Pakistan Army, LUMHS organised medical camp in Matiari district

HYDERABAD, Aug 26 (APP):The doctors of Pakistan Army and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, set up a free medical camp in a Basic Health Unit of Saeedabad taluka of Matiari district on Saturday.
An official of LUMHS informed that the doctors at the camp attended around 3,000 patients who were also given free medicines and drinking water bottles.
According to him, a majority of the patients reported health issues like diarrhea, fever and skin ailments.
The official said quoting the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram Din Ujjan that the university frequently set up such camps in different parts of the province especially the areas where the people did not have access to quality healthcare.

Two killed, 10 injured on road

KASUR, Aug 26 (APP):Two brothers were killed and 10 others injured in an accident near here
on Saturday.
The Rescue 1122 said a speeding coaster (passenger van) collided with a truck
near Steel Morr, killing Naeen Sarwar and Nadeem Sarwar instantly and
injuring 10 others.
The injured were identified as Noor Fatima, Ummhe Habiba, Sakila, Mansha, Ghulam Fatima,
Fasial Jameel, Matloob and Allah Wasya who were shifted to the Bulleh Shah District Hospital.
Police reached the spot and started investigation.

Mother, son drown in Chitral River

CHITRAL, Aug 26 (APP)::A mother and son from Kaju Bala, Chitral lower, drowned in Chitral River when they returning home after working in the fields in the evening.
According to detail, the search operation began but the mother and son could not be found, the officials of the Rescue-1122 rescue and driver teams confirmed.
“We have tried our hardest to find out both the mother and her son but due to darkness and speedy flow of the river, we could not succeed to find them,” the head of the Rescue-1122 team told the media persons.

KARACHI, Aug 26 (APP):Former Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf on Saturday said, it was the time to embrace technology and adopt new ways of doing business.
While addressing as a chief guest at Brands of Year Awards Ceremony at a local hotel, he focused on the importance of businesses in making great contribution towards economy of Pakistan.
According to a communique, he said it’s very encouraging to see that business community is playing its role in the betterment of the country. Ashraf reiterated that times have changed. He said that previously one has to sell by going to the market physically and find customers but now this can be done through click of button.
Ashraf said that he has also made it mandatory that such IT skills should be taught to young people in his constituency so that employment can be generated.
He said that the government is willing to extend its full support to businesses of various categories so that foreign exchange can be generated which will generate employment considering the fact that even in developed countries only 4% of employment can be generated by public sector otherwise it will end in loss making entities adding burden on National exchequer.
Later, he distributed awards to brands of different categories.

MQM-P urge govt to lower electricity rates, fuel prices

HYDERABAD, Aug 26 (APP):The former lawmakers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have expressed concern over the hike in electricity bills,the prevalent problem of delayed bills and urged the government to withdraw the recent hike in units.
In a statement issued here on Saturday the former MNAs Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani and Salahuddin said besides making electricity very expensive, up to 10 to 12 hours of load shedding was also being carried out, affecting domestic, commercial and industrial consumers.
They deplored that instead of ensuring that the meter reading of exactly, the meter readers of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) take readings of extra days.
They reiterated that the complaints about the burnt or defective transformers were not timely addressed and the consumers had to pay from their pockets to get the tranformers repaired even though HESCO’s stated policy was that the company was reposonsible for the repair and replacement.
The legislators said the expensive electricity at the time when the country and its people were reeling from inflation only multiplied woes of the people.They requested the government to withdraw the recent hike in the price of units and to address the services related issues of the power distribution companies like HESCO.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP): Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi along with Federal Secretary of the Power Division Rashid Mahmood Langrial held a media briefing on Saturday to explain the current state of electricity tariffs.

At the outset of the briefing with anchorpersons and bureau chiefs from various media outlets, the minister acknowledged the difficulties faced by the people due to the escalating electricity prices.

In response, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar had called a high-level meeting on Sunday to address concerns related to electricity pricing, he added.

He said all stakeholders within the power sector would participate in the meeting.

The Secretary of the Power Division informed the media that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) determined electricity tariffs using three distinct methodologies.

The three-month tariff adjustment was meant for new power plants, he said, adding electricity prices were subject to fluctuations based on the Consumer Price Index.

Moreover, he elaborated on the necessity of tariff alterations due to the upsurge in KIBOR rates. However, fuel price adjustments also impacted electricity costs.

In the fiscal year 2023, the tariff was initially set at Rs 195 per dollar, but the value of the dollar surged to Rs284.
“We initially aimed to set the price of RNLG at Rs 3,183 per MMBTU, however, the actual price ranged between Rs 3,000 and Rs 3,800,” he noted.

Similarly, the secretary said the price range for imported coal fell between Rs 51,000 and Rs 61,000 per metric ton.
He further disclosed that a staggering Rs 2 trillion would be exclusively allocated to capacity payments in the upcoming year.

The increase in electricity tariffs predominantly affected consumers utilizing more than 400 units, he said, adding the tariff remained unchanged for 63.5 per cent of domestic consumers.

For 31.6 per cent of domestic consumers, he said electricity prices saw an uptick of up to Rs 6.5 per unit.
Notably, a tariff of Rs 7.5 per unit was only applied to 4.9 per cent of domestic consumers, he added.

Langrial asserted that the average tariff increase for domestic consumers stood at Rs 3.82.

“In July 2022, the highest recorded electricity tariff was Rs 31.02 per unit,” he affirmed, also revealing that by August
2023, the price had increased to only Rs 33.89 per unit.

He confirmed that the facility of free electricity units to DISCO officers would be discontinued, emphasizing that the burden was not being transferred to regular bill-paying individuals.

 

 

Cops trained to work efficiently at minority facilitation desks in Hyderabad Range

HYDERABAD, Aug 26 (APP):The cops assigned to work at the ‘Minority Facilitation Desks’ in each of the nine districts in Hyderabad Police Range underwent a 2-day orientation training which concluded here on Saturday.
While addressing the concluding event DIG Peer Muhammad Shah said the minority community was an integral part of the social fabric.
“Their safety and prosperity is intertwined with the nation’s progress,” he underlined.The DIG reaffirmed that safeguarding the rights and honor of minorities was not only a legal obligation but a moral duty as well.”It resonates with the principles on which Pakistan was founded,” he observed. Kashif Bajeer of Civil Society Support Program (CSSP), which collaborated with the the DIG office in organizing the training, informed that 75 policemen took part in the program.
According to him, the officials underwent specialized training on the roles and functions of the desks to effectively address and resolve issues concerning minority rights.
Bajeer offered insights into the referral mechanism, reporting protocols, media updates and district SSP control room reports to foster efficient communication between the Hyderabad Range office and district SSP offices.
Noor Mohammad Bajeer, Chief Executive of CSSP, acknowledged the pivotal responsibility of the cops working at the desks in safeguarding the minorities. Bajeer expressed optimism about amplifying the desk’s efficacy through trainings.Wahid Sangrasi, Head of CSSP, discussed the interpretation of the constitution’s Articles 8 to 22 which pertained to safeguarding minority rights and guiding responses to complaints.
Later, the DIG along with other representatives of the non-governmental organizations distributed certificates to the trained participants.

Security institutions, faith leaders defeat Indian designs of religious instigation in Pakistan: Ashrafi

SARGODHA, August 26 (APP):Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi on Saturday said the national security institutions and faith leaders from both the Muslim and Christian communities had successfully defeated the Indian nefarious designs aimed at fomenting religious discord in Pakistan.
Addressing a cross-denominational harmony conference, organized by the district peace committee, he said as per reports, there had been active involvement by certain hostile forces from India to incite unrest among Muslim, Christian, and Shia-Sunni communities within Pakistan.
Ashrafi who is also the President of the International Interfaith Harmony Council informed that before the Jaranwala tragedy, the national security agencies in collaboration with religious scholars and leaders of all schools of thought countered these nefarious plans in Sargodha, Sialkot and other cities.
He said the criminals behind the Jaranwala incident were expected to be exposed soon. “Although specific details are yet to be disclosed, it can be confirmed that even in Jaranwala, there exists a malevolent intent backed by anti-Pakistan ideologies and external support to instigate religious turmoil,” he added.
Ashrafi expressed appreciation to the religious scholars, leaders, and administrative personnel for their successful efforts in foiling conspiracies designed to create interfaith and intra-faith disharmony in the country.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti remarked, “Sargodha embodies tranquillity, and collectively, we strive to uphold this peaceful ambience.”
Regional Police Officer Shariq Kamal Siddiqui conveyed that over the last five days, 64 complaints were lodged regarding controversial content on social media across various districts in Punjab. He highlighted that the intention behind such acts was to disrupt harmony and sow discord among the people of Pakistan.
He emphasized that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, remained watchful and actively engaged in quelling such adversaries within the nation.
A spokesman for Churches Pakistan, Amail Khokhar articulated that the demise of an individual equates to the loss of all of humanity. He expressed, “We must heed the divine, bridge differences, and foster affection to ensure tranquillity pervades every corner of our nation.”
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Shoaib Ali extended a warm welcome to all the attendees as he delivered the inaugural address.
Member of Provincial Assembly Tahir Naveed Chaudhry, members of the Christian community, religious scholars from various sects, professors, and individuals from diverse walks of life also participated in the event.

CM visits DHQ Kasur, reviews healthcare facilities

LAHORE, Aug 26 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday visited the District Headquarters  (DHQ) Hospital Kasur and reviewed medical facilities being provided to patients.
He inspected emergency, child ward and various other and inquired after health of patients
and inquired from them about medical facilities.
Mohsin Naqvi also inquired from the patients and attendants about provision of free medicines. The patients expressed their satisfaction over the provision of facilities in the hospital. Attendants of the patients complained about overcharging of parking.
The CM ordered the MS to immediately redress overcharging complaints. He asserted that no negligence would be tolerated regarding the provision of free medicines to patients.
The poor like the rich should be equally provided quality treatment facilities. He remarked that his visits to hospitals would continue for the provision of quality healthcare facilities to the common man.
