ECP finalises arrangements for repolling in 15 Sindh districts

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP):Arrangements have been finalized for repolling in 15 districts of Sindh on Sunday, in response to allegations of irregularities in the previous local government (LG) elections.

The repolling is being held for the seats of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Member District Council, and General Members, to address allegations of irregularities in the previous elections on the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Supreme Court following the allegations of irregularities.

A total of 109,687 voters are registered to cast their votes in the 15 districts, with 59,310 male and 50,377 female voters among them.

A total of 15 district returning officers, 26 returning officers, and 52 assistant returning officers have been deployed to conduct the local government polls.

A total of 81 polling stations have been established across 15 districts, including 21 for men, 22 for women, and 38 combined stations for both male and female voters.

As many as 275 polling booths have been set up in 15 districts of Sindh for the upcoming local government polls. Of these, 140 booths are designated for male voters, 135 for female voters, and 275 are combined booths for both genders.
This move is aimed at upholding the principles of democracy and addressing any concerns regarding the previous elections.

Repolling for local government elections will be held on Sunday in the districts include Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qamber Shahdadkot, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, and Badin.

KARACHI, Mar 25 (APP): Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori on Saturday said that he would write a letter to the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to increase 35 percent in salaries of government employees to meet the growing prices.

He said that private organizations and media houses should also increase the salaries of the employees as the people were experiencing very tough time.

While addressing a press conference at Governor House, he said that the entire country was facing a storm of inflation and strict action was necessary against the hoarders and profiteers in the holy month of Ramadan.

Kamran Tessori said they had announced a week ago that they would fight against the storm of inflation and had thought they would ensure essential commodities at the doorsteps of the people and considered to set up bachat bazaars.

After that, Commissioner Karachi in consultation with stakeholders announced an ordinance to bring prices at normal level but unfortunately, when yesterday ‘I suddenly visited Empress Market and met a man’, he said that potatoes were being sold at Rs 70 instead of Rs 35 and when I (Governor) asked the shopkeeper then he said that they were purchasing it at higher rates.

The Governor said that another person told him that if they (Governor and the government) could not implement the official price list then why it was issued.

He directed the officers concerned to check official rates, instead of sitting in their homes.

He further said that Commissioner Karachi, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Administrator Karachi had been directed to check rate lists along with their teams.

Gold prices decreased by Rs 1,800 to Rs 203,900 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs.1,800 and was sold at Rs. 203,900 on Saturday against its sale at Rs. 205,700 the previous day, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs. 1,543 to Rs.176,355 from Rs.177,898, whereas the price of 10 grams 22 karat gold went down to Rs.161,658 from Rs. 163,073.

However, the price of per tola silver increased by Rs. 30 to close at Rs. 2,250 and the ten-gram silver surged by Rs. 25.71 to close at Rs.1929.

The price of gold in the international market dipped by US$19 to $1978 against its sale at $1997, the association reported.

MIRPUR (AJK) Mar 25 (APP): The AJK State authorities are ensuring special Ramazan Bazars in various major cities and towns with the provision of an adequate supply of edibles to the general consumers at subsidized rates during the Holy month of Ramazan.

On the special directives of the state government to all district administration of the state, the administration has launched special Ramazan Bazars in various parts of the district including one in front of MUST University’s city campus at central Allama Iqbal Road.

Deputy Commissioner Ch. Amjad Iqbal told APP, here on Saturday, that in Mirpur city, the main Ramazan Bazars had been set up at Allama Iqbal Road and central Nàngi area where all quality edibles would be available at inexpensive rates as compared to the general market, fixed by the district price control committee.

The vendors at Ramazan bazaars will be bound to display the rate lists of the commodities, determined by the authorities, at a visible place at their sale points from 8.30am in the morning, he said.

When questioned that what preventive steps were being taken by the administration to take punitive action against the profiteers and hoarders, the deputy commissioner stated that an extensive drive has already been kicked off across the district to overcome the artificial price-hike on the part of the shopkeepers involved in overcharging besides creating artificial scarcity and hoarding.

Mobile teams headed by magistrates have yet been constituted to conduct surprise checking of the prices and the shopkeepers – both wholesalers and retailers, involved in charging exorbitant rates would be booked.

Besides, general shopkeepers, wholesalers and owners of the main shopping malls have also been warned to maintain the prices of the items of daily use – fixed by the administration – during and even after the Holy month of Ramadan. “The violators would be taken to task under the law”, he warned.

Meanwhile, a senior AJK government official told that all the district administrations in AJK had been directed to take stringent measures to discourage illegal profiteering, hoarding and artificial scarcity of edible items during and after the Holy month of Ramazan. He declared that those involved in such an unlawful exercise will be booked.

“The sanctity of this Holy month will be maintained in all circumstances,”the official declared.

“The government is determined to ensure the availability of edibles including mutton, beef, chicken, sugar, vegetables, fruit, flour, rice, pulses and other items at inexpensive rates at Ramzan bazaars as fixed by the concerned district administrations”, the official pointed out.

KARACHI, Mar 25 (APP): Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday announced the establishment of an Information Call Center (ICC) at Sindh Information Department and directed the Secretary Information to prepare a PC-1 for the project.

The Minister announced this while presiding over a meeting held to review the performance of the Information Department at his office.

The minister said that the Call Center would provide timely and authentic information on the policies and initiatives of the Sindh government and will also counter fake news and fake propaganda against the government.
The performance of the Information Department was also reviewed in the meeting.

The Minister said that the performance of the Department should be improved and proper publicity of the development projects of the Sindh government should be ensured.

He said that the Sindh government has done excellent work in every field.

‘It is the responsibility of the Information Department to disseminate and apprise the public regarding the welfare initiatives of the government, he said.

Sharjeel Memon said that focus should be given to Social Media wing of the Department.

Distribution of free flour under BISP continues in Mardan

PESHAWAR, Mar 25 (APP): The distribution of free flour among deserving people under Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) continued for the third consecutive day in district Mardan on Saturday.

For guaranteeing transparency in the distribution of flour, a follow-up meeting was also held with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Captain (Retd) Abdul Rehman in the chair.

During the meeting, the deputy commissioner was given a detailed briefing on the distribution of flour through specially established mega delivery points and at Village Council level through selected dealers and their quota.

The deputy commissioner commended the performance of dealers for the distribution of flour on a quota basis. However, he also expressed annoyance over a few dealers distributing less than the required quota. He directed for doubling the quota of good-performing dealers and the cancellation of the bad-performing ones.

The deputy commissioner also directed to bring further improvement and easiness in the process of the distribution of free flour and taking steps for the issues faced by the dealers and flour mills linked with the mobile software.

He directed the officers of district administration, food, local government, social welfare, civil and others to monitor the distribution of flour to ensure its supply to deserving people in a transparent manner.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued a royal order of providing 150,000 copies of the Holy Quran to the two Holy Mosques with the advent of the month of Ramazan.

The holy books will be printed by King Fahd Complex for Printing, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

General President of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque Sheikh Dr. Abduerrahman Al-Sudais expressed his gratitude to King Salman and Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their generous gesture.

PESHAWAR, Mar 25 (APP): Four people died and 17 others were injured during rain related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) here on Saturday.

It said that in Mardan, two persons were died and two injured when the roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rains while one casualty had also been reported from Peshawar in a similar incident.

The death of a woman in a roof collapse incident is also reported from South Waziristan.

Heavy rains have also damaged six houses including one fully destroyed and five partially damaged. Three cattle were also perished due to heavy rains.

The PDMA has directed administrations of all affected districts to accelerate relief operations in their respective districts.
