SARGODHA, Sep 07 (APP):Seven shopkeepers were booked for profiteering in various areas of the city here on Thursday.
According to official sources,the price control magistrates visited various areas including Chak 86-SB,Chak 31-SB and found that Adnan,Abdul Rehman,Umar,Naeem,Ejaz,Bashir and Imtiaz were selling eatable items at exorbitant rates.
Cases were registered against them.

Quick response: police recovers bike in 15 minutes

MUZAFFARGARH, Sep 07 (APP):Station House Officer (SHO) of Khan Garh Police Station claimed to have recovered a motorbike just 15 minutes after it was robbed at gunpoint.
Abdul Karim Laghari said they had received an emergency call from 15 helpline numbers by a local citizen as two rubbers had snatched a motorbike from him.
He said the police team started chasing the robbers after making an immediate response to the call.
Robbers also opened fire on the police but the latter continued chasing, it was said. Eventually, the offenders left the motorbike and escaped by taking benefit of the darkness of the night.
SHO said the search for the burglars was on and they would soon be arrested.
Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Hasnain Haider hailed the quick response of the police team.
In appreciation note, he launded the officials to recover stolen vehicle of the citizen.

Dollar goes down by Rs 2.48 in interbank

48 FIRs, registered for violating dengue SOPs in 24 hours

RAWALPINDI, Sep 07 (APP):The District Health Authority(DHA) registered 48 FIRs and sealed 11 premises on violations of anti-dengue SOPs during the last 24 hours.
District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC), Dr Sajjad Mehmood on Thursday said that the health department in collaboration with concerned departments, issued tickets to seven and imposed a fine of Rs 176,000 on violations of dengue SOPs during the last 24 hours.
At that time, the health officer said that 76 patients were admitted to various health facilities in the district, out of which 46 have been confirmed while 270 have been discharged after treatment.
Dr Sajjad added that after 15 more positive cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed cases in the district rose to 316.
The health officer said that most of the cases have been reported from Rawalpindi Cantonment and Potohar Town areas where necessary response activities are being carried out to eradicate the larvae.
He urged the residents to remove stagnant water, especially after rain in outdoor and household settings to stop mosquitoes from breeding.

Jarma police arrest murder accused

KOHAT, Sept 7 (APP)::The Jarma police in Kohat arrested a wanted criminal involved in murder and attempted murder cases here on Thursday.
A spokesman for Kohat police said a proclaimed offender named Afsar Khan, a resident of Surgal who was wanted in murder and attempted murder cases has been arrested.
The weapon used during the crimes was also recovered from his possession.
The operation to arrest the wanted criminal was carried out under the headship of DSP Yusuf Jan and SHO Jarma Abid Wasim Khan.
The accused, arrested during an intelligence-based raid was later shifted to Jarma police station for further legal procedure.

DC Abbottabad establishes District Electricity Theft Reporting Cell

ABBOTTABAD, Sep 07 (APP):In accordance with the directives from the Home and Tribal Affairs Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), the district administration of Abbottabad Thursday has established the District Electricity Theft Reporting Cell (DETRC) at the DC Office in Abbottabad.
The DERC would operate around the clock, with its primary functions being the reporting and receipt of complaints regarding electricity theft, as well as providing support to enforcement committees.
Furthermore, a five-member District Enforcement Committee (DEC) has been formed, comprising the DC of Abbottabad as the chairman, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Abbottabad as a member, the Superintendent Engineer of Hazara PESCO, the ADC (G) Abbottabad, and the Social Worker Ayaz Saleem Rana.
The DEC would oversee the performance of Tehsil Enforcement Committees (TEC) and submit daily progress reports to the Provincial Task Force (PTF) and the Chief Executive Officer of PESCO.
Any departmental involvement or government official implicated by TEC reports would be shared with both the PTF and the Chief Executive Engineer of PESCO, ensuring the possibility of disciplinary action being taken.
Additionally, DC Abbottabad has also appointed seven-member TECs and sub-committees for all four tehsils within the district.
These committees would be responsible for the removal of illegal connections (hooks or kunda), recovering outstanding dues from PESCO defaulters, and ensuring that the relevant SDO identifies hooks and defaulters. Legal assistance would be provided to TECs, and the police would offer necessary security during their operations.

15k buses needed for public transport, 1029 buses plying on roads in the city: Briefing

KARACHI, Sep 07 (APP):The World Bank report has revealed that a total of 15,000 buses are needed for the comprehensive transport system of Karachi while currently only 1029 buses are operational on city roads including 240 buses of People’s Bus Service, 100 buses of BRT, and 689 old buses operated by private sector.
Besides, work is in progress on route feasibility for the procurement of 500 more buses for the province.
The caretaker provincial minister of finance, revenue, and planning and development in Sindh Muhammad Younus Dagha was told these details by the officers of the Sindh transport department during a briefing on projects at his office in the Sindh secretariat here, said a spokesperson on Thursday.
It was informed that in the light of the report of the World Bank, around 13000 more public transport buses were needed in Karachi to meet the gap.
During the briefing, the caretaker provincial minister Mohammad Younus Dagha directed that the private sector should be encouraged under public-private partnership projects to meet the huge gap in public transport for Karachi.
The caretaker minister was informed that a plan to provide easy loans to local private transporters through the establishment of an endowment fund was under consideration by the transport department to bring forward the private sector and in this context, it was also suggested that these loans be provided at the zero markup rate.
In the briefing, it was informed that after consultation with the local transporters of Karachi, a proposal was also under consideration to provide soft loans to the local transporters after the purchase of buses.
These purchased buses would be in the name of the Sindh government till the transporters pay the full installments of the loan of these buses.
The participants agreed that the proposal would enable the local transporters to procure new buses on easy loans with the government’s assistance and continue playing their role in public transport for the city with better services.

“The family park and Kanwal Lake provide a peaceful environment for tourists to be close to nature,” said a citizen while talking to a private news channel.
Visitors from various parts of the twin cities are flocking and experiencing its breathtaking beauty, which they find truly inspiring, said another citizen of Rawalpindi.
“The lake family park is a beautiful place for enjoyment, said a woman visitor, adding, After spending a hectic day, I rush towards it and become fresh after spending only a few moments here”.
Another visitor also demanded that the local administration should develop some other places like this to provide healthy recreational facilities to the people.
A tourist suggested to come and visit the family park in Shakarparian to relish the weather rather than spend their time at home.
I had visited many lakes in Pakistan and abroad but Kanwal Lake associated with Kanwal Lake was unique and impressive, said another visitor.
CDA officials also commented that the lake and park aim to provide citizens with a resort as well as a peaceful environment.

Eminent writer, playwright, broadcaster Ashfaq Ahmad remembered

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):Death anniversary of eminent writer, playwright and broadcaster Ashfaq Ahmad was observed on Thursday.
Born on August 22, 1925 Ashfaq Ahmad wrote dozens of TV dramas and hosted a famous programmes on Radio Pakistan “Talqeen Shah” which was broadcast by Radio Pakistan for about 35 years.
His famous PTV plays were “Munchaley ka Soda” “Aik Muhobaat Sao Fasaney” “Tota Kahani” “Hairat Kada” and “Afsaney”.
On television, Ahmad penned the script of several plays that went on to become popular with audiences including, Uchhay Burj Lahore De, Tali Thallay, and Tota Kahani. He also made a feature film called “Dhop aur Saya” in the 1960s. Ashfaq Ahmed married Banu Qudsia, who was also a well-known author and literary personality.
He received both the Presidential Pride of Performance award (Sadarti Aizaz Barai-Husn-Karkardagi) and Sitar-e-Imtiaz.
Ashfaq Ahmad died on September 7, 2004, in Lahore at the age of 79.
