Corrective measures: Rupee gains Rs2.03 against US Dollar
ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): Corrective measures taken by the government have started yielding results as the Pakistani Rupee on Thursday gained Rs2.03 against the US dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs304.94 against the previous day’s closing of 306.97.
The buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market came down to Rs305 and Rs308 from Rs313 and Rs316 respectively, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP).
The price of the Euro decreased by Rs 2.81 to close at Rs326.67 against the last day’s closing of Rs329.48, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The Japanese Yen came down by 02 paisa and stood at Rs2.06, whereas a decrease of Rs5.25 paisa was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs380.20 as compared to the last closing of Rs385.45.
The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 55 and 53 paisa to close at Rs83.02 and Rs81.30 respectively.
To prevent smuggling and hoarding of dollar, the government launched a massive crackdown against the elements involved in dollar smuggling, hoarding and organized crime cartels, causing loss to the national economy.
Strict action is being taken after the identification of facilitators and patrons of government officials indulged in illegal economic activities.
Accordingly, complete lists of the elements involved in illegal economic activities have been prepared; and an extensive crackdown is underway.
Considering the constant devaluation of the rupee against the US dollar, the government initiated and implemented administrative measures against the elements involved causing a dent in the national economy.
In line with its strategy, the government has ordered to take strict action against unauthorized money changers and other mafias operating in the country. “Major policy reforms are underway. Commodity/currency trading will be changed.”
Surveillance systems at land routes, sea and airports are being upgraded after the government decided “Illegal movement of goods and currency will not be allowed.”

These vital resources will be deployed during emergency situations to provide shelter, medical care, and essential supplies to those in need. And can be used as a mobile emergency hospital in emergency situation.

These specialized tents are designed to provide a safe and warm haven for those affected by natural calamities, ensuring their protection from extreme cold, snow, and inclement weather.
A formal signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, graced by the presence of representatives from PDMA, UNOCHA, and IMCP. The occasion marked the official handover of these much-needed supplies to PDMA officials.
Janat Gul Afridi, Director General PDMA, conveyed his deep gratitude for the generous support extended by International Medical Corps-Pakistan. He also appreciated the coordination role of UN OCHA (Ms Shama) in supporting and facilitating this activity.

PR spends Rs.1862 M for rehabilitation of track between Kotri-Khanpur
ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): Pakistan Railways is spending Rs. 1862.84 million for the rehabilitation of 518 kilometers of track between Kotri-Khanpur under the project of Immediate Track Safety Works (ITSW-I).
Despite financial constraints, the management of Pakistan Railways is putting maximum effort into improving infrastructure including tracks, bridges, and stations, an official in the Ministry of Railways told APP.
Under the project of rehabilitation of Karachi Port tracks, 24-kilometre tracks, 17 level crossings, and seven bridges have been rehabilitated, along with the replacement of turnouts.
The official said that Railway Dry Ports at Lahore (Mughalpura), Badami Bagh, and Azakhel have been upgraded.
He said under the Immediate Track Safety Works (ITS W-II & IMTS W-III), the railway track between Tando Adam-Khanpur covering 456 kilometers would be rehabilitated at a cost of Rs. 4830.437 million and Rs.4875.461 million, respectively, by replacing the US components of the track and ensuring the safety of train operation.
A PC-I amounting to Rs.4930.22 million for the rehabilitation of track machinery has been approved, which would ensure the quality of track maintenance work.
Meanwhile, 11 stations have been upgraded, including Peshawar, Hassan Abdal, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Narowal, Nankana Sahib, Raiwind, Okara, Sahiwal, and Bahawalpur, under PSDP projects.
The project of up-gradation of Main Line-I at a cost of $6.683 billion has been negotiated with the Chinese side for completing the ML-1 in two phases consisting of four packages, he added.
The assets of Pakistan Railways are mainly related to the track (11881 kilometers), and rolling stock (15699), and most of these assets have lived their useful life.
Therefore, he said the department has taken several measures for efficient maintenance of these assets, which include an increase in fiscal space for maintenance through the transfer of pensions, reduced utility bills through solarization, improved procurement management through prioritized procurement, and an efficient fuel management system.
He said the department is gradually shifting from a manual to a mechanized track maintenance regime for enhanced productivity and quality, while improved governance of the maintenance system through the introduction of IT-related interventions (ERP) and the provision of professional human resources was also among the top priorities.
Regional Connectivity is an important aspect of the Pakistan Railway development framework. Presently, Pakistan Railway has planned to improve its functional links with regional countries, including India and Iran, he added.
Furthermore, the official said the following new rail links would be established, including the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Connectivity Project through Kohat-Kharlachi.

Constable martyred in terrorist attack on police checkpost in Tank
TANK, Sep 07 (APP): A policeman embraced martyrdom as terrorists attacked Sami Ullah Check post here in the limits of City Police Station last night.
According to a police spokesman, the unknown assailants opened fire at the Sami Ullah Check post late night on Wednesday. As a result, Constable of Levies police Ehsan Ullah son of Akbar Jan Bettani resident of Kalai Umar-Adda embraced martyrdom. The police team, deployed at the checkpost, also retaliated forcefully, however, the terrorists managed to escape from the scene.
As soon as the incident was reported, District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Ifekhar Ali Shah along with SP Investigation Haji Nasir Khan and a heavy contingent of police reached the site. The police surrounded the area and started a search operation in the area.
Later, the funeral prayer of the martyred constable was offered here at the DPO office on Thursday morning. The funeral was attended by DPO Iftekhar Ali Shah, SP Investigation Haji Nasir Khan, DSP Headquarters Abdul Rasheed Khan, DSP Rural Chan Shah, DSP Jandola Circle Syed Marjan Khan, DEO FC Sarmast Khan and other officers and personnel of security forces.
On this occasion, the police officers along with the special contingents of police force presented a salute to the coffin of the martyred cop. The officers also laid wreaths on the coffin.
The coffin was later shifted to Umar-Adda, the hometown of the martyred cop, for burial.
PM praises forces for thwarting attack on military posts in Chitral
ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Thursday praised the armed forces for thwarting a terrorist attack on military posts near the Pak-Afghan border in Chitral.
“Thanks to our alert forces, the terrorist attack on military posts near the Pak-Afghan border in Chitral, was repelled with heavy casualties on the terrorist side,” he said in his social media post on X, formerly twitter.
He also expressed sorrow over the loss of four brave soldiers who embraced Shahadat in the incident.
“Our resolve to eradicate terrorism remains unshaken, and all our citizens stand firm with us,” he added.
