Aneeq urges expansion of ‘Road to Makkah’ project, enhanced pilgrim facilities in Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed, on Monday, called for the extension of the ‘Road to Makkah’ project to multiple airports across Pakistan.
He made this appeal during a joint press conference held alongside Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah expressing that the ‘Road to Makkah’ initiative, which streamlines the pilgrimage process for Pakistani pilgrims, had proven highly advantageous for those embarking on the Hajj journey.
Minister Aneeq also advocated for exempting individuals aged 65 and above from mandatory biometric verification for the pilgrimage. He highlighted that this requirement had been causing inconvenience for senior citizens due to issues related to fingerprint recognition.

Furthermore, he suggested exploring alternative locations for the Pakistan House in Madina, which had been dismantled to make way for the expansion of Haram Sharif.
Speaking of the efforts by the Saudi government to provide modern amenities for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, Minister Aneeq praised the superior facilities available to religious visitors. He emphasized Pakistan’s prominent role as a top contributor to Umrah pilgrims worldwide.
He underscored the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, considering the visit of the Saudi Minister for Hajj and Umrah to be an honor for the nation. He attributed the visit to the strong affection held by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for Pakistan.
Both Minister Aneeq Ahmed and his Saudi counterpart, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, stressed the importance of enhancing facilities for Pakistani pilgrims during their stay in Mina and Arafat.
Dr. Al-Rabiah highlighted the crucial discussions that took place during the visit and expressed admiration for the close bond shared between the Pakistani people and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Recognizing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to offering essential services to Pakistani pilgrims, he emphasized the significance of evaluating the quality of facilities provided during the pilgrimage. He also announced Saudi Arabia’s intention to reduce Hajj expenses and extend the visa duration for Umrah pilgrims to 90 days. Additionally, he revealed plans to introduce approximately 100 new historical sites in Makkah and Madinah, enhancing the overall pilgrim experience.
Dr. Al-Rabiah expressed optimism regarding the collaborative efforts between Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and their Saudi counterparts. He conveyed the joint commitment of both nations to ensuring the successful implementation of agreements, including an increase in flight options between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
A bilateral agreement was signed earlier, with officials from both nations expressing confidence that the agreement’s outcomes would soon be disclosed to the public.

QUETTA, Aug 21 (APP):The delegation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) led by former federal minister Maulana Abdul Wasay met with caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki here on Monday.
Former opposition leader Malik Sikander Khan, advocate, former members of the assembly and other members of the party are also included in the delegation.
The delegation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam congratulated Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki on assuming the post of caretaker Chief Minister.
The delegation expressed good wishes for the success of the caretaker Chief Minister.
The caretaker CM said that Allah has entrusted a great responsibility that he sincerely wanted to be relieved of the task of holding clean and transparent elections.

sport of Pakistan besides other sports.
They said that Syed Junaid Ali Shah has always tried to promote sports.
He has taken oath as Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Culture in the Caretaker Cabinet thus completing the hat trick of becoming Caretaker Minister in the Sindh Government.
He has served in the Sindh Cabinet as Health Minister and Sports Minister in the past as well.

PFA unearths fake beverages unit, disposes of 18,800 litre spurious drinks

LAHORE, Aug 21 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday unearthed a fake beverages unit producing carbonated drinks of different popular brands in Jameel Town.
PFA Director General Raja Jahangir Anwar said that the raiding team disposed of 18,800 litre spurious drinks; 1,250kg sugar and 130kg prohibited ingredients besides confiscating 17 cylinders, filling machines, compressors, stove, empty bottles, lids and fake labelling.
Meanwhile, PFA also lodged a first information report (FIR) against the adulteration mafia on account of adulteration and forgery in the nearest police station while handing an accused over to police during the raid.
He said that fabricated fizzy drinks were being prepared with hazardous chemicals, loose non-food grade colours, artificial sweeteners, unclean tap water, and other harmful ingredients while it was preserved in prohibited drums. Non-food-grade plastic bottles and fake labelling were also being used for packing purpose, he added.
The director general further said that fake beverages were to be supplied to the different local shops and hotels in Lahore. The use of spurious drinks causes health problems for consumers’ especially senior citizens and children, he said.
Moreover, he said that the adulteration mafia would be dealt with an iron hand. He added that PFA is utilizing all available resources to root out the menace of fake beverages from Punjab.
He said that citizens can complain regarding food safety issues, adulteration mafia and unhygienic food points on the 1223 helpline number of PFA, website or PFA Facebook account.

Sindh Govt decides to take action against dacoits, street criminals

KARACHI, Aug 21 (APP): The Caretaker Sindh Cabinet in its maiden meeting on Monday decided to take strict measures for controlling law & order, particularly action against dacoits in the Katcha area and street criminals in Karachi.

Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar presided over the cabinet’s introductory meeting, which was attended by caretaker ministers Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz, Younus Dhaga, Mubeen Juamni, Dr Saad khalid, Dr Junaid Shah, Mrs Rana Hussain, Ishwar Lal, Arshad Wali Muhammad, Omar Soomro and Khuda Bux Marri.

At the outset, the caretaker chief minister said he had an agenda for good governance and service to the people of Sindh, besides supporting the Election Commission of Pakistan for carrying out its work.

Justice Baqar said in the aftermath of the floods, poverty had increased manifold in the province and concrete measures were needed to tackle it.

He said the caretaker government was apolitical. “We are not here to raise fingers of accusation against others, but we will try to improve the governance to serve the people and support the Election Commission of Pakistan in their assignment,” he added.

Justice Baqar said there was a need of promoting enter-faith harmony in the province. The people of different faiths and beliefs had lived together there, but anti-state elements were trying to create law and order by igniting religious hatred and “we must stop it”.

As it was pointed out that the dacoits had developed the sway in the Katcha area, the cabinet decided to launch an operation against the criminals. The home minister was directed to chalk out a plan in consultation with the police and other law enforcement agencies so that a well-coordinated clean-up operation against the dacoits could be launched.

The cabinet members observed that due to some ongoing development works in the city traffic jam issues cropped up during the peak hours, therefore the traffic police was directed to manage traffic flow properly.

The cabinet after a thorough discussion decided to expedite work on the ongoing development schemes, and to accelerate work on the foreign-funded projects so that they could be completed well in time.

It was pointed out that the people from far-flung areas visited government offices in Karachi and in their respective districts where their problems were not being resolved. The chief minister directed all the ministers, particularly of the Revenue, Local Government, Police, and Health to direct their respective departments to make their offices functional and public-oriented everywhere.

The cabinet expressed satisfaction that Sindh had become polio free from the last two years but the virus was still alive in different areas. The Health Minister was urged to take necessary measures to make this province free from the crippling disease of polio.

The chief minister directed all the caretaker ministers to prepare presentations of their respective departments for him so that decisions could be taken for public interest accordingly.

Caretaker PM thanks KSA leadership for facilitating Pakistani pilgrims

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday thanked the Saudi leadership for making excellent arrangements for Hujjaj from all over the world during the Hajj season, particularly for the Pakistani pilgrims.

He expressed the hope that Pakistani Hajj and Umrah pilgrims would continue to receive special treatment from the Saudi side.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with Minister of Hajj & Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Al Rabiah who called on him, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Caretaker PM thanks KSA leadership for facilitating Pakistani pilgrims

The prime minister expressed satisfaction on the positive trajectory of bilateral relations with the Kingdom and lauded the vision of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, adding that Pakistan would always  remain a trusted partner of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Minister is leading a high-level delegation with members from the Saudi ministry of foreign affairs, interior, Saudi civil aviation authority, communication, tourism, etc. The visit is the first by a Minister of Hajj and Umrah to Pakistan.

The caretaker prime minister also thanked Saudi Arabia for its serious interest in investment opportunities in Pakistan under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The Saudi minister thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and members of his delegation.

He said Saudi Arabia would extend all possible facilitation to Pakistani pilgrims, adding that in addition to religious visits, the delegation would also try to promote Saudi tourism to Pakistan.

Chairman NDMA reviews damages caused by ongoing floods in Sutlej River

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik on Monday reviewed the situation of damages caused by the ongoing floods in Sutlej River, the situation of major Dams, and the regulation of river flows during the ongoing monsoon spell.

The NDMA Chairman presided special National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) session with key stakeholders on the current flood and monsoon situation, a news release said.

The session was attended by representatives of Armed Forces, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Federal Flood Commission (FFC), Provincial, State, and Gilgit Baltistan Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs, SDMA, GBDMA), Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Commission (SUPARCO), Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Waters (PCIW), Rescue 1122 Punjab, Tarbela and Mangla Dam Management.

The PMD briefed about the previous days’ rainfall observed in the country. They also apprised about the expected rainfall in the North Eastern parts of the country from August 23 to 25.

The PDMA Punjab and Rescue 1122 Punjab briefed about the evacuation, rescue, and relief efforts conducted along the Sutlej River.

The FFD reported that Sulemanki headworks would attain a very high flood level by 22 August and a peak in the flow of River Jehlum will be observed from 23 to 25 August which will affect the Mangla dam levels.

The Mangla and Tarbela Dam management briefed that the water level in dams and contingency measures are in place.

The PCIW briefed about the mechanism in place for information sharing between Pakistan and Indian dam management.

The Chairman NDMA instructed relevant departments to carry out flood damage assessment and gather accurate data.

He also instructed PDMAs, GBDMA, and SDMA to increase awareness among the masses about the remedial measures to be taken during the season and to monitor the changing situation vigilantly.

He reiterated that the settlements and encroachments in river beds of all major rivers must be cleared by all concerned to minimize the damages.

Zaka Ashraf meets Pakistan team in Hambantota ahead of Afghanistan series

LAHORE, Aug 21 (APP):Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, had a meeting with the Pakistan men’s cricket team before their first One-Day International against Afghanistan in Hambantota on Monday.
On this occasion, Chairman Management Committee PCB addressed the team, stating, “I have great hope that with your efforts and hard work, Pakistan will win the Asia Cup. After securing victory, I am sure you will carry this momentum and confidence in the World Cup, bringing the World Cup trophy back home.”
“This team under our great captain [Babar Azam] is performing really well. He has a talented team, and they are all performing in their respective roles. We have world-class batters and bowlers on the side. We have a good combination and I don’t find any reason why we should not win this trophy.”
He also stated that former cricketers from Pakistan and around the world were backing Pakistan as favourites for the Asia Cup because of their current form. He further told the players, “All of you are capable enough to beat. We have won the World Cup before and secured the Asia Cup twice. There is no reason to believe we cannot do it again. Show your best performance on the field. Best wishes are with you.”
Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan with the first match set to be played on 22 August. The series will conclude on 26 August before the team travels back to Pakistan to take play the opening match of the Asia Cup against Nepal on August 30.

National Club defeats Civil Tigers

KARACHI, Aug 21 (APP):Two more matches were decided in the ongoing 8th Essa Lab Trophy Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament at the International Abdul Nasser Basketball Court.
In these matches Hassan Ali of Arambagh Club, Henry and Rauf Malik of National Club played great game, a communique said.
In the first match, National Club defeated Civil Tigers Club by 42-36 points. For the winners National Club, Rauf Malik played a great game with the help of 4 three-pointers, Anas Azhar scored 10 points and Usman Khalid scored 8 points, while Mohammad Daniyal Khan scored 12 points, Mohammad Muaz Ashraf scored 10 points and Haris Shahid scored 10 points for the Civil Tigers Club.
In the second match, Aram Bagh Club easily defeated Romance Club by 64-48 points.
On behalf of the winning team, Hasan Ali played a great game and scored 24 points with the help of 5 three-pointers, Henry scored 20 points with the help of 3 three-pointers and Abdul Samad scored 10 points, while Usman Sr. scored 16 points on behalf of the runner team, Muaz Zuberi scored 8 and Yamin Khan scored 6 points.
In these matches Rajkumar, Michael Turner and Aamir Sharif were the referees while Zahid Malik, Naeem Ahmed, Zaima Khatun and Mumtaz Ahmed performed the duties of technical officials.
