President for enhancing trade, economic, cultural cooperation with Jordan

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday asked Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Jordan to work for further enhancing bilateral cooperation with the brotherly country in the areas of trade, economy, culture, and people-to-people contacts.

He said that Pakistan cherished its close, friendly and fraternal relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan which were rooted in shared religion, culture and history.

Congratulating the Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Jordan, Major General (r) Muhammad Ajmal Iqbal, the president said that Pakistan highly valued its ties with Jordan and wanted to further improve bilateral trade, economic, political and cultural relations for the mutual interest of the two countries.

He expressed satisfaction over the current relations between the two countries, which were marked by warmth and commonality of views on both sides, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.

The president emphasized the need for regular high-level exchanges, including the exchange of parliamentary delegations, holding of Bilateral Political Consultations and Joint Ministerial Commissions to improve socio-political and economic ties.

He appreciated the commonality of views between Pakistan and Jordan on various issues concerning the Islamic world, especially Palestine and Islamophobia, and urged the need to work closely with other Muslim countries on such issues.

The president wished the newly-appointed ambassador success on his new assignment in Amman.

 

 

 

Karachi Stallions clinched KHA U-15 challengers cup title

KARACHI, Sep 26 (APP): The Stallions won the KHA Under -15 Boys Hockey 5As Challengers Cup 2023 by beating Team Dolphins by 3-2 in the final at KHA Sports Complex.
The Tournament is being organized by the Karachi Hockey Association in collaboration with Education and Sports Technologies, a communique said.

Syeda Shehla Raza former Sindh Minister for Women Development and currently the President of the Women Wing of Pakistan Hockey Federation with Olympian Hanif Khan, Haider Hussain Secretary General PHF, Akbar Qaimkhani Secretary General Sindh Hockey Association, and many other guests saw all the matches including the final.

She met all the teams and distributed the prizes to the winners, participants, and officials.

ICC T20 WC 2024 Americas qualifier to get underway in Bermuda

ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (APP): The journey to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA continues, this time, Bermuda opens her doors to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier from September 30 to October 7.
Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands and Panama would battle it out in a double round-robin format, over six days to earn a place in the 2024 edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup – the biggest one yet, featuring 20 teams in total, said a press release.
Bermuda would look to continue their good form after winning the Subregional Qualifier, using their home advantage to return to the biggest stage in men’s T20 cricket, after their historical appearance in 2007.
Canada, arguably the favourites of the event, will look to confirm this and seal their ticket to a new World Cup participation.
The Cayman Islands were a regular fixture in the regional final but are yet to go through, they will push hard to make it this time.
Panama would be the underdogs, as their participation may come as a surprise to many, but with no real pressure on their backs, this could allow them to play freely and upset the main candidates.
This event promises to be a competitive affair, with the four teams confident of their chances of making it through to the main stage.

WPTG marks International Day of Peace

ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (APP):Weaving People to Grow (WPTG) Foundation organized an informative session as part of the International Day of Peace.

The session was moderated by Aaron Rowan and the panelists were Ms. Kiran Peter, the Executive Director, Ms. Sofia Garstin the General Secretary, Ms. Rubina Basharat and Ms. Sheeba of WPTG Foundation while the event was organized by youth volunteers and friends of WPTG Foundation.

The Peace Day was observed around the world on September 21 every year. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening ideals of peace.
A total of 44 community members participated in the event, they were informed about the importance of peaceful coexistence in Pakistan and how we need to embrace each other and be compassionate with one another no matter what sect, religion, race or economic status we belong to. Pakistan has to be strengthened from inside by uniting with each other to grow multi-dimensionally.

Ms. Kiran also explained about their free Non-Formal Education Centre running since June 2023 and said we were providing free education to children with moral learning based on the concepts of honesty, forgiveness and compassion because we want to see our future leaders with these qualities. The children and the parents also appreciated and expressed their gratitude for the efforts made by the staff members of the organization.

The organization was also running a skill development centre (WPTG Foundation’s Beauticians Training Centre) for women working in homes and getting lowest wages.

The trainer of the skill development centre, Ms. Sofia Garstin articulated peace cannot be prevailed with empty stomachs, therefore, besides advocating and fostering peace skill development and becoming economically sustainable was also very important.

PM lauds British Pakistani diaspora for their contributions

LONDON, Sept 26 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday commended the dynamic British Pakistani diaspora for their significant contributions to both countries’ development and urged them to consider the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a valuable platform for investments in key sectors.

The prime minister attended a dinner reception hosted in his honour by Lord Zameer Choudrey at the House of Lords, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The event was attended by a large number of British parliamentarians from various parties and a select group of prominent members from the Pakistani community.

In his address, the caretaker prime minister assured the audience of Pakistan’s resilience in the face of economic and political challenges, emphasizing the nation’s strategic importance and youthful population.

Regarding Pakistan’s democratic process, he reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to democratic ideals, emphasizing the importance of an inclusive, free, and transparent election process.

The caretaker prime minister expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and underscored the enduring Pakistan-UK relationship grounded in shared values and aspirations.

The reception ended with a Q&A session, during which Prime Minister Kakar gave insightful replies to the questions from the British parliamentarians. The event offered a great opportunity for a constructive dialogue on issues of shared interests.

Power suspension in Peshawar notified

PESHAWAR, Sep 26 (APP):Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on Tuesday notified that due to maintenance work power supply will remain suspended from Peshawar City Grid Station on 27th September from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Consequently, it said that consumers of 11KV Sikandar Pura, Lala, Hashtnaghari, Chugulpura, Chamkani, Jhagra, Radio Pakistan, Sethi Town, Gulbahar, Zaryab, Pandho Road, City Homes, Baghbanan, Urmar, Islamabad, Faqir Abad, Shiekh Abad, Molve Je, Nishtar Abad and NHA, feeders will face inconvenience.
The power supply will also remain suspended from Peshawar Cantt Grid Station on 27th September from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. resultantly consumers of 11 KV Tehkal, Islamia College, KTH, Commercial, Jahangirabad, University Town, NCB, Airport, PAF Base, Saddar Road, Mall Road, MES 1,2, Old MCS, Babo Ghari, Marble Industry, CAA, Palosi 1, Behari Colony, Tehkal Payan, Bank of Khyber, Scarp 1 feeders will face inconvenience.
The power supply will remain suspended from Pesco Colony Grid Station on 27th September from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. resultantly the consumers of ICF, Darmangai, Warsak Road, Shagai, KSM feeders will face inconvenience.

Balochistan’s development depends on utilizing its mineral resource : Sarfaraz Bugti

ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (APP): Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday said that full utilization of mineral resources was needed for the development of Balochistan and situation in the province could be improved by increasing political commitment and capacity.

Addressing a concluding ceremony of a seminar titled “Balochistan Rural Development and Community Empowerment,” the minister thanked European contributors on behalf of people of Pakistan for holding the event.

He asked the European union to continue its efforts for holding such informative seminars which could help to sensitize people of the province living in remote areas.

The minister said said that non- Balanced development was the problem of all developing countries and politics over this issue was not the solution to the problem.

He said that the country would have to focus on plan for development of our new generation.

The minister said that everyone should hold themselves accountable before pointing a finger at anyone.

“I belong to a rural area. When the state gave me an opportunity, I reached this position through hard work.” he said adding that every individual could got opportunities and success through hard work.

Later, the minister also participated in the High Achievers Awards ceremony organized by Roots International Schools and Colleges.
Addressing the function, he congratulated the best performing students, adding the high performing students had achieved the success through their hard work.

Two robbers held after encounter

MULTAN, Sep 26 (APP):Two bandits were booked for looting money worth Rs. 500,000 in the past, and were arrested in injured condition after an encounter, police said.
As per details, police received a phone call at 2:00 a.m. as four bandits snatched money worth Rs. 25000 with a mobile phone from a passerby before escaping to an unknown location. Upon information, Gulghast police station constituted a team that cordoned off the area and started checking by holding pickets.
When the police stopped a convoy of four motorbikes, one of the riders opened fire. In retaliation, the two suspected accused got injured by police while their fellows fled the scene. Police further extended the peg of checking to arrest the fleeing accomplices but in vain.
The arrested burgers were identified as Mohammed Bilal, son of Yaqoob, resident of Bihari, and Mohammad Asif, son of Barley, resident of Mati Tal.
Police claimed to have recovered two bags stuffed with three million rupees and Rs. 25,000 each with two pistols and as many mobile phones from their possession.
The held criminals were stated to be involved in dacoity, kidnap, and theft-like crimes in the city.
Gulghast police station registered a case with further investigation is underway.

A large number of students from 40 institutions all over the Pakistan participated in the contest.Punjab University won the general trophy.
In Qiraat male contest, Faisal Bin Amjad (Punjab University) won 1st position, Khuzaima Shakir (Government Collage University Lahore) got 2nd while Inam-ul-Haq (University of Education) and Abdul Arslan (Superior University) both stood on 3rd position while  Hafiza Faiza Rasool (Punjab University) won 1st position, Khansa Faisal (University of Agriculture) got 2nd while Amna Amjad (Fatima Jinnah Medical University) stood on 3rd position in Qiraat female contest.
