Gomal University,SMEDA signs MoU for boosting entrepreneurial potential

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sep 07 (APP):Gomal University and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) on Thursday entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the entrepreneurial potential of university students.
Vice Chancellor Gomal University Prof Dr Shakibullah and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Project Manager Noreen Sheriyar Shah signed the MoU on behalf of the respective institutions.
Dr. Barkat Ali Khan, a Director of Gomal University and Noreen Sheriyar Shah from SEMDA would work as focal persons to contribute positively to the success of this agreement and its implementation.
Under the MoU, SMEDA would set up its help desk in Gomal University to provide training to the students of Gomal University, especially female students enabling them to start their own business and providing them guidance to digitize it.
 Speaking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor Gomal University Professor Dr. Shakibullah said that students of Gomal University were provided with opportunities for success in practical life along with education and this MoU was a part of it.
 He said that female students would be able to start their own business.
SEMDA Project Manager Nooreen Sheriyar Shah said that SEMDA would convince the students of Gomal University to start their own businesses after completing studies so that they could set life on the path of success and development.
 She said SMEDA would guide them in establishing a business while benefiting from modern business facilities.

Minister Tarar for increasing revenue of NHA

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Communications and Railways Shahid Ashraf Tarar on Thursday stressed for increasing the revenue of the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The minister was chairing the 44th meeting of the National Highway Council (NHC). It was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Communications, NHA, Finance Division, Planning & Development Division, and other relevant stakeholders.

The meeting discussed a number of important issues, including ways to beautification of motorways, and the pace of work on the construction of residential apartments for NHA employees.

Minister Tarar also directed to launch of a comprehensive media campaign for the implementation of hiked violation fines on motorways and national highways across the country.

He further said that the pace of work on the construction of residential apartments for NHA employees should be geared up.

He also desired to further improve the maintenance affairs of motorways and national highways and ensure maximum travelling and civic amenities on service and rest areas for the ease of the travellers.

He emphasized the beautification of motorway loops, which will ultimately improve environmental conditions and will be a practical step towards achieving an environmentally friendly road network in the country.

The meeting concluded with the assurance of all stakeholders to work together to improve the functioning of the NHA and ensure the smooth flow of traffic on national highways.

Islamabad Police launch “Knock the Door” campaign

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):In response to the directives of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the federal capital police have launched an extensive campaign “Knock the Door” to facilitate the comprehensive registration of both domestic workers and tenants.
A police public relations officer highlighted the efforts undertaken during this initiative, with dedicated teams from the Islamabad Capital Police hitting the streets and conducting door-to-door visits.
The primary objectives of the teams are twofold: first, to ensure the proper registration of tenants and house servants, and second, to address any concerns or issues raised by the citizens.
In a recent development, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Islamabad has reported the successful registration of data pertaining to 148 domestic workers employed in 267 households within the jurisdiction of the Sumbal police station.
The underlying purpose of this campaign is to bolster law and order in the federal capital, thereby minimizing the likelihood of any unfortunate incidents.
It is believed that the registration of tenants and domestic workers will not only facilitate vigilant oversight of potential wrongdoers but also act as a deterrent against any suspicious activities.
In the interest of public safety, citizens are urged to exercise caution and request proper identification from individuals in civilian attire who approach their homes for data collection purposes.

Pakistan,Turkmenistan agree to enhance economic, trade ties

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP): Pakistan and Turkmenistan on Thursday agreed to enhance economic and trade relations and enhance the economic integration between the region.

In a meeting Caretaker Minister of Commerce and Industries Production, Dr. Gohar Ejaz and Ambassador of Turkmenistan Atadjan Movalamov discussed increasing bilateral trade, said a press release issued here.

The minister said this meeting was an important step to strengthen trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. Opening up trade routes and expanding business relations is our top priority, he added.

Ejaz said the two countries have laid the foundation for joint cooperation with each other.

Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov invited Pakistan to participate in the $5 billion Arkadag Smart City Project. Pakistan has been offered to export construction materials and equipment for the project.

The ambassador expressed the need for agricultural products like rice, sugar, potatoes, and onions from Pakistan

Dr. Ejaz ensured Pakistan’s active participation in exhibitions in Turkmenistan.

US embassy, UNDP inaugurate Agriculture Training Centers in KP

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP): The United States (US) Embassy Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan inaugurated four Agriculture Training Centers (ATCs) established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including the merged districts.

The objective of establishing these centres was to enhance the capacity of farmers in the merged districts to promote the cultivation of alternative crops and eradicate illicit crops and other drug-related crimes, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

With funding from the U.S. Embassy Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, the ATCs were established by the UNDP Pakistan Rule of Law Programme in partnership with the Sustainable Development Unit of the Planning and Development Department (P&DD), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the districts of Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand, and Torghar.

These centres will facilitate the training of the local farmers on the cultivation of alternative crops in the merged districts, where the cultivation of poppies predominates. Alternatively, crop cultivation will create opportunities for income diversification, gradually diminishing the prevalence of any illicit activities associated with narcotics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The training at ATCs will include skill-building sessions on timely land preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, storage, and marketing. These training centres, especially through modern technologies, can improve how farmers in these areas receive, exchange, and utilize information. The farmers will also be connected with enterprises for long-term income and job opportunities.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary of Agriculture Department, Muhammad Jawed Marwat extended his gratitude to UNDP Pakistan and the U.S. Embassy Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement for their unwavering support. He asserted, “We are committed to curbing poppy cultivation and the trade of illicit substances to drive economic and social growth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially the merged districts.”

Under the U.S.-Pakistan Green Alliance framework, the U.S. is committed to supporting Pakistan as it strengthens climate resilience, pursues energy transformation, and fosters inclusive economic growth.

At the event, the U.S. Embassy Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Director, Lori Antolinez said, “Through these training centres, these farmers and their families can take pride in developing new skills, producing lucrative crops, and, even more importantly, building a more secure and prosperous Pakistan. ”

UNDP Pakistan Resident Representative, Dr. Samuel Rizk highlighted the U.S. Embassy Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement’s pivotal role in developing sustainable alternate livelihood solutions in the merged areas, “We appreciate the U.S. Embassy Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement’s collaboration and funding to build the first-ever Agriculture Training Centers in the merged districts.

These centres will promote the cultivation of alternative crops as a sustainable source of income generation for many individuals and communities. Over time, these centres will not only reduce drug-related crime but will also improve the quality of life of those living in the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, paving the way for inclusive, dignified, and sustainable development.”

COAS lauds Corps commanders for constant focus on soldiers’ wellbeing

RAWALPINDI, Sep 07 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir on Thursday commended the Corps Commanders for their constant focus on the wellbeing of their soldiers and maintenance of morale which constituted the foundation of the Army’s operational readiness.

The Army Chief made these remarks while presiding over the 259th Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) held at GHQ, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

The Forum paid rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices of Shuhada (martyrs) including officers and men of the Armed Forces, Law Enforcement Agencies and Citizens who laid their lives for the safety, security and territorial integrity of the country.

Fateha (prayer) was offered for the martyrs and it was reiterated that the State of Pakistan and its Armed Forces will continue to hold, the Shuhadas, and their families in the highest esteem, ever honouring them with utmost respect and dignity.

Commemoration of Defence and Martyrs Day on 6 September across the country by all segments of the society was appreciated for which the Armed Forces of Pakistan remain ever thankful to the proud nation.

The participants reiterated the Pakistan Army’s resolve to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan against all kinds of direct and indirect threats.

The forum reaffirmed that inimical propagandists’ desperate attempts to cause a wedge between the state institutions and the public are indicative of their mounting desperation and will only result in more humiliation of such elements, InshaAllah (By the Will of Allah).

The participants were briefed on the prevalent geo-strategic environment, challenges to national security and their own strategy in response to the evolving threat.

The forum resolved that all terrorists, their facilitators and abettors, working on the behest of hostile forces to destabilise Pakistan will be dealt with full might of the state.

The need for speedy development of the economic potential of Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) and Border Districts of Balochistan for sustainable peace and growth was also emphasised.

The COAS stressed on maintaining high standards of professionalism and motivation during operations and achieving excellence during the training of the formations.

The forum reiterated to continue full support of ongoing efforts in uplifting socioeconomic growth under the umbrella of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and wholeheartedly assisting the government in curbing all illegal activities which hamper economic stability, growth and investors’ confidence.

3 members of snatcher gang arrested, valuables worth Rs 5.5m recovered

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):The police team arrested three wanted members of a snatchers gang known as Raeesa gang involved in numerous snatching activities and recovered valuables worth Rs 5.5 million from their possession.
A public relations officer said following the special directions of Islamabad Capital City Police officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital Police has intensified crackdown against the criminal elements in order to eliminate the crime from the city.
He further said, Humak police team used technical and human resources and succeeded in apprehending three wanted members of a snatcher gang known as Raeesa gang involved in numerous snatching activities in various areas of the city.
The accused were identified as Raees, Najeeb and Waleed. Police also recovered valuables worth 5.5 million from their possession. Cases were registered against the nabbed accused and further investigation is underway.
Afterward, the police team handed over the recovered valuables to the owner. On getting back the stolen property, the owner thanked the Police for immediate action and appreciated their efforts.
ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan directed all senior officials for effective crackdown against the accused involved in criminal activities and ensured the safety of lives and property of citizens on a priority basis.

Caretaker PM foresees general elections prior to Feb, stands ready to support ECP, implement SC’s decision

ISLAMABAD, Sept 07 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Thursday said that general elections in the country might be held ahead of February next year, but the Election Commission of Pakistan was the relevant forum to take a decision in this regard.

The ECP was mandated to take a decision in this regard and the caretaker government would fulfill its constitutional obligation by extending all possible support to the ECP for holding of elections, the prime minister expressed his views during an interview with a private Tv channel (Aaj News) programme.

To a question, the prime minister said that the Supreme Court was an apex body and if it announced any decision over the polls matter,  it would be binding upon the interim government to  implement its verdict in letter and spirit.

“Let me assure, all the voters across the country, that they can chose the leadership of their choice with the power of their votes and there will be no institutional interference,” the prime minister asserted.

Prime Minister Kakar further elaborated that they would ensure a level playing field to all political parties who would have the freedom of expression and holding of processions.

He said that he himself would keenly observe the parties and would vote for the one that could give a suitable economic revival agenda.

To a question, the caretaker prime minister said that the interim government was working under a synchronized manner. The government and other institutions, including the military leadership, were working together for the achievement of the economic objectives, he added.

PM Kakar emphatically said that it was the domain of the political parties to forge an economic charter and take the issue to the public and made it clear that the caretaker set up could not give such an agenda.

It should be an indigenous programme of all the political parties who should opt to hold  consultations among themselves and it was not the responsibility of the interim government, he reiterated.

With regard to the electricity issues, the prime minister said that it was unjustified that those power consumers who had been contributing with payment of their bills were burdened at the cost of the power thieves.

He said that the interim government could not resolve the power issues in the short period, which included theft, losses, DISCOS privatization and stressed upon a mid term plan to address these.

The prime minister said that privatization of DISCOS was being commenced as the private sector had to run the business activities, adding that the caretaker government had given a plan for implementation.

He also expressed the confidence that his government would achieve something in this regard by the end of its tenure.

To another query, he maintained that during their discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), there was no opposition to targeted subsidy to the poor power consumers.

The prime minister further said that they were holding negotiations with the provinces over the markets closures timings for energy conservation and emphasised upon reversal of attitude in this regard.

The prime minister said that the country could attract $25 to 50 million investment in diverse sectors in the next few years, as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar had expressed their interests in various ventures.

By the end of December, they could foresee certain agreements as there were different proposals on the table in this respect, he added.

About National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) rules, the caretaker prime minister said that data collection had been very sensitive and security linked issue throughout the world, especially in countries like Pakistan which faced terrorism.

He maintained that it was not unusual to appoint a retired military person as NADRA head who had a background in the security issues, adding that the rules permitted appointment of any experienced person from the military or civilian on the post.

About social media and digital space, he said that there was discourse throughout the world as these platforms were also being used by the terrorists outfits who spread extreme hatred and propaganda.

To a query, he said that India could not achieve its objectives unless it resolve all the outstanding issues with Pakistan, in an equitable manner.

On one hand, you (India) wanted the veto power and on the other hand, stripped the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, disregarded the UNSC resolutions and continued maltreatment of minorities in India, he added.

The prime minister , responding to a question, said that those characters who had breached laws of the land on May 9, their cases should be taken to the logical end.

He maintained that he did not regard those miscreants who were involved in vandalism and arson attacks on that black day as terrorists and was not against any political party, but stressed that those who violated the laws of the land should face the legal proceedings.

The prime minister said that the interim government would want to strike a balance in the window available to it for the economic reforms for the larger benefits of the people of Pakistan.

He also resolved to broaden the tax net by controlling its evasion with use of technology which would go in the larger interests of the people in future.

Islamabad Police crackdown on e-challan violators, warns of impounding vehicles

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):The Islamabad Capital Police (ICP) have taken strict action against violators of e-challans, issuing a stern warning to immediately settle outstanding payments or face the impounding of their vehicles.
The ICP Safe City/Traffic police have collaborated with various banks to retrieve the necessary information for e-challan verification. These banks have been tasked with assisting in the identification of vehicles and their owners through high-tech technology, including biefcam alerts and Safe City surveillance systems.
In addition, legal actions are underway to enforce traffic laws against violators and e-challan are being issued to those who breach traffic regulations, a police public relations officer said on Thursday.
The citizens can verify their challans by entering their vehicle registration number on the official website of Islamabad Capital Police: www.islamabadpolice.gov.pk, or through the linkhttps://ict.islamabadpolice.gov.pk:8081/veri/verify_e_challan.php. Owners of the fined vehicles can pay their challan using the Jazz Cash mobile app or JS Bank wallet.
The ICP has warned that strict legal action will be taken against defaulters in cases of non-submission of challans.
The police force was committed to maintaining peace and security and safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens.
The ICP’s crackdown on e-challan violators is a welcome move that will help to deter traffic violations and keep the city’s roads safe.
The citizens are urged to pay their challans promptly to avoid the risk of having their vehicles impounded.
