TIKA conducts weeklong “Search and Rescue Training” in Pakistan
KARACHI, Sep 19 (APP): Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has conducted a week-long “Search and Rescue Basic Training” within the scope of the Emergency and Disaster Response Training Program (ADAMEP) in cooperation with the International Humanitarian Aid Association (IHH) and Sindh Boys Scouts Association.
The training program was held at Sindh Scouts Gulshan Training Center and attended by Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Karachi Cemal Sangu, TIKA Karachi Coordinator Halil Ibrahim Bsaran, Sindh Scouts Chairman Hasan Feroz and others.
Speaking at the program, CG Cemal Sangu said that the disasters experienced in Pakistan, Turkiye and recently in Libya and Morocco further increased the importance of search and rescue activities; therefore, he stated that this training program was very important for both Turkiye and Pakistan and thanked all the institutions that contributed to the organization of the activity.
TIKA Karachi Coordinator Halil Ibrahim Basaran said TIKA gives great importance to search and rescue training.
He said they carried out these trainings in countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon and Bangladesh, in this context, he expressed that they are very pleased to be carrying out the first of several stages of the training program in Pakistan.
Basaran thanked the IHH Search and Rescue team, who came to Pakistan for the training, and the Sindh Scouts, who contributed to the organization of the training, for their contributions, and stated that their cooperation with the Scouts Union, which has volunteers all over Pakistan, will continue.
Sindh Scouts Chief Patron Hasan Feroz said search and rescue activities, which started with the disaster in Kashmir in 2005 were the starting point. He stated that the scouts are the first to respond to disasters and similar situations due to their scouts in all regions of Pakistan, and expressed his gratitude to Turkiye for the training and equipment support to increase the search and rescue capacity of the Sindh Scouts Association.
The training, attended by more than 50 people from Sindh Scouts and Alkhidmat search and rescue volunteers, will continue throughout the week and end with the certificate program on 23 September.
At UN, Turkiye’s Erdogan calls for Kashmir resolution through dialogue
UNITED NATIONS, Sep 19 (APP): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute through dialogue to promote peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia.
In his wide-ranging address to the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, he underscored the need for peace in Kashmir, as he outlined Turkiye’s position on conflicts, including Cyprus, Syria, Yemen, Myanmar and Afghanistan, hoping that peace would prevail.
“Other developments that will pave the way for regional peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia will be the establishment of a just and lasting peace in Kashmir through dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan,” added Erdogan, who makes it a point to refer to Kashmir in his speeches at the UNGA.
On Afghanistan, he said, “The Afghan people, who have been going through difficult times for half a century, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance and support regardless of political motives.”
The president said that transformation of the Afghan interim government into an inclusive administration, in which all segments of society were fairly represented, would pave the way for Afghanistan to be positively received in the international arena.

NEW YORK, Sep 19 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with the President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi wherein he reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to further strengthen and deepen ties with Iran, with particular focus on enhancing cooperation in the economic domain.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Underscoring the close fraternal relations between the two neighboring countries, the prime minister stressed that steps including the recent inauguration of the Mand-Border border marketplace, would not only contribute to the economic uplift of the border areas but also serve as a tangible manifestation of the collective commitment to work for the betterment of the two peoples.
Noting that President Raisi’s policy of ‘Neighborhood First’ was fully aligned with Pakistan’s vision for regional development and connectivity, he emphasised the importance for both countries to leverage their unique geographical location to promote shared objectives of regional peace and prosperity, through greater trade and enhanced regional connectivity.
Pakistan-Iran relations are characterized by regular high-level exchanges, commonality of views on important regional and global issues and strengthened cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
