American Business Council celebrates first ESG Excellence Awards

KARACHI, Sep 02 (APP):The American Business Council (ABC) in Pakistan announced the 1st Annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Awards ceremony to commemorate companies that have made strides in sustainability and social impact.
The winners included Coca Cola Pakistan (Environment – Nature Saviour), Pepsico (Environment – Response to Climate Change), PMI (Social), KFC (Social) and McDonald’s (Environment), said a news release on Saturday.
With more than 60 member companies that are US-backed, ABC’s network contributes about $1 billion in taxes annually and employs over 1 million Pakistanis.
This event was attended by 100+ of the leading multinational CEOs, business leaders, government officers, and climate change experts. Senator Fawzia Arshad was the chief guest.
She said, “The alarming rise of climate disasters in our country can only be mitigated if the private sector and the public sector work together. This is not a one institution job.”
Present at the award ceremony were President of the ABC, Jamshed Safdar, ABC’s Chair for ESG committee Fahad Ashraf, USAID Senior Partnerships Adviser to the Mission Kanwal Bokharey, previous chairman of Karachi Port Trust, Tariq Huda, Amber Rahim Shamsi, Director at IBA university’s CEJ office, former Federal Minister for Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam and Economic Unit Chief US Counsel General, Leah Severino.
The awards were applauded by trade associations and chambers including KCCI and OICCI.
A panel of expert judges that chose the winners included notable environmentalist Afia Salam, Nazifa Butt, Senior Manager Climate and Energy Program at WWF-Pakistan, Simi Kamal, chairperson of Hissar Foundation, Shaista Ayesha, CEO SEED Ventures, Syed Omar Public Affairs director of CCI, and Babar Aziz Bhatti, CEO Green Earth.
A panel discussion on ESG challenges was part of this session where experts from respective fields shared their insights on the significance of ESG in today’s corporate world.
ABC Senior Vice President and head of its ESG Subcommittee, and Vice President of Coca Cola Pakistan, Fahad Ashraf: “Businesses have been committed to collectively accelerating Pakistan’s Climate change vision. We feel real change happens when we have a positive ecosystem that rewards good social actions by corporates. Which is why we decided to recognise impactful work to inspire others for similar change.”

PFA disposes off over 2000 bottles unhygienic drinks

BUREWALA, Sep 02 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) have raided at a fake beverages manufacturing plant located at suburb village 557/EB and disposed off over 2000 bottles of unhygienic juices in the name of well-known national brand.
PFA team on receiving information, raided at a fake beverage plant and recovered thousands of litres fake drinks, label, empty bottles and chemicals used in manufacturing. The plant was also seized and further legal action launched.
The bottles of unhealthy juices were being supplied into various cities.

Rescue-1122 recovers two bodies drowned in Swat River, search for one missing continue

DIR LOWER, Sep 02 (APP):The officials of the Rescue-1122 Dir Lower have recovered two bodies of the three persons who drowned in River Swat on Friday, last.
After a long search, the officials of Rescue-1122 managed to recover the bodies of two of the three people who drowned in the Swat River.
The teams of Rescue-1122 Lower Dir continued the rescue operation in Swat River for the second day as well. Three youth belonging to Kalangi in Swat River on Friday, the body of one of the three youth was recovered by the rescue team last night and handed over to the family members while the two youth were being searched.
The search operation was continued wherein the body of another young man, Abuzar, was also recovered from the Swat River.

Aneeq Ahmed urges media to launch awareness drive of Turberculosis

KARACHI, Sep 02 (APP):Interim Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmoney Aneeq Ahmed while deploring the presense of Tuberculosis in the country, on Saturday, urged the media owners to launch an awareness campaign of Tuberculosis (TB) to get rid of the disease from the country.
He said that unfortunately the disease still existed in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
While speaking in a programme on Tuberculosis at a hotel here, the Minister said that the media had a significant role in creating awarenss among the people. He said that the media owners should play their part in this regard.
Ahmed said that the people should be made aware of the diseases including TB.
He said, ‘Good social behavours and attitudes are vital along with prayers’.
He said that the country was facing many challenges and everything had been commercialized in the society.
The Minister said that the average age of the people around the world was increasing due to the provision of best facilities to them.
He said that Pakistan also could be made that country, where people could breath in neat and clean environment.
Ahmed said that the country needed comprehensive steps to provide a better environment to the people
