Director Russian Friendship House for support to MSAP in chess promotion

KARACHI, Sep 04 (APP):Director Russian Centre of Science & Culture (Friendship House) R. M. Prokhrov has reiterated his continued commitment to Mind-Sports of Chess in arranging chess events and other facilities required to hold chess events.
He recommitted the support of Grand Master / ex-world champion & trainer Anatoly Karpov for training Pakistan National Masters.
He said this while inaugurating Engro Women Training Program here, said a statement on Monday.
Mind Sports Association of Pakistan (MSAP) holding the program as part of women empowerment.
Around 25 women training program including some students of Karachi.
CEO MSAP  Tariq Rasheed Khan complimented Prokhrov for his support for this  program and plans for arranging ex Russian chess star Anatoly Karpov for training Pakistan chess masters.
Pakistan’s  chess star Apparent Grand Master Mahmood Lodhi is chief instructor with FIDE Master Omer Khan and Muhammad Waqar – both qualified trainer and coaches.

Anti-encroachment drive launched

ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (APP):Assistant Commissioner Secretariat subdivision has launched crackdown against illegal occupation of public roads with a series of anti-encroachment operations in the federal.
The latest operation was conducted in the Athal Village area, where a team of officials successfully removed encroachments from a busy road, ICT Spokesman said on Monday.
The operation was carried out under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon.
The AC Secretariat said that the illegal occupation of public roads was a serious problem that posed a threat to the safety and security of citizens.
The anti-encroachment operation in Athal Village was a success, and the road has now been cleared for public use.
The AC Secretariat said that more operations would be conducted in the coming days to ensure that all public roads are free of encroachments.
The Assistant Commissioner urged the citizens to report  illegal encroachments to the authorities, adding “By working together, we can keep our streets clear and safe for everyone.”

Sanjrani expresses sorrow over tragic helicopter crash in Gwadar

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):The Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on Monday expressed deep sorrow on the sad incident of Naval Helicopter crash in Gwadar, which resulted in lost of precious lives.
The chairman Senate in a condolence message extended his heartfelt sympathies to the families of the martyrs and offered prayers that Allah Almighty to elevate the ranks of those who lost their lives in the crash and grants patience to their loved ones.
Sanjrani saluted the courageous sons who laid down their lives while performing their duties.
Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, also offered prayers for Navy officials who lost their lives in the Gwadar helicopter accident.
He expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families and prayed for the highest ranks in Jannah for the departed souls.

Thar deep installed solar system at BDS Sakrand, Qazi Ahmad

HYDERABAD, Sep 04 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Shehryar Gul Memon performed the opening of a 5kv Solar System installed at Benazir District Schools Sakrand and Qazi Ahmad by a Social Welfare Organization Thar Deep.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner said that all possible assistance would be accorded to schools by Divisional and district administration for providing better educational facilities to girls.
He said that solar system installations at educational institutions and health centres of the district by the Thar Deep Rural Development Program is an applauding step that would resolve the issue of power load shedding to educational institutions and health centres.
On the occasion, the DC said that all measures are being adopted for the betterment of education in the district.
He thanked Thar Deep and Concern Worldwide who installed solar systems at different educational institutions and health centres that would help students prevent heat waves.

Gold rates decline by Rs.700 to Rs.239,100 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):The per tola price of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs.700 on Monday and was sold at Rs. 239,100 as compared to its sale at Rs. 239,800 the previous day.
The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs.600 to Rs.204, 990 from Rs.205,590 whereas the rate of 10 gram 22 karat went down to Rs. 187,907  from Rs.188,457, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price per tola silver and that of ten-gram silver remained unchanged to close at RS 2,900 and Rs 2,486.28 respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $5 to $1,940 from $1,945, the Association reported.

RPO order security arrangements for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain

FAISALABAD, Sep 04 (APP):Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dr Muhammad Abid Khan has ordered for foolproof security arrangements in the region on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
In a directive issued to CPO Faisalabad and DPOs of Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot, he ordered to review the arrangements and make foolproof security in and outside Imambargahs, Majalis points and procession routes.
The peace committees should be activated at police stations, he directed.
Security circles around procession, inner and outer cordon, setting up pickets at entry and exit points, deployment of force at rooftops, screening of routes through special branch, sweeping, inspection of routes through bomb disposal squads, installation of CCTV cameras, walk through gates, search through metal detectors and parking arrangements should be part of the security arrangements, he said.

PM orders immediate action against power thieves, defaulters

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar chairs a meeting regarding power sector in Islamabad on 4th of September, 2023.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday ordered immediate action against those involved in power theft in the country and asked the relevant authorities to submit reports in this regard on daily basis.

Chairing a meeting here, the prime minister also directed to take swift actions against the electricity defaulters saying that there should not be any leniency towards the electricity thieves and the defaulters.

During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed in detail about all sections of the energy sector.

The meeting was informed about the total installed capacity, actual generation and overall energy supply during various seasons.

The prime minister was also informed about the energy mix in the power production.

PM Kakar stressed that in future, the renewable and hydel sources of energy should be given top priority to produce cheap and green energy in the country.

He also directed to take effective measures to reduce the line losses of the power distribution companies. “A comprehensive plan should also be prepared and presented to implement the transformer metering project.”

He said projects of small hydel power projects should be planned under the guidance of relevant experts.

Such projects will not only generate low-cost electricity but also help in reducing the harmful effects of climate change, he said adding that local coal should be preferred instead of expensive imported coal in coal power generation projects.

The prime minister also directed to immediately start work on the construction of 2400 MW solar power projects while ensuring transparency in the entire process.

The government, he said would take all possible steps to reduce the circular debt of the power sector.

The meeting was also informed about the progress on the establishment of the electricity energy market in the country.

It was informed in the meeting that with the establishment of energy market in the country, the performance and capacity of the power sector would be effectively increase that would help 27 million domestic consumers.

It was also told that most of the work by the power division have already been completed in this regard.

Robber killed, another arrested in police encounter

FAISALABAD, Sep 04 (APP):One robber was killed while his accomplice was arrested after a police encounter in the area of Sadar Tandlianwala police station.
A police spokesman said here on Monday that three outlaws were robbing a villager Abdul Hameed at Rehmay Shah Road, who raised alarm and a security squad of a sessions judge intercepted them early in the morning.
The squad, along with the Elite force, was going to receive the sessions judge from Sahiwal when they spotted the robbers and asked them to surrender. But the criminals fled the scene.
The security squad and Elite force chased and encircled them near Chak No 397 and once again directed them to surrender, but they opened fire, and the police had to return the fire.
In exchange of fire, one robber received serious bullet injuries and died on-the-spot near Government Girls’ High School Rehmay Shah, whereas the police succeeded in overpowering his one accomplice. However, the third accomplice managed to escape from the scene on a motorcycle.
The killed outlaw was identified as Imtiaz alias Chaledu and injured one as Zahid Iqbal and they both were wanted to the police in a number of dacoity, robbery and other cases.
The police shifted the body to mortuary and injured robber to hospital. Further investigation was under progress, spokesman added.

Robbers looted man in Pirmahal

Pirmahal, Sep 04 (APP):A man was looted by robbers on gum point here on Monday in the jurisdiction of police station Aroti.
According to police, Zubair son of Muhmmad sarwar was going to Rajana from Shorkot, when two Robbers looted cash Rs. 170, 000 on gun point and escaped from the spot.
The police investigation was underway.

BAHAWALPUR, Sep 04 (APP):District Peace Committee met under the chair of Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Zaheer Anwar Jappa to review the arrangements for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain AS.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the routes of processions should be repaired and cleaned on time. He directed to fix loose cables on the routes of processions. He also directed to chalk out a traffic plan to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. He urged Ulema to promote peace and harmony on the occasion of Chehlum.
 He said that Ulema can play an important role in maintaining peace in the region.
