Drug smuggling bid foiled,4kg heroin recovered

KASUR, Sep 1 (APP):B-Division police foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs and recovered four kilograms of heroine worth millions of rupees from the possession of accused here on Friday.
Talking to APP,police said that on the direction of District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Aziz Sindhu,the team led by
Station House Officer (SHO) Waheed Arif conducted a successful operation. The team set up a picket at Rasoolpura bypass and arrested the accused Muhammad Hussain r/o Mabokey village,Kasur
Police recovered 4-kg heroin from his possession.
Police registered a case and launched investigation.

CDNS attains Rs210 billion targets in fresh bonds

ISLAMABAD, Sep 1 (APP):The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) has attained target of Rs210 billion in fresh bonds in the current fiscal year, from July 1st to August 31th, 2023-24.
The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) surpassed the annual target and achieved the target of Rs 1.6 trillion in fresh bonds in the current fiscal year from July 1st to June 30th, 2022-23, the senior official of CDNS told APP here on Friday.
This is Rs 200 billion additional annual target than the target of Rs1300 billion for the previous financial year 2021-22, he said.
“The CDNS has set a reviewed saving target of Rs 1.4 trillion for the current financial year (2021-22) which will “promote the savings culture in the country,” he said.
In view of the current market trend in the country, the ambitious target had been set to further improve the savings culture, he said.
“He said that at present, work was being done on institutional reforms in CDNS and new reforms and innovations were being introduced.”He said, “At this time Automated Teller Machine (ATM) has also been introduced in CDNS which will provide enough facilities to the users.”
Replying to a question, he said the CDNS has collected an investment of Rs16 billion in the month of July 2023-24 through Islamic investment bonds.
The directorate has set a target of Rs 75 billion for the new financial year 2023-24 for Islamic finance bonds, he said.
Replying to a question, he said the CDNS’s aim was to introduce new dimensions in the Islamic finance sector.He informed that CDNS had reviewed and set a target of Rs 60 billion in the fiscal year (2022-23) for Islamic investment to introduce the new products in the market.
“Islamic finance has a very important role in the global financial sector at this time, and a large part of the economy of many major countries currently includes Islamic finance,” he said.

Interior Minister reiterates resolve for elimination of terrorism from country

KARACHI, Sep 01 (APP): Caretaker Interior Minister Senator Sarfaraz Bugti Friday while reiterating the resolve for the elimination of terrorism from the country said that all possible measures would be taken for maintaining peace to achieve the goals of development and prosperity of the nation.

The minister, while addressing the passing out Ceremony of Pakistan Coast Guard’s 43rd Basic Recruit Training Course here, said that valiant nations face difficult situations gallantly and Pakistani nation’s unwavering resolve against violence and terrorism could not be shattered.

“Terrorists wanted to impose their extremist ideology on 240 million people of Pakistan by violence and acts of intimidation but we will not surrender and encounter all forms and manifestations of violence with courage and unity,” he vowed and urged that the entire nation should demonstrate unity in the war against terrorism and bust the nefarious designs of anti-Pakistan forces.

Sarfraz Bugti expressing condolence to the families of Jawans of the Pakistan Army who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty said, “The entire nation is proud of unmatched sacrifices of valiant armed forces and law enforcement agencies for the safe, secure, and prosperous future of Pakistan.”

“Sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan Army, para-military forces, Police, Levies, and people of Pakistan in the war against terrorism will be remembered forever,” he maintained.

The interior minister said, “The government envisions Balochistan as the future of Pakistan and a peaceful Balochistan is a beacon of hope for strong Pakistan as this vast province was bestowed with precious natural resources and could attain the status of the jugular vein in the economy of the country.”

Unfortunately, some terrorist elements and their anti-state activities were not only obstructing the development of the province but they were also trying to delude the youth, he noted.

He said, “Their malicious designs will not succeed.”

Commending Pakistan Coast Guard’s efforts and endeavor to make the country’s coastline safe and secure, the minister said that PCG in collaboration with Pakistan Army and civil armed forces was striving hard to maintain law and order in the entire coastal belt particularly in Balochistan and over 50 jawans of PCG had laid their lives for maintaining peace and foil the nefarious designs of the enemy.

“The situation has greatly ameliorated and trade and economic activities were flourishing in coastal areas due to the efforts of PCG,” he observed.

“PCG has successfully accomplished with professional excellence important responsibilities of prevention of smuggling of drugs, movement of illegal immigrants and activities of anti-state elements and terrorists.”

The coast guard, during various actions against smugglers in the previous year, forfeited 18000 tons of drugs worth millions of dollars in the international market besides other contraband items worth Rs1000 million, the minister informed.

About 400 illegal immigrants were also captured in the period while a number of criminals were taken to task, he added.

The PCG also played a remarkable role in serving the local communities of the coastal belt by taking an active part in the repair and renovation of schools, provision of clean drinking water, and arranging free medical camps, Sarfaraz Bugti highlighted.

He said that PCG also conducted rescue operations during flood situations and not only evacuated stranded populations to safer areas but also provided food supplies.

The minister said that recognizing the important role of PCG the government provided the organization with state of a art communication system, necessary equipment, and arms while several measures were taken as well for the welfare of PCG personnel and officers.

The minister also announced at the occasion that steps would be taken for the addition of a 15% special allowance in salaries of PCGs like FC.

Earlier, Director General (DG) of PCG Brigadier Ghulam Abbas welcomed the Interior Minister on his arrival at the headquarters of Pakistan Coast Guards.

A smartly turned-out contingent of PCG presented a guard of honour to the minister.

Hot, humid weather with scattered rain-thunderstorms likely to persist in KP

PESHAWAR, Sep 01 (APP):The Provincial Meteorological Center (PMC) Friday predicted mainly hot and humid weather in most districts of the province.
However, scattered rain-thunderstorms associated with gusty winds are likely to occur over Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Bajaur, Buner, Battagram, Kohistan, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi and Khyber districts.
Isolated Thunderstorms associated with gusty winds are likely to occur over Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts.
During the last 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed over most districts of the province. However, rain-thunderstorms occurred in Khyber districts. Rain recorded (in mm):  Tirah-Khyber 02.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in °C at different stations of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): Peshawar City 37/27, Chitral 37/18, Timergara 35/24, Dir 33/17, Mirkhani 38/20, Kalam 27/08, Drosh 36/20, Saidu Sharif 35/21, Pattan 38/24, Malam Jabba 25/13, Takht Bhai 37/26, Kakul 31/19, Balakot 35/19, Parachinar 29/17, Bannu 39/25, Cherat 32/20, DI Khan 41/29.

According to official sources, a team headed by CEO Health Authority Dr. Asad Aslam along with Deputy District Health Officer (DDHO) Dr. Irfan Ahmad conducted raid at Junkmen shops near TB hospital and found that two dealers named Nadeem and Hamza were selling and purchasing hospital wastes.
The team sealed the shops and got registered cases against them over the violation of waste management law

Poisonous liquor producing unit unearthed, two arrested

PESHAWAR, Sep 01 (APP):In a late-night operation, Faqirabad police here Thursday unearthed a unit where poisonous and extremely unhealthy liquor products were being produced, and arrested two members of the network.

ASP Faqirabad, Sayyed Talal Ahmad Shah told media persons that members of the network used to bring raw material from different areas to the basement of a residential house in Faqirabad where poisonous liquor was being produced and supplied to various localities including educational institutions with fake brands and labels.

He said the action was taken on secret information and two gang members identified as Mumrez, resident of Bashirabad and Wasim, resident of Faqir Killay were taken into custody from the house. During the raid, he said poisonous liquor, chemicals and HTC pills were also recovered.

The ASP further said 800 liters of poisonous liquor, 103 bottles of different brands and 20 drums filled with liquor were recovered from the house where a family was also residing.

The bogus liquor stamped with fake labels was being supplied to various areas including students’ hostels. The arrested accused have identified the names of their other gang members, the ASP said, adding that very soon police will apprehend them.

To a question, he said evidence has been collected against printing presses involved in printing fake labels and stickers of different liquor brands and very soon action will be initiated against them.

APHC decries continued targeting of media in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Sep 1 (APP):The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed great dismay at the continued targeting of journalists and media organizations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by the Indian authorities, as the website of The Kashmir Walla, an independent news outlet, was blocked and its office closed down recently.

According to the Kashmir media service, the APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar said press freedom has been completely eroded in Jammu Kashmir. Local newspapers and outlets are coerced and intimidated to become state mouthpieces. Even its press statements are not published anymore by local newspapers and outlets, it added.

It said that the archives of local news websites had disappeared, and articles and news items from these websites have been erased and deleted which is unbelievable. Such highhandedness is being completely ignored by the mainstream media in India and in the world press it is hardly highlighted, it is deplored.

The APHC appealed to the defenders of a free press in India and outside to take up this issue urgently to help restore the sanctity and freedom of the press in Jammu and Kashmir.

It also asked for the prevention of persecution and harassment of journalists and demanded the immediate release of detained journalists.

Indian troops martyr eight Kashmiris in August

ISLAMABAD, Sep 1 (APP):Indian troops in their unabated acts of state terrorism martyred eight Kashmiris in the last month of August in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to the data issued by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, today, the Kashmiris were martyred in different fake encounters while three women were widowed and eleven children were orphaned by the Indian troops.

During the period, the personnel of Indian army, police, paramilitary, Special Investigation Agency (SIA) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested 134 civilians, mostly political activists, youth and students, during house raids and in 261 cordon and search operations and several of them were booked under black laws, including Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA).

They have been imprisoned in jails in India and IIOJK on fabricated charges.

ANF recovers 45 kg drugs in six operations

RAWALPINDI, Sep 01 (APP): Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting six operations managed to recover 45 kg of drugs and arrested five accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Friday.

He informed that in an operation, 500 ecstasy tablets were recovered from the possession of an accused arrested near Abbasin University Peshawar. The accused, a resident of Nowshera confessed to supplying drugs to the university students.

In another operation, 7 kg hashish and 5 kg crystal were recovered from the vehicle intercepted near Motorway Toll Plaza Peshawar. Two suspects who were trying to smuggle drugs from Peshawar to Punjab were arrested during the operation.

In the third operation conducted near Kohat Tunnel, 6 kg of hashish concealed for smuggling was recovered.

The spokesman further informed that 11 kg of hashish was recovered from the Zakh Khel area in Khyber.

In the fifth operation, a resident was arrested from the Faizpur Interchange Lahore area and ANF recovered 12.6 kg of opium and 600 grams of hashish from his possession.

In the sixth operation, 1720 grams of Ice was recovered from a parcel recovered at a courier office in Sialkot. Ice concealed in 56 gloves was being smuggled to Australia.

Separate cases were registered against all the accused while further investigations are under process, he added.
