0
PESHAWAR, Feb 27 (APP): The Kohat district police on Friday claimed to have solved the murder case of lady doctor Mahwish and arrested two suspects after an intensive, technology-driven investigation conducted under challenging security conditions.
According to a police spokesman, Dr. Mahwish was killed near Usman Mosque, close to KDA Hospital, at around 8:05 p. m. on February 22.
Her husband, Muhammad Hasnain, a resident of KDA, told police in his initial statement that they had no personal enmity with anyone.
Police then pursued the case on modern investigative lines, examining multiple angles to trace the perpetrators.
The provincial government, provincial health department and senior civil and police leadership, including Inspector General KP Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Commissioner Kohat Syed Motasim Billah Shah and DIG Kohat Irfan Tariq, took strict notice of the incident and directed police to ensure swift arrests.
District Police Officer Kohat Shehbaz Elahi constituted special investigation teams comprising the SP City, SP Investigation, DSP Headquarters, investigation staff and the SHO of KDA Police Station.
The teams carried out intelligence-based raids at various locations and used modern technology along with human intelligence to track the suspects.
Police recovered the murder weapon, along with a motorcycle and a rickshaw allegedly used in the crime.
Investigations revealed that the accused Hayat Gul, and Saif Ali residents of Ghamkol Camp were involved in the killing.
After coordinated raids across multiple districts, police arrested both suspects from Ghamkol No. 3. Initial interrogation indicated that a verbal dispute between Hayat Gul and the doctor escalated into the fatal attack.
Police said the case remained highly sensitive as the district was simultaneously facing serious security challenges, including a recent terrorist attack in which DSP Lachi and five other police personnel were martyred.
Despite these pressures, Kohat police continued the investigation with professionalism and persistence, leading to the arrest of the accused.
Further investigation is under way, and police officials said a strong, evidence-based challan will be submitted to the court to secure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.

Nation stands shoulder to shoulder with armed forces against terrorism: Rana Sanaullah

0
ISLAMABAD, Feb 27 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan told the Senate on Friday that the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism, as the House unanimously adopted a resolution reaffirming national unity against aggression and militancy.
Responding to Opposition Leader Senator Raja Nasir Abbas during a discussion on the resolution, Sanaullah said the unanimous passage of the resolution by the House of Federation reflected the collective will of the people and endorsed the resolve of the nation.
He said that at critical moments the Pakistani nation had consistently placed full confidence in its armed forces and stood firmly behind them.
Referring to recent cross-border aggression, he said the armed forces had delivered a strong and effective response while exercising restraint.
Sanaullah said Pakistan’s armed forces were highly professional and fully capable of responding decisively to any hostile act, but had demonstrated maturity and responsibility by limiting action to what was necessary.
He warned that elements involved in cross-border activities had previously been given opportunities to behave responsibly, but if aggression continued, they would be dealt with firmly.
The adviser said the government and political leadership stood fully aligned with the military leadership’s decisions regarding national security and counter-terrorism operations.
During the debate, Senator Ali Zafar proposed the formation of a regional mechanism to address the situation.
Sanaullah suggested referring the matter to the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs for in-camera briefings from the Foreign Office and relevant security institutions before any decision was taken.
He noted that friendly countries had facilitated negotiations in the past, but those efforts did not yield lasting results. However, he described the proposal as constructive and deserving of detailed consideration at an appropriate stage.
Sanaullah said the central message of the resolution was clear: the nation remains united against terrorism and in support of its armed forces, law enforcement agencies and the families of martyrs.
He added that while political matters should ideally be resolved through dialogue among stakeholders, issues of national security required collective resolve. The prime minister had extended invitations for dialogue on multiple occasions, he said, adding that such discussions could proceed separately from security-related concerns.
He urged opposition members to keep political differences separate from the national stance against terrorism, saying that while disagreements are part of democratic politics, unity on national security remains paramount.

Afghan Taliban–Fitna Al Khawarij nexus exposed after unprovoked aggression against Pakistan: Experts

0
PESHAWAR, Feb 27 (APP): The security and foreign policy experts here Friday claimed a nexus between the Afghan Taliban and terrorists groups backed by India to destabilize the region.
They said the recent unprovoked firing on Pakistani border posts in multiple areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have tesfied this nexus between Afghan Taliban regime and banned Fatinul Khwaraj being proxy of India to destabilize Pakistan through transporting terrorism.
Speaking to APP, Brigadier (R) Mehmood Shah, former Secretary Law and Order of erstwhile Fata termed the cross-border firing by the Afghan Taliban regime a serious violation of UN Charter and Doha Agreement, saying that Pakistani forces bravely responded in self-defence.
He said Pakistan had repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to act against the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in line with commitments made under the Doha Agreement, which obligates Afghan Taliban to prevent the use of their soil for attacks against other countries.
According to Mehmood Shah, the alleged involvement of Afghan nationals in recent attacks within KP strongly indicates the continued presence of terrorists training camps inside Afghanistan.
He maintained that repeated violations by Afghan Taliban regime left Pakistan with no option but to respond decisively against terror network inside Afghanistan.
He also said that more than 80 tanks, artillery guns, and armored personnel carriers were destroyed during Pakistan effective retaliatory operations.
Brigadier Mehmood Shah claimed that Afghanistan continues to serve as a safe haven for terrorist groups, adding that several banned TTP operatives released from Afghan prisons after the Taliban takeover in 2021 were now involved in cross-border attacks.
He cited the recent suicide attack in Bajaur, in which 11 security personnel were killed, as evidence of what he described as an Afghan Taliban–TTP nexus backed by India to destabilize Pakistan.
Mehmood Shah said that Afghanistan has remained at the center of geopolitical rivalries since the 1979 Soviet invasion and the 2001 intervention led by the United States.
He said that Pakistan has tried hard to give peace a chance during recent Istanbul talks but the Afghan Taliban’s negative rhetoric made it unsuccessful.
Dr. Adnan Sarwar Khan, former Chairman of International Relations at the University of Peshawar, claimed that the Afghan Taliban were using terrorism as financial leverage in regional politics.
He argued that Pakistan’s demands for dismantling terrorists infrastructure in Afghanistan were consistent and in line with international obligations.
“No country has suffered more from the Afghan conflict than Pakistan,” he said, pointing to decades of hosting over four million Afghan refugees, thousands of casualties from terrorism, and significant economic losses.
Similarly, Dr. Zahid Anwar, Professor of Political Science at the University of Peshawar, condemned the unprovoked  aggression of Afghan Taliban last night and said Pakistan’s military response carried out in self-defence was highly commendable.
He said that Pakistani forces, supported by artillery and the Pakistan Air Force, were fully capable of safeguarding national borders.
He emphasized that lasting regional peace and economic cooperation would remain elusive unless militancy and terrorism was completely eradicated from Afghanistan.
While underscoring Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic outreach efforts, he said the responsibility now lies with Afghan authorities to address terrorism concerns through dialogue rather than continued confrontation.
Experts said that the evolving situation presents a critical moment for regional stability, urging constructive engagement to prevent further escalation.
They said that peace was imperative for regional peace and stability, demanding Afghan Taliban not to become proxy of India and stop transporting terrorism inside Pakistan.
