Minister for strong regulatory system to control artificial price hike
ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): Caretaker Minister for National Food Security & Research Dr Kausar Abdulla Malik on Monday underscored the need for a unified supply chain coupled with a strong regulatory framework to discourage artificial hikes in the prices of food items in the country.
He chaired a meeting of the Agriculture Policy Institute and was also briefed by Director General Abdul Karimon the function of the Institute and its ongoing projects, said a press release.
The minister was informed that the API analyzed the impact of important agricultural policies on groups such as consumers, processors, and exporters and advises on policy adjustments needed for greater efficiency and equity in the country.
Dr Kausar Malik said that the Agriculture Policy Institute should work on a unified comprehensive plan for the food supply chain in consultation with provinces which would pave the way for the control of artificial hike in food prices.
The increase in food prices is the result of a mismatch in demand and supply or hoarding due to weak regulatory frameworks, he said adding that API should come forward with a proposal to activate the Food Security Advisory Council to serve as a bridge between the federation and provinces on the impact of important agricultural policies with special focus on food prices.
The existing market committees in the country need to be reassessed with the cooperation of provinces to identify major issues and gaps at the grassroots level.
213 more power pilferers held in crackdown
KHANEWAL, Sep 25 (APP):Exactly 213 power pilferers are rounded up in operation launched across the district.
An official source from the DC office confirmed that recovery worth seven million rupees is made from the accused people.
A meeting regarding measures against power pilferers was held with DC Wasim Hamid in the chair. DPO Umar Farooq and senior administrative staff attended the meeting.
The DC said the district administration is fully backing the mepco campaign to take down power pilferers.
He said the aforesaid accused of power pilfering are booked with the respective police stations.
DPO said on the occasion that SHOs of the police stations were directed to cooperate with the Mepco teams to unearth people involved in power stealing.
Police are head and shoulder to succeed in the mission carried in the national interest in every nook and corner of the district, he said.

WASA’s daily wagers for provision of officially announced minimum wage
MULTAN, Sep 25 (APP):Daily wage employees of the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) demanded of provision of minimum wages Rs 32,000 as per announcement of Punjab government.
Led by Union leader Munir Hans, the demonstration witnessed the enthusiastic participation of scores of workers who have been yearning for job security over the past six years.
The protestors were carrying banners and placards inscribed with particular demands. Addressing the gathering, Munir Hans, accompanied by speakers Muhammad Kaleem Butt and Kamran Nazir, expressed deep concern over the persistent lack of permanent employment, a situation that casts a constant shadow of unemployment over their lives.
Despite the provincial government officially endorsing a minimum wage of Rs 32,000, the workers are still awaiting their rightful compensation, lamented Hans.
Among the demonstrators were dedicated individuals such as Muhammad Hanif, Abdul Rehman, Nauman Parvez, Afzal Qureshi, Zahid Nazir, Abdul Wahab, Muhammad Fayaz, Zakir Hussain, Muhammad Farooq, Jafar Hans, Hamza Butt, Muhammad Aftab, Aitzazul Haq, Muhammad Mohsin, Mujahid Hussain, Imran Mustafa, Kamran Akmal, and Muhammad Nadeem.
The Daily Wage employees of WASA Department called upon the authorities not only to provide them with job security but also to ensure the full implementation of the minimum wage law.
MDCAT’s successful students protest re-conduct of exam
PESHAWAR, Sep 25 (APP):Scores of students who passed the MDCAT exam on Monday staged a protest in front of the Peshawar Press Club and demanded stern action against the students involved in cheating rather than re-conducting the exam.
A large number of successful students of the MDCAT exam chanted slogans against the cheating mafia and protested the possible re-conduct of the exam.
They said that by re-conducting the MDCAT exam, the future of 46,000 students would be put in jeopardy. They demanded that action be taken against the cheating mafia and students from whom cheating devices were recovered. The students who have passed the exam should not be bothered.
They said re-conducting the exam would create suspicions and demanded an independent inquiry through a judicial commission to thoroughly probe the matter and decide about the course of the future.
They further said that they have clearly passed the exam, which should not be cancelled, adding that the arrested accused should be thoroughly investigated and the responsible should be awarded punishment to avert the recurrence of such a situation in the future. They said if the exam’s results were cancelled, then they would approach the Court of Justice.

Famous classical singer Asad Amanat Ali remembered
ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): Famous classical singer Ustad Asad Amanat Ali Khan was remembered on his birth anniversary on Monday. Son of legendary singer Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, he was born on December 25, 1955, in Lahore.
Asad Amanat recorded his first song when he was only 10 years old. His great-grandfather, Ali Baksh Khan, was the founder of Patiala Gharana and his grandfather Akhtar Hussain was a musician. His uncle Fateh Ali Khan taught him music and trained him as his own son.
Fateh Ali Khan also encouraged him to become a singing duo with his youngest brother Hamid Ali Khan. Asad’s younger brother Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan is a pop and classical singer. Asad Amanat Ali Khan started his musical career performing “Thumri” and performed “Insha Ji Utho” in almost every concert which was originally sung by his father.
Asad Amanat Ali Khan sang over 1,000 songs for Pakistan Television and movie soundtracks, in addition to performing traditional classical music across the world. He was particularly noted for his command over the Ghazal style of singing.
He received the President’s Pride of Performance award in 2007. He died in the same year due to a heart attack on April 8, 2007, in London.
Dengue positive cases crosses 1,000 mark in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI, Sep 25 (APP):The Rawalpindi’s dengue total tally had reached 1,004 positive cases with the arrival of 39 more patients during the last 24 hours.
Chief Executive Officer, of District Health Authority Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, said that 21 patients had arrived from the Potohar town urban area, eight from Municipal Corporation,four from Chaklala Cantonment,three from Taxila Cantonment and three from outsides the district.
He informed that 902 confirmed patients had been discharged after recovery while 129 patients were admitted to the district’s health facilities of which 102 were positive cases.
During the last 24 hours, Dr. Ijaz said that the district administration had registered 40 FIRs, issued tickets to five, sealed one premise, and a fine of Rs 114,000 was imposed against the violations of dengue SOPs.
During indoor surveillance, in the last 24 hours, the teams checked 20,564 houses and larvae were found in 1,234 homes. Similarly, he added that while checking 7,639 places, the teams found larvae at 160 sites during outdoor surveillance.
The CEO asked the residents to adopt precautionary measures as September and October were crucial for dengue spread. He also urged the residents to remove stagnant water, in outdoor and household settings to stop mosquitoes from breeding.
ACP, PTDC to organize sport climbing competitions on World Tourism Day
ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): The Adventure Club Pakistan (ACP) in collaboration with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has organized 13th Sport Climbing Competitions on World Tourism Day at Ibex Club, Lake View Park here on Wednesday.
All the necessary arrangements have been finalized to hold the sports event aimed to promote adventure and outdoor healthy activities in the country, said a news release.
In previous years, the Adventure Club Pakistan had organized lectures and seminars for the promotion of Climbing besides conducting several training and practice sessions of students.
The Club has searched and developed several new sites for climbing viz-a-viz organizing numerous competitions in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, PTDC, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism, Foreign Missions and others.
The club has already organized 17 climbing competitions on International Women Day and 12 climbing competitions on International Mountain Day. Also the Club had already produced some of the finest climbers to win national championships as well as to represent the country in international events.
It is pertinent to mention here, the Adventure Club Pakistan was established in 1994 and it has a vibrant history of diversified activities, however, Wall & Rock Climbing is the specialty of the Club.
