Economy improving due to Govt’s prudent policies: Ishaq Dar
ISLAMABAD, Nov 1 (APP): Minister for Finance, Senator Muhammad
Ishaq Dar has said Pakistan Muslim League-N government, has focused
on overcoming energy crisis, eradicating extremism, and ensuring a
stable economy after coming into power.
“Around 14,000 mega watt electricity would be added to national
grid by 2018 and several power projects have also been launched
including Dasu, Neelam-Jehlum, Basha-Diamer and up-gradation of
Tarbeela Dam,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
Ishaq Dar said the government has increased tax net up to 33
percent, and added there is a dire need of tax reforms in the
system to make it more effective.
“Steps are being taken to make Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)
tax-friendly in order to encourage the masses for paying their
taxes”, he added.
The minister said inflation had come down due to the prudent
policies of the government, besides an increase in foreign reserves.
Ishaq Dar stressed the need for segregating politics from
economy, and added economy ought to be the central point of
politics.
He said the international community now has a positive
perception about Pakistan since its economy was improving.
He said oil prices were lower as compared to India
and other neighbouring countries.
Replying to a question, he said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif had taken major national decisions in consultation with
all political parties to further strengthen democratic process in
the country.
He urged that every citizen should work for the country’s
welfare, progress and prosperity.
Ishaq Dar said visit of Prime Minister to United States was
positive and productive in enhancing bilateral relations, specially
in trade sector.

AIOU to start LLB classes from next year
ISLAMABAD, Nov 1 (APP): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU)
has decided to start LLB classes from August next year, Vice Chancellor
Dr Shahid Siddiqui said.
Inaugurating a new lecture series `Law and Society’ that will be
a part of LLB programme, he said the University was in process of deciding
faculty and course material of LLB programme.
The programme would help producing lawyers of national caliber, he
said adding that a separate space, having special symbolic `Court-Room,’
being set up at University’s main campus, would enable the law students
to acquaint themselves with the actual proceedings of court trial, said a
press release.
Dr Shahid said the University’s Central library is being
equipped with necessary law books, courts’ cases and other relevant
material.
Initially, this programme will be started with a limited number of
students from Rawalpindi and Islamabad region.
The support and guidance of Pakistan Bar Council and members of
legal community would be sought before launching the LLB programme, he
said.
The University will also arrange regular visits of the law students
to Superior courts for their proper professional development and the
country’s renowned lawyers and jurists will be included in the visiting
teaching faculty.
The main aim of the LLB programme is to enhance the respect and academic status of the Mega University, he added.
Senior lawyer of the Supreme Court S A Rehman briefed the University’s senior officers on the occasion about the efficiency and disciplinary rules to ensure transparency and fairness in the official working and civil servants’ enquiry’ process.
University’s Registrar Dr Muhammad Naeem Qureshi and Dean Faculty of
Sciences Dr Syed Abdul Siraj were also present on the occasion.
