Ali Mardan Domki arrives Sibi, express commitment to resolve public issues

SIBI, Aug 20 (APP):Caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki Sunday said that the restoration of Pinjra Bridge on the Quetta-Sibi highway on a permanent basis was the first priority of the government.
The Caretaker Chief Minister paid an official visit to Sibi and attended a ceremony held at Circuit House whereas a large number of dignitaries and citizens participated in the event.
The caretaker chief minister was urged to take up the water and electricity shortage issues with the federal government.
Ali Mardan said, “He will visit every district and get knowledge of public issues which would share with Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar for an immediate solution.”
The chief minister said he intended to seek the support of the prime minister for the dualization of Bolan to Dera Allah Yar highway.
He said the interim setup would ensure the establishment of a peaceful and conducive environment for holding general transparent elections, according to their mandate.
Ali Mardan said the interim government would not exceed the guidelines of the election commission.
CM said the government would work hard to resolve issues and would improve the performance of education and health departments.
He said all available resources would be utilized for the welfare of the people and would ensure protection for religious minorities.
Ali Mardan Domki revealed, “He will hold open courts in CM Secretariat and districts to resolve the public issue on a priority basis.”
The CM instructed all Assistant and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the province to set up open courts in their respective areas and submit the progress reports to the Chief Minister’s office.

EPA imposes fine of Rs 15 mln over violations of Smog, Dengue SOPs

RAWALPINDI, Aug 20 (APP):Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Rawalpindi in its drive against violations of Smog and Dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) imposed a fine of Rs 152,90,500 from January 1 to date in various areas of the district.
According to an EPA spokesman, the department teams in collaboration with Regional Transport Authority and Traffic Police checked 3,812 vehicles and issued tickets to 3,378 emitting smoke beyond the prescribed limits of Punjab’s environmental quality standards.
The teams also impounded 254 vehicles and imposed a fine of  Rs 23,20,500 on the charges of polluting the environment.
Similarly, Deputy Director EPA Maria Safeer while taking action against polluting brick kilns imposed a fine of Rs 100,00,00 on 169 kilns over violations of the Smog Act.
EPA teams also inspected 56 hospitals and issued notices to 45 for not following the SOPs regarding the disposal of hospital waste.
The spokesman informed that during the checking of 45 industrial units, notices were issued to four units and a fine of Rs 170,000 was imposed over violations.
Meanwhile, EPA in its ongoing anti-dengue drive inspected 6500 sites, issued notices to 60, lodged FIRs against 43, and confiscated 103 tyres in different areas of the district during 2023 where SOPs regarding dengue prevention were not being followed.

DC directs authorities to accelerate anti-encroachment operation to clear city markets

RAWALPINDI, Aug 20 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema has directed the authorities concerned to accelerate ongoing anti-encroachment operation to clear city markets.
According to a district administration spokesman, the DC during a visit to Raja Bazaar reviewed the progress in ongoing grand anti-encroachment operation launched to clear the city’s commercial areas.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue (ADCR) Nabeel Riaz Sindhu, AC City Zanira Aftab, Municipal Officer Rawalpindi, Imran Ali and other administrative officers who were present on this occasion were directed to accelerate operations to clear city commercial areas, the spokesman said and informed that the operation against encroachments was going on in the adjacent areas of Iqbal Road, Liaquat Road, Fawara Chowk, Bara Bazar, Old Vegetable Market and other areas.
The decision to clear the encroachments from commercial areas was made at a meeting held with the representatives of the business community, he said.
Before the anti-encroachment operation, all the shopkeepers were also issued notices, he informed.
Strict action in accordance with the law would be taken against those found involved in encroachments particularly in such areas where the encroachments were removed, he added.

942 power pilferers nabbed in recent month

MULTAN, Aug 20 (APP):Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) have caught 942 power pilferers during separate operations launched throughout the South Punjab in current month so far, MEPCO official said on Sunday.
MEPCO teams accompanying task forces raided different places in Multan, Vehari, Sahiwal, Rahimyar Khan, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, and Dera Ghazi Khan and detected theft of 14,26,000 electricity units.
A sum of over Rs 43.7 million fine was imposed on the pilferers while FIRs were registered against 27 of them over Involvement in tampering with the body of meters, direct supply, Installing loop in meters, slowing down meters, meter dead stop and meter screen wash.

CDA pursues upgradation of urban amenities, infrastructure

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP):The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking concrete steps for ensuring the provision of urban facilities to the city dwellers and maintenance of infrastructure including the installation of street lights, road carpeting, and resolving water-related issues, neglected in the past.
“Special attention is being given to the completion of the remaining development works in the sectors I, G, H and D series, provision of civic facilities, and facilitating the home builders in these sectors in pursuance of the directives of Chairman CDA Noor ul Amin Mengal,” an official told APP.
“The work of installation of streetlights in the main roads and within the sectors to ensure proper lighting management in Sector I-11, I-10, I-14 and Sector I-16, D-12, and other sectors is in full swing,” he added.
To a question, the official said, “After a few months of delay due to legal complications, the authority has started work to install street lights in Sector D-12.”
He said that the work on this project was initially halted when a contractor, who failed to secure the contract, filed a case in court.
“As a result, the project was put on hold indefinitely. However, the legal issues have now been resolved, including concerns regarding price escalation.”
Now, the official said, “The contractor of the project has assured the CDA that the project will be completed within the next three months.”
He said, “The lack of street lights in Sector D-12 has contributed to a recent increase in street crimes, prompting residents to raise the issue with the relevant authorities.”

Rs2m approved for each affected family of Jaranwala: CM

FAISALABAD, Aug 20 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Rs.2 million was approved as compensation for each Christian family affected by riots in Jaranwala three days ago.
Addressing a meeting at ACE Church Isa Nagri Jaranwala here on Sunday, he said that Pakistan was a motherland for every Pakistani including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Hindus and the government would support and help every oppressed person. He said that he along with his cabinet members had come here to express solidarity with the Christian community as the Jaranwala incident was a major tragedy for all.
“My team had been working for the last three days for early rehabilitation of affected families. In this connection, it had a number of meetings with the Christian community and the government promised to provide justice to the affectees at every cost”, he added.
He said that the Secretary Communication and Works along with his team had started work for the rehabilitation of the churches yesterday and two churches had so far been fully restored while restoration work of the rest of the churches was in full swing.
He announced that he would not take rest until all the churches were completely restored although he had to visit Jaranwala repeatedly for the purpose. He said that the government had promised to restore all churches affected in the Jaranwala incident to their original condition and this work would definitely be completed on a war-footing according to the will and aspiration of Christian people. “Complete rehabilitation of Christian affectees and provision of justice to them was not just a statement but it would be seen obviously as a real action,” he assured.
He said that Islam had taught us to protect the rights of non-Muslims. “The letter of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) which he wrote to the Christian community was a beacon for us.
“In this letter, the Muslims were instructed to take care of the rights of the Christian community and this order remained in force till the Day of Judgment. Therefore, it was our religious obligation to follow the commandment given to us by our beloved Holy Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) because it was the greatest commandment for us,” he added.
On this occasion, the caretaker Chief Minister urgently called a meeting of his cabinet inside the church and the cabinet secretary presented its one-point agenda for financial assistance to compensate the affectees of the Jaranwala tragedy.
The meeting unanimously approved a financial assistance of Rs.2 million for each affected family and the caretaker Chief Minister announced the provision of cheques of financial aid to the affectees within the next couple of days.
Earlier, the Punjab Chief Minister along with all provincial ministers reached the AEC Church in Isa Nagri and participated in a prayer ceremony to express solidarity with the Christian community. A special prayer was also offered in the church for the integrity, solidarity, progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
Ground floor of the AEC Church has been opened for worship after completing its rehabilitation and renovation.
Provincial Minister Kamran Michael, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Bishop Azad Marshall, Church pastor Salim Arif, leading personalities of the Christian community, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Secretaries, Divisional Commissioner Faisalabad, RPO, CPO and Deputy Commissioner were also present.

Churches security beefed up in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Aug 20 (APP):The security of churches has been further beefed up here Sunday on the special directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Mehmood Hamdani.
According to the police spokesman, Divisional Superintendents of Police, SDPOs and SHOs checked security at churches in their respective areas and briefed the police personnel deployed there.
CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani said that while ensuring the security of the people coming to the churches for worship, they should be treated with good manners. Rawalpindi Police is using all possible resources to protect the lives and properties of the citizens, he added.

KP Hot, humid weather with isolated rain, gusty winds likely to persist in KP

PESHAWAR, Aug 20 (APP):The Provincial Meteorological Center Sunday predicted mainly hot, humid, and partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the province.
However, it said that scattered rain-thunderstorm associated with gusty winds is likely to occur over Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Shangla, Upper & Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera districts.
Isolated rain-thunderstorms associated with gusty winds are also likely to occur over Kohistan, Chitral, Bajaur, Mohmand, Charsadda, Peshawar, Khyber, Kohat, and Hangu districts.
During the last 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed in most districts of the province. However, rain-thunderstorms occurred in Swat and Khyber districts. Rain recorded (in mm): Kalam 08 and Tirah Khyber Trace.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in °C at different stations of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): Peshawar City 37/28, Chitral 35/19, Timergara 36/23, Dir 33/19, Mirkhani 38/16, Kalam 27/09, Drosh 37/23, Saidu Sharif 34/22, Pattan 38/27, Malam Jabba 22/14, Takht Bhai 36/27, Kakul 30/21, Balakot 35/21, Parachinar 31/15, Bannu 39/26, Cherat 28/16, D.I. Khan 40/29.
The highest temperature recorded in the province was 40°c in Dera Ismail Khan.
