Minister visits Data Darbar to finalise Urs arrangements

LAHORE, Sep 04 (APP):Caretaker Punjab Auqaf Minister Barrister Syed Azfar Ali on Monday visited Data Darbar to finalise the arrangements pertaining to annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A).
According to official sources here, the minister gave special directions to CCPO and DIG Operations for ensuring foolproof security during the Urs.
He also reviewed arrangements regarding security, cleanliness and Mehfil-e-Samaa.
Syed Azfar Ali said that caretaker Punjab Chief Minister was himself monitoring arrangements related to the annual Urs.
He further said that instructions had been issued to all administrative departments for providing best facilities to the devotees.
Sanctity of ‘Azan’ and ‘Jamatain’ would be ensured, he added.
The minister said that surroundings of Data Darbar would be decorated with colourful lights.
He said that Punjab Food Authority should ensure best arrangements related to ‘Langar’ and ‘Sabeel’ of milk and water.
He said that special teams of Rescue, Polio, Dengue and Health would remain deputed during three days of the Urs.

Amb. Masood Khan discusses water resource management with US lawmaker

WASHINGTON, Sep 04 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, Monday discussed the issue of water resource management with US Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury in Albuquerque, the largest city in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

Ms. Stansbury considers water as ground zero for climate change and has extensive experience in the field of water resources.

“Pakistan is grappling with the challenges of erratic climate change including the issue of water resource management which is critical to meet the requirements of population, especially the agriculture sector which is the backbone of our economy,” the ambassador said during the meeting, according to a press release of the Pakistani embassy.

He said that Pakistan and New Mexico could forge mutual beneficial partnership in extractive industry, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and tech-start-ups.

Ambassador Masood Khan, who is on a 3-day visit to New Mexico, also thanked Congresswoman Stansbury for her continued support to Pakistani diaspora in New Mexico, especially during last year’s murder case of Pakistani-American Muhammad Afzal Hussein.

Afzal Hussein was shot and killed outside his Albuquerque apartment complex. The culprit, later named as Muhammad Syed, a 51-year-old Afghan origin man, had also carried out three other killings of a sectarian nature in the area.

“We are deeply indebted to you for your steadfast support to the community and to the family of late Muhammad Afzal Hussein. It had helped restoring the confidence of diaspora after the tragic incident,” the ambassador said.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Congresswoman Stansbury noted the presence and important role being played by Pakistani community in socio-economic life of New Mexico.

“We consider Pakistani community here in New Mexico as a part of the fabric of our culture,” he said.

She expressed her deep condolences over the tragic killing of Afzal Hussein stating that he was an ‘extraordinary man”.

“I don’t know that I’m actually fully recovered from it myself; It was a challenging time and it was definitely a great loss,” she said recalling his contribution towards her campaign and also his help to the communities.

The Ambassador also expressed appreciation of the top New Mexico leadership’s commitment to create an enabling environment for minorities in New Mexico to integrate themselves into the mainstream.

The Ambassador also shared his proposal for establishing sister-province agreement with New Mexico which was fully endorsed by Ms. Stansburry.

Masood Khan also extended an invitation to the congresswoman to visit Pakistan which she accepted, the press release added.

Govt to provide employment porter late Hassan’s widow: Wasi

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):Caretaker Minister of State for Tourism Wasi Shah on Monday said that the government would provide employment to the porter late Muhammad Hassan’s widow, free education for children and bear the health expenses of his mother.
In a heartfelt gesture of compassion and support, the minister pledged the unwavering commitment to the family of the late Muhammad Hassan, a courageous porter from Skardu, who tragically lost his life while ascending the world’s
second-largest mountain, K2, said a news release.
Wasi Shah met the bereaved family, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Shigar Hamza. During the meeting, he conveyed the government’s condolences and assured full support and assistance to the family in this difficult time.
Furthermore, the minister shared a groundbreaking development in support of porters like Muhammad Hassan. He announced the initiation of formal measures for the welfare and training of porters, recognizing their invaluable contribution to the mountaineering industry. The government is effectively working on establishing a training center with a dedicated curriculum to enhance the skills and safety of porters.
He said that the training center would be inaugurated by the family of Muhammad Hassan, a poignant tribute to his memory.
He said the government stands united in solidarity with the family of Muhammad Hassan, honouring the memory of a true hero and ensuring that his legacy lives on through the support and opportunities provided to his loved ones.

LHC CJ chairs full court meeting

LAHORE, Sep 04 (APP):Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti on Monday chaired a full court meeting held on the start of new judicial year.
All LHC judges attended the meeting whereas three judges joined the meeting through video link from Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Multan.
The meeting reviewed the performance of all wings of LHC establishment, including Directorate of the District Judiciary.
The judges appreciated the performance report, from September 2022 to June 2023, of all wings and gave suggestions and recommendations for its improvement.
The meeting also gave approval for enhancing charges of verified copies and enhanced charges to Rs 3 per page while amending related rules.
The meeting was also apprised that the LHC had decided more than 137,000 cases from September 2022 to June 2023.
Addressing the meeting, the LHC chief justice said that all steps would be taken to ensure provision of justice to the masses. He also appreciated the services of LHC staff, adding, the staff was backbone of any institution.

Administration of Karachi supports people in every good work: Mayor Karachi

KARACHI, Sep 04 (APP):Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Monday said that the administration of Karachi is with the people in every good work, law and order, sanitation, sewage and other issues are the first priority and all the work will be done in the best way.
He said this on a visit to the Command and Control Room of Jafferia Alliance at Nishtar Park, along with Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad.
On this occasion, the General Secretary of Jafferia Alliance Shabbar Raza and other officials were also present.
Shabbar Raza, while giving a briefing to Mayor Karachi regarding the command and control room, said that there are more than 100 HD cameras to cover Nishtar Park to Soldier Bazar, Guru Mandir, M. A Jinnah Road and Imambargah Ali Raza.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that Nishtar Park is a historical place, and apart from state institutions, people should also do something by themselves. “When I was administrator, I requested them to do something under you. It is a pleasure to see that more than 100 cameras have been installed here under Jafferia Alliance”, he said.
In response to a question, he said that action would be taken according to the law on the Gulshan-e-Hadeed incident, Salman Abdullah Murad is his brother, there was no quarrel between us and the news regarding this is baseless.
Earlier a delegation, headed by Allama Baqir Hussain Zaidi, Patron of the Central Majalis and Procession Committee, called on mayor Karachi in his office in connection with the chelum majalis and procession.
The delegation consisted of representatives of various organizations, which included Ghufran Mujtaba, Ali Nasir, Jafar Bilgrami and Hifazat Rizvi.
Mayor Karachi’s Representative for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi was also present on this occasion.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the arrangements for Chehlum majlis and processions at Nishtar Park, M.A Jinnah Road and other places.
Participation will be ensured and municipal issues will be resolved on the places and routes of Chehlam Majlis and processions.
After a complete review of the identified problems, sustainable practical measures will be taken. Repairing of roads on the main procession route of Chehlum, restoration of street lights and cleanliness are the main problems.
The local administration is active on the occasion of Chehlum, all the work is being done together.
He said that peace, fraternity, equality and fraternity need to be popularized in the city. Scholars and scholars of the city should play their key role in this regard, he said.
On this occasion, the members of the delegation appreciated the efforts of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab to solve the basic problems of the city and assured him of full cooperation in all the work done for the betterment of the city.

Shaheen Afridi appeals parents to vaccinate children against Polio

ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (APP): Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi on Monday appealed to the parents to vaccinate their children against Polio during every vaccination drive to protect them from this crippling disease.

“Parents should immunize their children in polio vaccination campaigns to ensure they are protected against Poliovirus, “Shaheen Afridi made the plea during a meeting with the Caretaker Minister for Health Dr. Nadeem Jan.

Both discussed measures to make the country free from Polio. “Children are our future and they are precious for us and for the country,” Afridi added.

He said, “We can protect our children from lifetime disability while administering two drops of polio vaccine.”

Shaheen Afridi said, “Many healthy polio-free children are our future cricket stars.” He urged parents to ignore all rumours as the Polio vaccine is the most effective way to save your children from the disease.”

The minister said, “I will ensure that every conceivable measure is undertaken to elevate Pakistan to the ranks of polio-free countries. I will do anything that needs to be done to interrupt transmission.”

He said that the ministry had been actively working to eradicate polio from the country and its commitment remained unwavering.

Nawaz gifts laptop to Pakistani student

LONDON, Sep 04 (APP):Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Monday gifted a laptop to 16-year-old Mahnoor Cheema, who has  achieving A star grades in 34 subjects at the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).
PML-N President Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was also present on the occasion.
Nawaz Sharif congratulated Ms Cheema, a Pakistani native, for her extraordinary feat , saying,”Her accomplishment has not only set a new historical record in the United Kingdom but also garnered international recognition.”
He said Mahnoor Cheema was a true embodiment of Pakistan’s identity and a source of immense pride for the nation. “Her remarkable talent and unparalleled intelligence have not only elevated Pakistan’s reputation globally but will also as a significant milestone in advancing girls’ education in the country.”
