Governor emphasizes labors' role in economic development

LAHORE, Feb 20 (APP): Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has said that economic stability is vital to the development and prosperity of a country.

Talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) during a meeting at the Governor’s House here on Monday, he said the current government is utilizing all resources and making strenuous efforts for the improvement of the economy.


President ICCI Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari led delegation presented different demands to the Governor Punjab besides sharing the difficulties faced by the business community.


Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman said business community is playing an important role in the national economy as well as creating new opportunities for employment and business for people.


The Governor Punjab said role of businessmen in philanthropy is also commendable, adding that the business community sent relief goods worth billions of rupees to the flood victims from the Governor’s House.


He said continuity of policies in the country is very important to bolster economy of country, adding ghat the countries where continuity of policies persisted for years achieved miraculous development.


He said Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) always underlined the need for Charter of Democracy (CoD) which is very important for strengthening economy of the country.


The Governor Punjab said doors of Governor’s House are always open for the business community, adding that he met with many delegations of the business community and conveyed their problems to the concerned circles.


President ICCI Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari said due to the economic condition, businessmen are going through a difficult time. He said the government should also take the representatives of the business community on board while making policies related to the industry and there should be continuity of policies to promote business activities in the country.


He also demanded land for industrial estate in Islamabad and completion of Rawalpindi Ring Road project.
The delegation also invited Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehma to visit Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.


The President ICCI presented a memento to Governor Punjab on behalf of the institution.


President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, Senior Vice President Faad Waheed, Vice President M Azharul Islam Zafar, Chairman Founder Group Khalid Iqbal Malik, former President Khalid Javed, Secretary General Majid Shabbir and other executive members constituted the delegation.

IHC to take up Imran’s petition against addition of terrorism clauses in FIR

IHC seeks arguments in contempt plea against Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday fixed a petition of PTI’s chief Imran Khan for hearing tomorrow, seeking to remove terrorism sections from FIR pertaining protests outside of ECP building after decision in toshakhana case.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Mohsin Akhter Kayani and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri would take up the case for hearing tomorrow along with the objections raised by the registrar office.

The registrar office had raised three objects against the petition including missing of Imran Khan’s biometric verification and not attaching of documents of ATC. The registrar office also said that the case should have been filed before the trial court which was a relevant forum.

The petitioner had prayed the court in his plea to suspend the operation of the FIR till the final judgment of the court. He said that a peaceful protest was right of every citizen.

The petition was moved by Faisal Chaudhry Advocate and Ali Bokhari Advocate on behalf of PTI’s chief.
It may be mentioned here that the anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Islamabad had dismissed the interim bail of Imran Khan due to his continuous non-appearance in the case.

80 Pakistani companies showcase their products at Gulfood2023

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): The 28th edition of Gulfood, the world’s largest food and beverage trade event, is currently taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with over 5,000 companies from more than 125 countries participating in the event.

80 companies from Pakistan are showcasing their products, including 45 companies under the umbrella of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

The Pakistan Pavilion was inaugurated on Monday by M. Zubair Motiwala, the Chief Executive of TDAP, accompanied by Hassan Afzal Khan, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai, and Adeem Khan, Commercial Counsellor.

Pakistan is showcasing a diverse range of food products at the event, such as rice, confectionery, beverages, poultry, and spices.

The country’s participation in Gulfood provides an opportunity for Pakistani exhibitors to explore new buyers for a wide range of food and agro sector products, including fresh and frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, sauces, nuts, sweets, confectionery, and tea, Emirates News agency reported.

This event is an important platform for Pakistan, as the UAE is among the country’s top export partners and largest trading partner in the MENA region.

Through regular participation and constant efforts, Pakistan has successfully expanded its market for processed meat, herbal products, and fruits and vegetables in the region, said a press release of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai.

The Pakistani products showcased at Gulfood assure quality and freshness, and buyers can leverage Pakistan’s cost-competitiveness, lower transport costs, and short delivery time, it added.

Govt. taking tangible steps to strengthen country’s economy: PM

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that the government was taking tangible and necessary steps to strengthen the economy and prioritizing reduction in unnecessary imports by enhancing exports.

The prime minister said that the incumbent government also faced the issues of mismanagement of the previous government, adding still in the face of such issues, the government was committed to improving the country’s economy with strenuous efforts.

The prime minister was talking to a delegation of Rothschild and Co, one of the world’s largest independent financial advisory groups, that called on him, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Finance Dr Ayesha Ghous Pasha and other relevant officials.

Talking to the delegation, the prime minister mentioned that Pakistan faced natural calamity in the shape of recent floods spurred by the worst climate changes.

The delegation termed the economic situation in Pakistan as stable and said that its talented manpower was its real strength.

The present government was taking steps to take the economy on the right path, they observed.

They also commended Pakistan Stock Exchange as among the best-performing stocks in the region. Pakistan had also created awareness, in an effective manner, about the impacts of the climate changes at the global level, they said.
