PM lauds Rescue-1122 for helping Turkish brethren amidst earthquake devastation

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday lauded the contingent of Rescue-1122 for working day and night with the spirit of humanity and saving the lives of Turkish sisters, brothers and children after the devastating earthquake in Turkiye.

“We salute these brave and dutiful sons of nations, who saved the lives of [Turkish] sisters, brothers and children amidst the earthquake devastation and worked day and night with the spirit of humanity,” he said in a twitter post.

The Prime Minister, who in his tweet also posted a video clip, showing the return of Rescue 1122 contingent to Pakistan at the conclusion of rescue operation in Turkiye, termed it “a proud and soulful scene”.

Court grants 10-day physical remand of Khetran in triple murder case

QUETTA, Feb 23 (APP): A judicial magistrate court on Thursday granted a 10-day physical remand of Provincial Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran in the Barkhan triple murder case.

Sardar Abdul Rahman, who was arrested on Wednesday after the recovery of the dead bodies of a woman and her two sons from a well in Barkhan, was produced by the police in the court of judicial magistrate.

Parliamentary Committee forms sub-body for formulating broad-based policy on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): The Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Thursday unanimously decided to constitute a sub-committee for formulating a comprehensive and broad-based policy on the Kashmir issue, with the mandate to improve the coordination mechanism between the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan.

The decision to the effect was taken in the 33rd meeting (in-camera) of the committee here at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Makhdoomzada Syed Basit Ahmed Sultan.

The meeting was attended by committee members Sardar Riaz Mahmood Khan Mazari, Muhammad Sajjad, Malik Sohail Khan, Muhammad Jamal Ud Din (MNAs) and Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, besides Adviser to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira, AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan and ministers Ch Akbar Ibrahim and Abdul Majid Khan, and senior officers from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kashmir Affairs & GB, Defence, Interior, Information & Broadcasting, Human Rights, National Security Division, PEMRA and AJK Government.

The Secretary Foreign Affairs briefed the committee on the latest situation of the Kashmir dispute, the human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and the activities held in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5.

He also apprised the committee regarding the up-coming G-20 meeting proposed to be held by India in the disputed area of IIOJK.

Qamar Zaman Kaira, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs & GB, also gave a briefing to the committee on the Kashmir issue and Kashmir Solidarity Day activities. He also responded to the various issues raised by the Azad Jammu & Kashmir prime minister and finance minister.

The officials of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority and the Defence and National Security Division also briefed the committee regarding the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day.

Earlier, the committee chairman welcomed the members, special invitees and senior officers in the meeting.

The committee also offered Fateha for the departed souls of civilians, including Sher Alam Mahsud, Ex-Secretary, Ministry of Kashmir Affairs & GB and the martyrs of Pakistan armed forces, police other law enforcement agencies and Kashmiri freedom fighters, including those leaders who died in the illegal, unlawful custody of Indian forces in the IIOJK, and the victims of the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria.

RAWALPINDI, Feb 23 (APP): As many as eight terrorists were killed by the security forces in a follow-up operation launched after foiling an ambush attempt in the Kech District, Balochistan.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release on Thursday, the terrorist on the evening of February 22 (Wednesday), attempted to ambush a convoy of security forces in the Kech District.

The alert and combat-ready troops foiled the cowardly attempt without any loss of life and then immediately commenced a follow-up operation to hunt down the fleeing terrorists using ground and aviation assets.

Resultantly, on Thursday morning a suspected hideout of the terrorists was identified in Mazaaband Range where a sanitisation operation was launched. In the ensuing exchange of fire, eight terrorists were killed with a large cache of arms and ammunition, including explosives, recovered.

“The security forces of Pakistan will continue to thwart such attempts by inimical elements, on the behest of hostile intelligence agencies, to disrupt the hard-earned peace in the province,” the ISPR said.

ADB Mission, Chairman FBR discuss DRM Program

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mission headed by Deputy Country Director Asad Aleem met with Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Asim Ahmad, here on Thursday and discussed the progress on the Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM) program.

He was accompanied by Public Management Specialist (Taxation) Yuji Miyaki and Senior Economist of ADB Ms. Farzana Noshab, said a press release.

Both sides discussed the program to support the resource mobilization initiatives of the government for promoting an inclusive and evidence based institutional framework for tax policy, administration, digital transformation and automation.

The policy actions were thoroughly reviewed in the meeting.

It was agreed that the FBR was on track to achieve the targets of the Program and both sides will continue to work towards identifying further areas of cooperation.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned the recent raid by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank resulting in the death of at least 11 Palestinians including a teenager, and injuries to dozens.

“Such atrocious acts are a flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a statement issued here.

“Government and the people of Pakistan extend their sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and best wishes for full and swift recovery of the injured in this brutal raid,” the Spokesperson added.

She said that such excessive use of force by Israel would further aggravate the tense situation and undermine the prospect of peace in the region.

“Pakistan calls upon the international community to hold Israel accountable for its grave human rights violations against the Palestinians and take necessary action to prevent recurrence of such blatantly illegal acts in future.”

“We reiterate our full support to the people of Palestine, and call for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital,” the Spokesperson maintained.
