday said that he looked forward to working with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on advancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially trade, investment and energy.

The prime minister, in a meeting with the UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, who called on him here, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support for Pakistan’s economic and financial stability.

The ambassador conveyed the greetings of the UAE leadership to the prime minister on his assumption of office.

Prime Minister Kakar thanked the UAE government for the warm congratulatory messages and said that Pakistan and UAE enjoyed historic and deep-rooted fraternal ties.

He also wished the UAE success in hosting the COP28 Summit later this year.

The prime minister also emphasized the important role played by the Pakistani diaspora in the UAE and sought the UAE government’s continued support to them.

Accused of torturing, physical assault held

DG Khan, Aug 16 (APP):Police arrested two accused being booked in a case of torture and physical assault on a citizen here on Wednesday.

According to police, the victim named Mohammed Hussain Ali registered a report with Kot Chota Police Station that the four people namely Saif ur Rehman, Usman, Abdul Aahd and Hafizullah severely tortured him after the kidnap.

Later as per the FIR, the accused subjected him to physical assault and made its video.

Police registered the case with sections 881/ 23 of the criminal law of the constitution before starting the investigation. The rest of the two accused are still at bay whom police trying to arrest, it is said.
