Pakistan, Iran explore cultural collaborations

ISLAMABAD, Sep 13 (APP): Jamal Shah, the Caretaker Federal Minister for National Heritage & Culture Division, and Ehsan Khazaei, the Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, discussed the cultural ties between Pakistan and Iran, as well as recent developments like cultural agreements between the two nations.

In their meeting, the two parties explored the cultural connections between Pakistan and Iran, along with recent advancements in these relations, which encompassed cultural agreements between the two friendly nations.

Additionally, they deliberated on collaborating to arrange diverse cultural events, such as an Iranian film week and other cultural exchanges.

The minister expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhance cultural connections with Iran, encompassing areas such as arts, cinema, handicrafts, literature, heritage, and culture.

Ehsan Khazaei, the Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, noted the numerous cultural and historical similarities shared by Pakistan and Iran.

They also conversed about a collaborative film production between the two nations and agreed to convene a delegation-level meeting to delve deeper into this matter.

13 drug peddlers netted with 19 kg charras, 1200 grams heroin

RAWALPINDI, Sep 13 (APP):Rawalpindi police in an action against suspected drug peddlers conducted raids in different areas and rounded up 13 accused on recovery of over 19 kg charras and 1200 grams heroin.
According to a police spokesman, Dhamial police held Zulfiqar for having 1200 grams of heroin, a female drug smuggler with 2060 grams of charras and Dolat Khan for carrying 1760 grams of charras.
Saddar Baroni police rounded up Anil with 2100 grams of charras and Ibrar for possessing 2740 grams of charras.
City Police in their operation netted Sikander for having 1680 grams of charras while New Town police nabbed an accused namely Shehzad for having 1440 grams of charras.
Pirwadhai police arrested Yasir and recovered 1080 grams of charras and R.A. Bazar police held Umar on recovery of 1425 grams of charras.
He further informed that Westridge, Taxila, Saddar Wah and Wah Cantt police arrested Mehboob, Akpal Khan, Kamran and Shehbaz on recovery of 1200, 1480, 1440 and 1160 grams of charras respectively.
Separate cases have been registered against all accused while further investigations are underway.
City Police Officer, Rawalpindi had directed the police officers to accelerate ongoing operations against drug peddlers, bootleggers and other lawbreakers, he added.

Peshawar traffic police collects Rs 160.71 million in fines

PESHAWAR, Sep 13 (APP):Peshawar City Traffic Police has imposed fines on 928,156 individuals for traffic violations and collected over Rs. 160.71 million in eight months.
Under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Khan, Chief Traffic Officer Qamar Hayat Khan has launched a program in Peshawar.
This program aims to enhance compliance with traffic laws, promote better behavior among citizens, and implement the ‘Salute First, Then Speak’ policy.
It also includes the training of traffic wardens at the province’s first-ever Traffic School.
Giving eight months’ details, Chief Traffic Officer Qamar Hayat Khan said that traffic accidents have been reduced during the first eight months of the current year compared to the previous year, attributing this improvement to enhanced traffic management.
Additionally, Peshawar City Traffic Police conducts awareness campaigns on traffic laws through billboards in Peshawar cantonment, educating citizens about traffic regulations.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm likely from September 15-20 with occasional gaps

ISLAMABAD, Sep 13 (APP):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a rain spell from September 15-20 which would subside the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions across the country, giving maximum relief to the heat-stricken.
The moderate monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal were likely to penetrate the upper parts of the country from September 15 (evening or night) while a westerly wave was also likely to enter these areas on September 16.
Under the influence of these systems, rain/wind-thunderstorm with a few moderate to isolated heavy falls are expected in Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, and Gilgit Baltistan including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from September 15-20.
Rain/wind-thunderstorm with a few moderate to isolated heavy falls are also expected in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera during the period occasional gaps.
Rain/wind-thunderstorm is also expected in Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Umer Kot and Sanghar from September 16 (evening/night) to September 18 with occasional gaps.
About the impacts, the PMD warned that moderate to heavy falls may increase the water flows in local Nullahs/streams of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Galliyat, Murree, and  Rawalpindi/Islamabad from September17-19.
Moderate to heavy rains may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and Abbottabad during the wet spell from September.
The prevailing very hot and humid conditions are likely to be subsided during the spell.
The farmers are advised to manage their crop activities accordingly, while the tourists and travelers are advised to remain cautious to avoid any untoward situations during the period.
Wind thunderstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles, solar panels, etc. The general public has been advised to stay in safe places during windstorms/lightning/heavy rains.
All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures during the forecast period.

Gung Mandi police arrest two thieves

RAWALPINDI, Sep 13 (APP):In an operation against criminal elements, Rawalpindi Police have arrested two thieves besides recovering Rs 13.2 million and other items from their possession.
According to a police spokesman, Gung Mandi Police arrested two accused namely Ghufran and Saifullah, who were accused of stealing cash and valuables from a shop.
He informed that the police team constituted under the supervision of SHO Gung Mandi Police Station on the directives of SP Rawal, Faisal Saleem conducted a raid and managed to net the criminals who were record holders.
Police working on scientific lines managed to net the accused, he added.

Quality research witnesses substantial increase as current year publications reach 29000

ISLAMABAD, Sep 13 (APP):Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed has said that the number of universities as well as the quality of research has witnessed a substantial increase in the last two decades.
Talking to APP, he highlighted a substantial transformation in the realm of research with the current year boasting 28,967 publications in Impact Factor Journals.
He said that owing to these factors and many other initiatives a number of Pakistani universities are now featured in World and Asian rankings.
The chairman of HEC also shed light on the remarkable evolution of universities in the country over the past two decades.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that HEC’s efforts are underway for improvement in gender parity in higher education institutions, growth in PhD faculty and establishment of Centres of Excellence in emerging disciplines such as Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Quantum Computing, etc.
The Chairman underscored the revamping of research promotion and commercialisation initiatives and briefed the minister about the establishment of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) and Business Incubation Centre (BIC) in universities across the country as well as the launch of Research for Innovation (RFI) portal for better coordination among all the stakeholders.
He also underlined HEC’s quality assurance programmes, accreditation activities as well and national and international scholarship initiatives.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmed also shed light on various other HEC policies, groundbreaking special projects, and a forward-looking roadmap that charts the commission’s course into the future.
