‘Momentous win’ for Pakistan COP27’s accord on Loss and Damage fund: Munir Akram

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 20 (APP): Pakistan’s UN Ambassador, Munir Akram, described as “momentous win” for Pakistan and the developing countries
Sunday’s agreement at COP27 Climate Summit in Egypt to establish Loss and Damage fund to help poor nations being battered by climate disasters.

“A momentous win for Pakistan and the developing countries,” Ambassador Akram said, when asked for comments by APP correspondent.

He called the agreement the “fruits of political clarity, unity, and perseverance.”

In his remarks at COP27’s opening session in Sharm El-Sheikh, Ambassador Munir Akram, as Chairman of G77 and China, highlighted that the group was united in its demand for the establishment of a dedicated finance facility to provide new and additional financial support to developing countries for addressing ‘loss and damage’ associated with the adverse impacts of climate change.

People to hold accountable those trying to impede LG polls in AJK: Tanveer

MIRPUR ( AJK )Nov 20 (APP):: Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan has said that no one can impede the local government elections scheduled to be held in AJK on November 27 after a long pause of over 31 years.

Talking to public delegations and media representatives in Bagh, he said the masses would hold such elements accountable that had been trying to jeopardize LG elections, said a release received here on Sunday.

“Power is going to be transferred to the people at the grassroots level through the scheduled civic election”, the AJK PM said, adding that whomsoever opposed the LG elections would be considered enemies of the people.

The AJK PM said his government would fulfill the pre-election commitments it had made with the people.

He urged the party workers not to pay heed to rumors and fake news being spread and circulated through social media.

“Political workers, regardless of their political affiliation, have the right to contest elections and play their role in nation building”, he said, it was quite heartening to see that the municipal polls were being held and the devolution of power was going to take place in the state after 31 years.

Tanveer further said that there was no security issue in AJK during the scheduled LG elections.

“The people of AJK will not allow anyone to disturb the law and order situation during the polls”, he said, adding that the entire nation should support the government in holding the elections to foil the designs of those people who were against the transfer of power to the lower level.

COAS visits Lasbella; inaugurates prefabricated village for flood victims

RAWALPINDI, Nov 20 (APP):Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday visited Lasbella, Balochistan where he inaugurated prefabricated village in Lal Gul Goth constructed for the area’s flood affected people who had lost their homes.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release, Village Laal Gul Goth was badly devastated in recent floods with live stock, personal belongings of people lost and basic infrastructure completely destroyed.

The new village includes a primary school, is lit by off grid solar power and also provided with a tube well. Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) completed this project in record time as this was promised to the villagers by the Pakistan Army.

The COAS was briefed by Major General Kamal Azfar, Director General FWO about the progress of rehabilitation work for the flood affectees.

The COAS met teachers and students of the newly renovated primary school at Lal Gul Goth, and the local villagers.

The army chief said, “Pakistan Army will continue its efforts to expedite the rehabilitation process being undertaken with the support of Federal and provincial governments.”

High ranking Civil and Military Officials were also present on the occasion.

Later, the COAS interacted with the troops of Quetta Corps, FWO, Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan and Pakistan Coast Guards and appreciated their efforts during rescue, relief and rehabilitation process in recent floods.

Lieutenant General Inam Haider, Chairman NDMA and Lieutenant General Kashif Nazir, Engineer in Chief, accompanied the COAS during the visit.

Earlier on arrival, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor, Commander Quetta Corps.

CM congratulates Pakistani cricket team for becoming top ODI team in world

QUETTA, Nov 20 (APP):Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo on Sunday approved the establishment of an e-service center under the Department of Science and Information Technology (IT) in Quetta and gave approval for releasing of Rs 51.075 million for the project.

He approved the summary sent by the Department of Science and Technology and said the project was an important step towards good governance as it would help ensuring transparency.

“By establishing an e-service center, it will be possible to provide better services to the citizens in a short time and increase the government’s revenue, he added.

The CM said under the e-service project, 20 online services would be provided to the citizens under one roof, adding that the formation of the center would improve the execution of government affairs directly related to the people.

He said that the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) of the current financial year included plans to establish e-service centers in Quetta, Gwadar, Khuzdar and Loralai.

“The establishment of e-service centers is another important achievement of the current government under the leadership of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo”, he noted.

Tasneem Haider has no relation with PML-N: Marriyum

ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday said that Tasneem Haider had no relation with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“Tasneem Haider is not a spokesman of PML-N London,” she said in a news statement, and added that nobody should try to become spokesperson of the party.

Marriyum said Tasneem Haider should produce evidence regarding murder of Arshad Sharif before the Joint Investigation Team, if he had any.

She said the person, who hurled allegations in a video clip circulating in different sections of media, was organiser of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s London chapter. “Forgery, lies and fake news cannot divert attention from the real killers of Arshad Sharif,” she stressed.

The minister challenged the ARY News to air such news in London. It would not dare to broadcast fake news in London as their management had already been fined for such misadventures in the past, she said.

KARACHI, Nov 20 (APP): Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque has said that the upcoming elections will take place in August 2023 after the completion of Census in March.

While addressing the launching ceremony of Pakistan Social Media Association (PSMA) at Newports Institute of Communication and Economics here on Sunday, he said that the Information Technology (IT) industry was growing rapidly.

The federal minister said connectivity was very significant in the present era for the development and prosperity of any country.
He said 70 projects of worth Rs 65 billion had been initiated to improve connectivity in the country so the people could continue their work smoothly.

Amin Ul Haque said after assuming the charge of IT Minister, he started working on establishing mobile manufacturing plants and succeeded in it. He further said that currently there were 22 mobile manufacturing plants in the country.

He said that IT industry was developing and people were being provided with e-banking, e-health and e-agriculture facilities.

He said the federal government had made Green Line Bus project operational for the citizens of Karachi.

Hyderabad University would commence its classes in December 2022 or January 2023, he added.

Amin Ul Haque speaking on PSMA, said that they would be provided with trainers for the proper training of Pakistani youtubers and would be ready for their support to get them recognized.

Earlier, Co-Chairperson of Newports Institute of Communication and Economics Zainab Taiyyeba aka Huma Bukhari while congratulating the PSMA said that Newports Institute would always facilitate people in their efforts.

She said that It was the era of IT, where one could establish their blogs, vlogs and perform other activities to get recognition.

CM meets Honorary Consul General of Pakistan in America Shahid Ahmed Khan

LAHORE, Nov 20 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi met with the Honorary Consul General of Pakistan in America Shahid Ahmed Khan at his office here on Sunday, in which matters pertaining to mutual interest and investment possibilities came under discussion.

It was decided to undertake essential steps for the promotion of business-to-business relations.
The chief minister, while talking on this occasion said that necessary steps would be taken jointly with the American multinational companies for the transfer of technology. He said that Punjab would take a lead in the IT business export by launching the microchip technology.

The CM said that with the collaboration of Silicon Valley Boston, the IT sector in Punjab would be promoted. The chief minister disclosed that in order to further develop IT universities of Punjab collaboration would be made with the American IT universities. Pakistan and America will have more cordial relations in the coming days, he added.

Shahid Ahmed Khan said that the chief minister was taking commendable steps in the health sector adding that the Rescue 1122 was an unforgettable project of Parvez Elahi.

He further acknowledged that the CM by launching the relief work during the flood took a lead. The council general said that youth was the biggest asset of Pakistan adding that we would give full support to impart IT technology and training.

The Pakistanis residing in America were ready to make an investment in Punjab, he added.

Pak, UNESCO agree to establish joint excellence centre in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (APP): Pakistan and UNESCO have agreed to work out for establishment of PAK-UNESCO Joint Centre of Excellence in Teachers Training and STEAM Learning at Islamabad.

It has been decided during a bilateral meeting held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan between the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer Hussain, with Ms. Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director General for Education UNESCO.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of II World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education, said a press release yesterday.

Ms. Giannini was previously Senator and Minister for Education, Universities and Research, Italy.

Rana Tanveer Hussain informed about Pakistan’s resolute commitment to overcome the major challenges in education sector and mainly in the areas of Out of School Children, Girls Education, urgent actions required to mitigate learning losses, Quality of Education referring to (pedagogy skills, faculty development & governance issues), introducing & embedding Skills learning in mainstream Education as well as use of technology & STEM to assist the conventional mode of education.

He also emphasized on the damage caused by the recent unprecedented floods with recovery cost in education sector around USD918 million.

Mr. Tanveer urged that various interventions were made in partnership with UNESCO, however, the focus shall be on major challenges with one or two high impact targeted interventions instead of low impact scattered collaborations in different areas.

The minister ensured that Pakistan will make all out efforts to ensure inclusive and equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities as in light of SDG-4 as well as commitments made in Bangkok declaration and recently held Transforming Education Summit at UN HQs.

While considering the importance of teachers’ training and STEAM education, he proposed for Pak-UNESCO Joint Centre of Excellence (CoE) in teachers training and STEAM learning at Islamabad, which will be established with the support of UNESCO. The said Centre will mainly focus of early childhood & primary education.

Ms. Stefania Giannini informed that UNESCO has been doing its best to support Pakistan’s education sector along with its other partners (UNICEF, WFP, WHO etc) in emergencies. She appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to address the educational challenges faced by the country.

She also assured for mobilizing the global partners to provide all possible assistance to Pakistan’s education sector.

Ms. Stefania Giannini welcomed the proposal of Pakistan’s Education Minister for establishment of Pak-UNESCO CoE.

The Director of UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education informed that the said proposal/project will be covered under the component of learning recovery and education for all of the Bangkok declaration, for which Pakistan will submit its formal proposal.

Both sides decided to further engage on the level of technical teams for working out the modalities regarding the principally agreed establishment of Pak-UNESCO Joint Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Teachers Training and STEAM learning at Islamabad.

It was also agreed that UNESCO will enhance its efforts for capacity building of the officials of Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU), whereas Pakistan’s Education Ministry will ensure adequate workforce at PNCU. Both sides also agreed to engage on possibility of holding an International Conference in Pakistan in a mutually agreed area in line with SDG-4.

FM felicitates Qatar on hosting FIFA World Cup 2022

ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (APP): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday congratulated Qatar for being the first Muslim country to host FIFA World Cup 2022.

On his Twitter handle, the foreign minister said that Pakistan was proud for its contribution to the security of the event. Workforce from Pakistan had been a major contributor in the development of facilities, he further added.

The FIFA World Cup kicked off in Qatar on Sunday with an impressive inaugural ceremony. The host country’s national soccer team took on Ecuador in the opening fixture.

Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has projected that about five billion people are expected to tune in, thus making the month’s long event as the most-watched-sports spectacle in the world.
