Finance Minister inaugurates Centre for Government Data Analytics in AGP

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP):Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday emphasized adopting modern technologies of data analysis including machine learning, AI-based auditing and use of bots for performing analytical functions.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Center for Government Data Analytics at Auditor-General of Pakistan Headquarter, the minister appreciated the establishment of center.

He advised to digitally access all the data available on various data bases of public sector organizations. These measures will enhance the audit coverage, transparency and accountability of public money.

During the visit of the Finance Minister, the Auditor-General of Pakistan Maqbool Ahmad Gondal emphasized a strategic shift from quantity to quality of audits, focusing on entity- and project-based reporting, and fostering a constructive and collaborative environment with auditable entities. Audit is increasingly being used as a tool for improving governance, he stressed.

On reforms and modernization, the Auditor-General outlined his digital transformation initiatives, including the implementation of the Audit Management Information System (AMIS), establishment of a Center for Government Data Analytics, and adoption of data analytics tools to enhance audit efficiency, effectiveness and transparency.

The center has been established in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan for broader digitalization of the economy. With cashless economy initiative moving ahead at great pace, more digital data will be available which this center will access on real basis analyse.

The Controller General of Accounts Umar Ali Khan briefed the minister on CGA’s mandate and performance as the premier Public Financial Management institution responsible for government accounting, pre-audit of payments and financial reporting.

The CGA continues to strengthen accounting systems and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, he said adding that the Controller General of Accounts achieved the targets of cashless and digital public sector economy, micro payment gateway (MPG), RAAST, online billing, migration to SAP HANA and centralized HP Super Dom servers in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

He further said that the transition towards accrual-based accounting in line with international standards is also underway with the support of the World Bank.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to continued reforms, digitalization and collaboration with stakeholders to further strengthen transparency, accountability and efficient use of public resources for the benefit of the citizens of Pakistan.

The minister also appreciated the initiative measures of the Auditor-General of Pakistan regarding developing reporting structure of audit observations on internal standards.

Commissioner conducts surprise visit to BISE Office

RAWALPINDI, Dec 17 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi and Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, Engineer Aamir Khattak, made an unannounced visit to the board office on Wednesday to oversee preparations for the upcoming examinations.

Accompanied by Additional Commissioner and Focal Person for BISE Rawalpindi, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khan, the chairman inspected staff attendance and reviewed arrangements for the Matric (SSC) First Annual Examinations 2026.

During the visit, he stressed that there would be no compromise on merit and transparency in the examination process, affirming a strict policy against any irregularities.

The inspection was followed by a high-level meeting chaired by the commissioner, attended by Secretary Board Amjad Iqbal Khattak, Controller of Examinations Tanveer Asghar Awan and other senior officials. The meeting reviewed examination preparations, discipline, attendance systems and service delivery improvements.

Speaking to the officials, the commissioner emphasized that upholding the institution’s reputation and providing quality services to the public remain top priorities. He instructed all staff to perform their duties with honesty and dedication, adding that strict disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found violating standard operating procedures.

Traditional fair held in memory of Shah Nawaz Khan Junejo showcases Sindh’s cultural heritage

SANGHAR, Dec 17 (APP):A traditional annual fair held in memory of renowned political figure and classical personality Shah Nawaz Khan Junejo continued with vibrant cultural enthusiasm here on Wednesday day, drawing large crowds from across the district.

On the fourth day of the fair, traditional sports including malakhro (Sindhi wrestling), kabaddi and colourful horse races were organised, featuring prominent players from different parts of the country. The competitions generated considerable excitement among spectators, reflecting the enduring appeal of Sindh’s indigenous sports and cultural traditions.

The fairgrounds presented a lively picture of Sindh’s folk heritage, with stalls displaying ajrak, Sindhi caps, traditional attire, handicrafts and live folk music performances. A livestock exhibition featuring goats and buffaloes was also arranged to promote the rural economy and animal husbandry.

Speaking to the media, the fair’s organiser and former MNA Muhammad Khan Junejo said Sindh was one of the world’s oldest civilisations and its culture was a source of identity and pride. He urged the youth to stay connected to their cultural roots, stating that traditional values played an important role in positive mental and physical development. He said the fair was organised to keep alive the legacy of Shah Nawaz Khan Junejo and to promote Sindh’s cultural heritage.

Taluka Chairman Ghulam Murtaza Junejo, Muhammad Khan Bijoro and other participants said such cultural events not only paid tribute to Shah Nawaz Khan Junejo but also helped transfer Sindh’s rich folk traditions and indigenous sports to the younger generation.

7 arrested as D-12 green belt cleared of encroachments

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP):The district administration on Wednesday carried out an operation in Sector D-12 to remove encroachments from a green belt area and arrested seven accused.

According to the administration, the green belt is meant for public access and movement. Any occupation of such land affects daily use by residents and creates problems for traffic and pedestrians. The operation focused on clearing the route and ensuring that the space remains open.

Officials said the removed items were shifted from the site to prevent further obstruction. The area was cleared on the spot, and movement was restored after the operation. The administration stated that similar actions will continue in other sectors where public land is being occupied.

The district administration appealed to citizens to cooperate during such operations. Residents were asked to support efforts aimed at keeping public spaces free from encroachments. The administration also requested people to identify and report those involved in occupying public land.

Authorities said public cooperation helps ensure timely action and reduces pressure on enforcement teams. Information from residents allows officials to reach affected sites quickly and take steps as per the law.

The administration stressed that public land belongs to the community and must remain available for shared use. Green belts, in particular, are planned for access, safety, and movement. Any attempt to block these areas leads to inconvenience for nearby residents.

Officials added that action against encroachments will remain part of routine work. They urged citizens to avoid placing stalls, sheds, or materials on public land and to follow city rules. People were also encouraged to resolve concerns through legal channels rather than occupying space meant for common use.

Aurangzeb Khichi underscores significance of Iqbal thoughts

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP):Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi Wednesday underscored the importance of the thoughts and philosophy of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, saying that they remain highly relevant in the contemporary world.

He was addressing the national conference titled “Fikr-e-Iqbal: Daur-e-Hazir Mein Zarurat o Ahmiyat”, organized by Natonal Language Promotion Department (NLPD) to mark the Iqbal Day.

In his presidential address, the minister expressed concern that today’s younger generation is largely unaware of Iqbal’s philosophy, vision, and his unwavering struggle for the uplift of the Muslim Ummah.

“Iqbal’s message is not only for us but for all nations. We must benefit from his thoughts and teachings,” he urged.

Paying tribute to late Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Khichi said that Siddiqui rendered invaluable services for the preservation and strengthening of institutions such as the National Language Promotion Department (NLPD), adding that “it is because of his efforts that such institutions continue to play their vital role today.”

The minister requested the Director General of NLPD to arrange a meeting with literary institutions and vice chancellors of universities to seek guidance and suggestions for preserving languages, culture and heritage in line with Iqbal’s vision. He assured full support from his ministry in this regard.

“We have written a letter to the Punjab government requesting that to arrange visits of schools children to the heritage sites, and literary places, museums and relevant places to create awareness among youth,” the minister shared.

“It is our national duty to preserve our national language, heritage, and culture,” he added.

Khichi thanked the DG NLPD for inviting him to the national conference on Iqbal’s thought and for giving him the opportunity to preside over the event.

Director General of the National Language Promotion Department (NLPD), Prof. Dr. Saleem Mazhar, delivered the welcome remarks.

He expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests for gracing the occasion and to all participants for their presence.

He stated that the purpose of organizing the national conference was to highlight the pivotal role of Allama Muhammad Iqbal in awakening the Muslims of the Subcontinent and preparing them for the struggle for a separate homeland.

“Iqbal’s thoughts provide guidance to the entire Muslim world. They inspire passion, independence, and hope, and remain exemplary even today,” he remarked.

Prof. Dr. Saleem Mazhar congratulated the winners who secured first, second, third, and fourth positions in the competition organized by NLPD on December 10 in connection with Iqbal Day. He also appreciated the judges and teachers for their support and cooperation in successfully organizing the competition.

He acknowledged the support and collaboration of Askari Bank Limited and the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture Division in making the event possible.

Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam extended his gratitude to DG NLPD Prof. Dr. Saleem Mazhar.

He said, “DG NLPD is a well-known and highly respected personality in Iran and Pakistan, particularly in the field of culture. His personality is a source of goodwill and blessing for cultural development.”

He also appreciated the people of Pakistan who are rendering remarkable services in the field of culture.

The Ambassador said that the personalities like Allama Iqbal, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sheikh Saadi and others were our role models and sources of guidance.

“A society that forgets its role models cannot have a promising future,” he remarked.

He said that Iqbal would always be remembered as a poet, a philosopher, a freedom fighter, and a revolutionary.

At the conclusion, cash prizes and certificates were awarded to eight participants who secured first, second, third, and fourth positions in the competition titled Qalam-e-Iqbal, held on December 10.

Certificates were also distributed among all students who participated in the competition.

Father’s business partner arrested in 3-Year-old girl’s abduction, murder case

ORAKZAI, Dec 17 (APP):Police have arrested the business partner of the father of a three-year-old girl in connection with her abduction and murder in Orakzai district.

Addressing a press conference, District Police Officer (DPO) Orakzai, Shoukat Ali, said that the minor girl was abducted on November 19 and later brutally murdered.

He said the child’s body was buried in the mountains four days after the abduction, and the remains of the body have now been recovered.

The DPO said that investigations revealed the involvement of the victim’s father’s business partner in the crime.

The accused allegedly demanded Rs 500,000 and the transfer of a coal mine into his name from the girl’s father.

He further stated that out of 19 suspects taken into custody, four have confessed to the crime.

Police have presented four accused before the court and obtained a seven-day physical remand for further investigation.

The DPO added that investigations are ongoing and those involved will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Police pay tribute to martyred constable

GUJRAT, Dec 17 (APP):A special prayer ceremony was held at the native village of martyred Constable Tariq Aziz in Mararian to mark his martyrdom anniversary, in line with the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar.

According to a police spokesperson, the ceremony was attended by DSP Kharian Circle Shahid Muhammad, SHO Kakrali SI Tahir-uz-Zaman, In-charge Welfare Branch Sajjad Ahmed, family members of the martyr, police officers and local residents.

The participants paid homage at the grave of the martyred constable, where DSP Kharian Circle laid wreaths. A contingent of police presented a salute, while special prayers were offered for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks.

District Police Officer (DPO) Gujrat Rana Umar Farooq paid rich tribute to Constable Tariq Aziz for laying down his life in the line of duty. He said police martyrs are a source of pride, who sacrificed their today to secure a safer tomorrow, and reaffirmed that their sacrifices would never go in vain.

PITB organizes training on OGRA API Enterprise Layer

LAHORE, Dec 17 (APP):PITB in collaboration with Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has organized a two-day training session on the ‘OGRA API Enterprise Layer’ for the senior IT and Operation representatives from Refineries and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

The participants represented Pakistan State Oil (PSO), PARCO Gunvor, Pak Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), Attock Refinery, Attock Petroleum and Gas & Oil Pakistan.

The session, presided by PITB Joint Director Law & Order Rai Rashid, focused on acquainting the participants with the system features, reporting mechanisms, and effective usage of the platform to support regulatory monitoring and operational efficiency. OGRA Joint Executive Director Jawad Jamil was also present.

PITB developed ‘OGRA API Enterprise Layer’ is first of its kind system in Pakistan that tracks and traces the supply chain system for gas and oil companies to ensure transparency, smooth process and service delivery.
