International students celebrate cultural diversity at Qatar’s Global Village exchange event

QATAR (DOHA), Sep 5 (APP):Students hailing from 15 different nations participated in the 2023 edition of the Huawei Seeds for the Future program, coming together for a remarkable cultural exchange experience at the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum’s Global Village event.

At this event, they ingeniously showcased their respective cultures and traditions through an array of vibrant stalls.

The students, representing each of their countries, eagerly explored the stalls set up by their international peers, engaging in lively conversations to learn more about their unique customs and heritage. Enthusiastically, they donned traditional attire from other nations, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual appreciation.

One standout activity involved the students receiving mock “Global Citizen” passports and visiting one another’s stalls, securing symbolic tickets through friendly negotiations. Participating countries included Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Oman, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Uzbekistan.
Each country’s representatives delivered informative presentations, delving into diverse topics such as culture, traditions, tourist attractions, languages, currency, minerals, cuisine, government systems, and traditional attire.

To further immerse the audience in the richness of their traditions, students from many of these nations also put on captivating performances, showcasing the customs observed during weddings and other joyous occasions. Dance routines added an extra layer of entertainment to the event.

The event, a collaborative effort between relevant ministries of Qatar and AIESEC, proved to be a resounding success, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed the performances and appreciated the students’ dedicated efforts.

Digital Silk Road promotes e-commerce between China, Pakistan

BEIJING, Sept. 5 (APP):Before sleeping, Kashan Khan, a Pakistani doctoral student of Tianjin University in north China’s Tianjin Municipality, ordered vegetables and meat for cooking on a shopping app on his mobile phone, and he would pick up the goods on the way to the dormitory the next day.

“The online shopping in China is convenient. I don’t have time to go to shopping malls or markets. I can buy everything I need online, even the flowers for my girlfriend,” said Khan, who was busy with scientific research, and online shopping helped save a lot of time for him.

China’s digital trade has developed vigorously in recent years. According to the data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the scale of China’s digital economy increased by 4.1 trillion U.S. dollars, with an average annual compound growth rate of 14.2 percent from 2016 to 2022.

“I have lived in China for seven years. I saw the rapid development of e-commerce, mobile payment, and artificial intelligence in China by myself. I hope that Pakistan can promote a digital economy like China and people in my hometown can benefit from this economy mode,” Khan told Xinhua.

Khan’s wish has come true, as the dividend of China’s booming digital trade has provided a pool of business opportunities and injected fresh hope into countries along the Belt and Road.

To keep up with the digital transformation trends, the Digital Silk Road was launched. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) technology dimension extends from the ocean floor to outer space, enabling artificial intelligence, big data applications, and other strategic internet solutions.

As of November 2022, China had established the Digital Silk Road cooperation mechanism with 16 countries and advanced the Silk Road E-commerce bilateral cooperation mechanism with 26 countries, including Pakistan.

Samoyed Cloud Technology, a Chinese scientific and technological enterprise focused on artificial intelligence, big data, mobile Internet, and cloud computing, tapped into the vast potential of the market of Pakistan’s digital economy and launched the e-commerce platform EZTRADER to provide digital trade services for the local retailers importing Chinese products.

“Chinese products are popular in Pakistan. Since the platform EZTRADER was launched in May of this year, it has
attracted more than 3,000 local retailers, completely exceeding our expectations,” said Lin Jianming, chairman and CEO of the company.

Muhammad Rizwan, a 35-year-old retailer of mobile phone accessories in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, settled in EZTRADER swiftly after it was launched.

“E-commerce platforms provide a centralized space where businesses can connect, negotiate, and conduct transactions. We don’t need to search for potential partners or clients individually. We can trade directly with manufacturers or suppliers in China without intermediaries. This can significantly reduce the cost,” said Muhammad Rizwan.

Alibaba.com, an online business-to-business marketplace for global wholesalers under the Alibaba Group, has launched foreign trade business in many countries along the Belt and Road. Pakistan topped the number of overseas wholesalers on the platform, and the annual growth rate of the number of Pakistani wholesalers was over 64 percent during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For lack of capital and sales channels, a Pakistani couple, Aziz-ur-Rehman and Sadia Aziz, struggled in the first two years after they had established their baby clothing brand with their savings of 1.5 million rupees (about 18,000 U.S. dollars) in 2018.

In 2020, Alibaba.com provided them with complete online business solutions and online training sessions. Their company was connected with global customers through the platform and turned losses into profits.

“Up to now, our company’s business revenue was over 3 million rupees and grew at a rate of 1 million rupees per year. China provided us with a lot of opportunities in the digital economy. We believe Pakistan’s digital economy is promising in the future,” said Aziz-ur-Rehman.

Strict action to be taken against drug mafia: RPO

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sep 05 (APP):Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ismail Khan Nasir Mehmood Satti on Tuesday said that strict action would be taken against those involved in narcotics use and selling in educational institutions, hostels and public places as anti-drugs campaign started against the menace of drugs focused on the use of ice in the DI Khan and Tank districts.

On the directions of Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Hayat Khan, and on the special instructions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Mehmood Satti, under the leadership of District Police Officer Dera Abdul Rauf Babar, and District Police Officer Tank Iftikhar Ali Shah, Dera and Tank police intensified crackdown in both districts against criminals involved in nefarious smuggling and use of drugs.

We have launched a special campaign against the manufacturers, smugglers, sellers and users of drugs in the districts
of Dera Ismail Khan and Tank,” Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Mehmood Satti said, while talking to APP.

Police officers have instructions to monitor the activities of drug dealers in the vicinity of educational institutions, hostels and public places, he added.

He said that strict action should be taken against those involved in drug use and selling in educational institutions and hostels and other public places.

He said that the crackdown on the trade and use of drugs would continue, and the drug dealers would not be allowed to operate freely.

RPO said that the aim of the crackdown on ice drug dealers was the protection of youth from the evil of drugs, adding
that operations against the drug dealers have been intensified and all available resources would be utilized to this end.

The police officials sought cooperation from the people in their effort to eradicate the drug menace from society, RPO urged them to inform the police about those who were involved in drug peddling in their villages and localities so that
their network could be smashed.

477 proclaimed offenders held in August

SARGODHA, Sep 05 (APP):Sargodha Police arrested 477 proclaimed offenders, 1802 criminals, 157 notorious criminals and 10 dangerous gangs during the last month of August across the District.
According to a spokesperson, police also recovered 1072 bullets, 160 pistols, two revolvers, 39 guns, 17 rifles, 111 kg hashish, 2.9 kg heroin , 5079 liters of liquor and cash amounting to 5.8 millions of rupees from their possession.

Govt committed for uniform, quality education system on modern lines: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Sep 5 (APP):Caretaker Minister for Education and Professional Training Madad Ali Sindhi Tuesday assured that his government would ensure a uniform and quality educational system in the country and vowed to improve the ability of public sector teachers to modernize the education system.
“Quality education was the highest priority of the present government and assured the students of resolving their problems on immediate basis and that they would be assisted in every possible way”, he said while talking to a Private news channel.
“Our main focus is to pay special attention to the higher education as well as character building of the students at school level so that they could use their leadership abilities for the betterment and sustainable development of the country”, he added.
“The condition of government schools will also be improved, adding, the services of private schools cannot also be ignored.
The public-private schools would equally be standardized across the country, he mentioned.
Replying to a question, he said the development of nations was possible only through improvement in the field of education, adding that an equal education system would be introduced so that our young population of rich and poor could get education together.

Healthcare commission seals 48 illegal health centres in KP

PESHAWAR, Sep 05 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Care Commission in its performance report for the month of August on Tuesday claimed to have sealed 48 illegal and unregistered health centers across the province.

It said that the teams of the commission inspected 409 health centres in the province and issued notices to 123 centres while 48 were sealed over gross violation of health facilities.

The Healthcare Commission completed a comprehensive review of nine major hospitals about healthcare facilities and assessed diagnosis, infrastructure, treatment and examination facilities for the patients.

Similarly, the Commission issued registration certificates to 617 health centres in one month and completed the training of eight major hospitals for the provision of services.

The Healthcare Commission conducted successful crackdowns against quackery in several districts including Abbottabad, Peshawar, Swat, Malakand, and Bannu and sealed the unregistered and uncertified quake centres.

The commission expressed resolve to continue its efforts to elevate healthcare standards and provide exceptional medical services to the community of KP.

Amb. Masood Khan discusses water resource management with US lawmaker

WASHINGTON, Sep 05 (APP):Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, Monday discussed the issue of water resource management with US Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury in Albuquerque, the largest city in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

Ms. Stansbury considers water as ground zero for climate change and has extensive experience in the field of water resources.

“Pakistan is grappling with the challenges of erratic climate change including the issue of water resource management which is critical to meet the requirements of population, especially the agriculture sector which is the backbone of our economy,” the ambassador said during the meeting, according to a press release of the Pakistani embassy.

He said that Pakistan and New Mexico could forge mutual beneficial partnership in extractive industry, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and tech-start-ups.

Ambassador Masood Khan, who is on a 3-day visit to New Mexico, also thanked Congresswoman Stansbury for her continued support to Pakistani diaspora in New Mexico, especially during last year’s murder case of Pakistani-American Muhammad Afzal Hussein.

Afzal Hussein was shot and killed outside his Albuquerque apartment complex. The culprit, later named as Muhammad Syed, a 51-year-old Afghan origin man, had also carried out three other killings of a sectarian nature in the area.

“We are deeply indebted to you for your steadfast support to the community and to the family of late Muhammad Afzal Hussein. It had helped restoring the confidence of diaspora after the tragic incident,” the ambassador said.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Congresswoman Stansbury noted the presence and important role being played by Pakistani community in socio-economic life of New Mexico.

“We consider Pakistani community here in New Mexico as a part of the fabric of our culture,” he said.

She expressed her deep condolences over the tragic killing of Afzal Hussein stating that he was an ‘extraordinary man”.

“I don’t know that I’m actually fully recovered from it myself; It was a challenging time and it was definitely a great loss,” she said recalling his contribution towards her campaign and also his help to the communities.

The Ambassador also expressed appreciation of the top New Mexico leadership’s commitment to create an enabling environment for minorities in New Mexico to integrate themselves into the mainstream.

The Ambassador also shared his proposal for establishing sister-province agreement with New Mexico which was fully endorsed by Ms. Stansburry.

Masood Khan also extended an invitation to the congresswoman to visit Pakistan which she accepted, the press release added.

APHC decries worsening HR situation, drug menace in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Sep 5 (APP):Senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah has voiced grave concern over the continued bloodshed and human rights violations at the hands of Indian occupation forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In his message from New Delhi’s Tihar jail, the detained leader, while referring to the recent acts of state terrorism in which innocent youth were killed in the Kashmir valley, said that during so-called operations innocent civilians particularly youth were deliberately targeted after being labelled “militants”.
“On the one hand, the Indian government has let loose its forces to kill Kashmiris while NIA has been given a free hand to target and silence political activists and members of civil society who have refused to accept the government dictates, on the other”, Shah said, adding that attachment and confiscation of properties of Hurriyat leaders was part of the apartheid regime’s clampdown campaign to silence legitimate political voices in Kashmir.
Shabbir Shah said that in pursuit of the Israeli settler colonialism model the Modi regime continues to confiscate the Kashmiris’ lands and properties.
Houses, lands, offices of the Kashmiri people are seized to create an environment of fear and force them to subjugation”, he said, adding that government employees were being terminated on flimsy grounds.
He, however, maintained that such mean tactics by New Delhi won’t deter Kashmiris from pursuing their collective cause of freedom.
The Hurriyat leader urged the world human rights organizations to take effective notice of the bloodshed violence, persecution and victimization of political leaders and activists in the territory.
Shabbir Shah said it is high time for the United Nations to show that it is not a toothless organization and save the Kashmiris from the Modi regime’s onslaught. Resolution of the Kashmir dispute lies only in relevant UN resolutions, he added.
He also voiced grave concern over the fast-spreading drug menace in the Kashmir valley and termed it a deep-rooted conspiracy against the Kashmiri population.
   He said that the drug mafia working under government patronage has turned the valley into a drug den where innocent people particularly the youth were being lured into drugs.
