ANF seizes over 1011 kg drugs worth US$18.42m

RAWALPINDI, Jan 10 (APP): Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Pakistan has seized 1011.977 kg drug, 15 bottles of alcohol and 122 canes of beer worth US$18.42 million internationally, arrested 26 accused including a woman and an Afghan national, impounded 10 vehicles while conducting 23 counter-narcotics operations throughout the country during last week.

According to an ANF Headquarters spokesman, the seized drugs comprised 14.896 kg heroin, 831.726 kg hashish, 11.155 kg methamphetamine (ice), 115.200 kg opium, 39 kg poppy straw, 15 bottles alcohol and 122 canes beer.

He informed that ANF Balochistan recovered 307 kg of drugs in two operations while arresting three persons including an Afghan national involved in drugs smuggling and impounded a vehicle. The seized drugs comprised 306 kg hashish and one kg methamphetamine (ice).

ANF Punjab recovered 85.7 kg of drugs in three operations while arresting five persons involved in drug smuggling and impounded a vehicle. The seized drugs comprised 26.7 kg opium, 2.9 kg heroin and 56.4 kg hashish.

ANF KPK recovered 4.8 kg of methamphetamine (ice) in two operations and arrested two persons involved in drugs smuggling.

ANF Sindh recovered 162.31 kg of drugs, 15 bottles of alcohol and 122 canes of beer in four operations and arrested three accused including a woman involved in smuggling and impounded two vehicles. The seized drugs comprised 9.6 kg opium, 0.150 kg heroin, 150 kg hashish and 2.560 kg methamphetamine (Ice).

ANF North recovered 452.167 kg drugs in 12 operations, arrested 13 persons involved in smuggling and impounded six vehicles. The seized drugs comprised 11.846 kg heroin, 319.326 kg hashish, 79.200 kg opium, 2.795 kg methamphetamine (Ice) and 39 kg poppy straw.

All cases have been registered at respective ANF Police Stations and further investigations are under process.

OGHI, Jan 10 (APP): At least one passenger died and nine others were injured when a jeep fell into a deep gorge reportedly due to a brake failure at village Dhoge near Bandi Shingli Oghi on Tuesday.

According to police sources, the jeep, which was heading towards Bai Bala from Shingli Bandi Oghi, skidded off the road and plunged into the gorge when its driver lost his control over it due to the brake failure.

A woman, wife of Haroon, died on the spot, while the injured included four men and five women. Four of the critically injured, including the jeep driver Taj Muhammad, Ejaz, and two women were shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad.

NA body pass ‘Imports, Exports (Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2022’

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10 (APP): The Standing Committee on Commerce on Tuesday unanimously passed the Imports and Exports (Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2022.

“The Imports and Exports (Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (Government Bill) as introduced in the National Assembly may be passed,” the committee unanimously recommended.

The committee met on Tuesday afternoon in the Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of MNA Khursheed Ahmed Junejo to discuss the performance of the Ministry of Commerce and its attached departments.

The committee, while discussing the performance of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), directed that M/o Commerce may introduce an appraisal system for commercial attaches and bound them to achieve the targets set by the government so that Pakistani exports could advance in a prompt way.

The committee directed that M/o Commerce may launch a proper print and electronic media campaign to give access to Pakistani traders in international markets so that they could sell their products in international markets to grab maximum revenue for the country.

The committee, therefore, decided to invite Secretary Finance and Secretary Industries & Production so that concrete measures could be adopted to expand the network of Pakistani exports worldwide.

Earlier, Special Secretary M/o Commerce and Secretary TDAP briefly apprised the committee about the efforts made to enhance Pakistani exports and the problems faced by them in this regard.

They sought the support of the committee in resolving their issues especially the enhancement of the budget.

The meeting was attended by MNA Rasheed Ahmed Khan, MNA Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, MNA Syed Javed Ali Shah Jilani, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, MNA Wajiha Qamar, MNA Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, and senior officers of the concerned ministry and departments.
