Sidra Foundation organizes blood donation camp in Capital

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP):Sidra Foundation, in collaboration with Blood Chain Pakistan, ATWA, and Jamila Sultana Foundation, organized a blood donation camp in the federal capital on Tuesday.
The camp was held in the Blue Area, Islamabad, to collect blood for patients suffering from thalassemia, who require regular blood transfusions every two to three weeks.
In an exclusive interview with APP, the Founder of Sidra Foundation, Rehan Khan, said that the collected blood would be used to support thalassemia patients who are in constant need of transfusions. “I request everyone to come forward and donate blood to help save the lives of these patients,” he said.

Member of the Board of Governors (BoG) of Blood Chain Pakistan, Engr. Kamran Khan told APP that the organization is operating across the country and has deputed more than 50 volunteers at the central location in Islamabad to support the cause.
He emphasized the importance of blood donation, stating that donors undergo major screening tests, including blood grouping and screening for Hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, syphilis, and malaria, which help them assess their own health status.
He further highlighted the health benefits of blood donation, saying it helps regulate body weight and reduces the risk of heart attacks and other life-threatening diseases. “Blood donation is Sadqa-e-Jaria, and a single donation can save up to three lives,” he added.
Engr Kamran Khan urged the public to donate blood every three months to maintain good health and support those in need. He appealed to citizens to actively participate in this noble cause.
A large number of people visited the camp and voluntarily donated blood. Free screening for five major tests was also provided to all blood donors.

Ghotki abduction: Police operation ongoing in Katcha area

SUKKUR, Dec 16 (APP): A police operation led by DIG Faisal Abdullah Chachar is underway in Ghotki’s katcha area to rescue abducted passengers. SSPs from Ghotki, Khairpur, and Sukkur are involved, with armored vehicles and modern technology being used.
According to a statement on Tuesday, 14 abductees have been rescued so far. One abductee died of a heart attack, while a police officer was injured and shifted to Rahim Yar Khan hospital. Two dacoits are reportedly injured.
The operation will continue until the dacoits are eliminated, with all routes to the katcha area blocked, hindering their escape.

Minister Wajiha Qamar pays tribute to APS Peshawar martyrs

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP):On the anniversary of the Army Public School (APS) Peshawar attack, Minister of State for Federal Education & Professional Training, Wajiha Qamar, paid tribute to the martyrs, including children and teachers who lost their lives on 16 December 2014.
In her message on Tuesday, she said that the APS Peshawar attack remains a tragic chapter in Pakistan’s history, leaving the nation in deep mourning, describing the sacrifice of the innocent students and teachers as a permanent mark on the nation’s conscience.
She noted that they gave their lives in pursuit of knowledge, peace and a brighter future for the homeland.
She noted that despite the deep sorrow, the tragedy united the nation against terrorism.
 “Today, we renew our resolve that the state, institutions, and people will continue their collective struggle until extremism is eliminated,” she said.
Highlighting the importance of education, Qamar emphasized the commitment to provide every child in Pakistan with a safe and dignified learning environment.
 “The sacrifices of the martyrs symbolize our courage and will never be in vain,” she added.
She prayed that Allah Almighty grant the martyrs a high place in Paradise, bless their families with patience, and make Pakistan a cradle of peace and stability.

ICCI welcomes FBR’s decision to hold in abeyance property valuation table

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP):Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has welcomed the decision of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to re-evaluate and hold in abeyance the property valuation table issued on December 8, 2025 for District Islamabad, terming it a timely and business-friendly step.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, while talking to various visiting delegations from industry, trade and the real estate sector here on Tuesday, said that the suspended valuation table reflected values many times higher than the actual market rates, which had created panic and uncertainty among the business community as well as residents of the federal capital.
He appreciated the intervention of Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Chairman FBR, saying that their timely action was taken in the best economic interest of the country and helped restore confidence among investors and stakeholders.
Sardar Tahir Mehmood emphasized that the latest decision of the FBR clearly demonstrates that constructive engagement and unity of the business community can lead to positive and practical outcomes.
He urged traders and industrialists to remain united for the attainment of a true ease-of-doing-business environment, which he said is vital for economic stability and sustainable growth.
He further expressed confidence that all policies and decisions affecting businesses would henceforth be made in close consultation with the business community, which he termed the real engine of Pakistan’s economy.
He added that consultative policymaking would help restore confidence, encourage investment and broaden the tax base.
On the occasion, Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Irfan Chaudhry also expressed satisfaction over the decision to hold the notification in abeyance.
They hoped that not only the FBR but also the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other relevant government agencies would ensure that all future decisions are taken keeping in view ground realities and genuine concerns of the business community.

Pakistan, Uzbekistan reaffirm commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP): Pakistan and Uzbekistan have reaffirmed their strong commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, which are deeply rooted in shared history, culture, religion, and common values.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment during a meeting held here Tuesday between Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), Ms. Misbah Khar and Senator Husan Ermatov of the Senate of Uzbekistan, said a press release.

Ms Misbah Khar emphasized that Pakistan attaches high importance to its growing relationship with Uzbekistan and expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral ties and the expanding scope of cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
Highlighting recent diplomatic developments, Ms. Misbah Khar termed the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Tashkent as a milestone, noting that it opened new avenues of collaboration.
She underscored the significance of the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding, the establishment of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, and the adoption of a comprehensive Road Map with clear timelines as major achievements in bilateral engagement.
Parliamentary cooperation was emphasized as a key pillar of Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations. FCCP halts publication of headmasters’ recruitment results in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP):The Federal Constitutional Court on Tuesday heard a petition concerning the recruitment of headmasters in Balochistan. A three-member bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan directed that the names of successful candidates for headmasters’ posts should not be published until further orders.
The court issued notices to the Government of Balochistan and the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC), seeking their replies. During the hearing, petitioner Fahim Khan was represented by his counsel Amanullah.
The petitioner raised objections to the recruitment process for headmasters’ posts in the education department, arguing that ineligible candidates were allowed to appear in the examination by ignoring the mandatory requirement of a B.Ed degree, in violation of the prescribed rules and regulations.
The petition further alleged that the Balochistan Public Service Commission failed to adhere to the conditions set out in its own advertisement issued in December 2024.
After issuing notices to the respondents, the court adjourned further hearing of the case to a later date.

UoS hosts 18 activities on second day of Research Arena 2025:

SARGODHA, Dec 16 (APP):The University of Sargodha (UoS) organized more than 18 academic, research, and community-oriented activities on the second day of its Annual Research Arena 2025, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to research excellence and interdisciplinary engagement.
The day commenced with the inauguration of two major international conferences. The 3rd International Conference on Advancing Food Systems for a Sustainable and Nourished Future was opened with Vice Chancellor UoS, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, as the chief guest, while Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen, Vice Chancellor of GC University Faisalabad, attended as the guest of honour. The conference brought together national and international scholars to deliberate on food security, nutrition innovation, and the development of sustainable agri-food systems.
Addressing the conference, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas underscored the pivotal role of research and development (R&D) and innovation in driving economic growth, technological progress, and sustainable solutions. In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen praised the visionary leadership of the UoS Vice Chancellor and highlighted the impact of globalization on food markets and changing consumer behavior.
Simultaneously, the 11th International Wheat Conference 2025, hosted by the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, College of Agriculture, focused on genetic improvement, climate resilience, and future challenges in wheat production. The chief guest, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, emphasized the need for innovative breeding strategies and strengthened international collaboration to enhance wheat productivity and ensure food security.

Moreover, the Department of Urdu Language and Literature hosted a community engagement session titled “We Need Dialogues: Intersection of Literature, Culture, and Society in Pakistan,” fostering meaningful intellectual discourse on cultural narratives and social issues.

PNCA showcases emerging calligraphic talent at NOOR-E-QALAM students’ exhibition

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP):The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Tuesday inaugurated the NOOR-E-QALAM Calligraphy Students’ Exhibition at the National Art Gallery, presenting a refined collection of works created by students of a six-month calligraphy course.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Farha Naz Akber, Parliamentary Secretary, National Heritage and Culture Division, who lauded the artistic quality and spiritual depth reflected in the students’ work.
She said the elegant depiction of Quranic verses and the artistic rendering of the beautiful names of Allah demonstrate the students’ dedication, discipline, and growing mastery of the traditional art form.
Expressing her appreciation, the chief guest noted that initiatives like NOOR-E-QALAM play a vital role in preserving Pakistan’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.
She voiced confidence that the young calligraphers would go on to represent Pakistan at national and international platforms through their creative excellence.

Rubina Khalid condoles demise of former Punjab CM, Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo

In her condolence message, Senator Rubina Khalid said that the late Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo was a seasoned and visionary politician who rendered valuable services to Punjab and national politics.
