‘Students facilitation is our motto’, says VC AIOU

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (APP): Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood on Tuesday said it was our motto to facilitate the students by using all means of technology.

While chairing the Regional Directors Conference yesterday, the Vice Chancellor presented his roadmap, vision, and mission regarding the regional network.

Director General Regional Services, Dr. Malik Tauqir Ahmad Khan hosted the meeting while all the regional directors participated online.

During the conference, Dr. Nasir Mahmood emphasized the importance of using modern technology by the regional directors and their staff to meet the modern requirements of education.

Dr. Nasir emphasized the solution to the problems of students at their doorstep.

He stressed that minor issues should not require students to come to Islamabad for their resolution.

Dr. Nasir further stated that the provision of a conducive environment and facilities for students is essential to boost their confidence in the university.

He assured that the university will ensure transparency in administrative, teaching and examination matters. In the second week of December, Regional Directors will gather in Islamabad to discuss and suggest ways to increase enrollment.

All the Regional Directors congratulated Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood on his appointment as the permanent Vice Chancellor and assured him of their full cooperation and support.

Moreover, Directorate of Regional Services invited former Director, Regional Services (1978 to 1995) Prof. Dr. Azhar Hameed, at the Golden Jubilee celebrations “Leadership Stories”.

Dr. Azhar Hameed said that the first open university “The Open University” was created in Great Britain while we created the second Open University in the world. We started the teaching process with the foundation course, after which we moved towards PTOC and general education.

Azhar Hameed Khan said that we have grown gradually, today Open University has gained worldwide recognition and celebrating 50 years.

He presented his book titled “We created the second Open University of the World ” to Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood and DGRS, Dr. Malik Tauqeer Ahmed Khan.

Solangi, Pervez Ashraf discuss upcoming general elections

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi Tuesday called on Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf.

In the meeting, the upcoming general elections and other important issues were discussed, said a press release issued here.

They emphasized the need for a free, fair and transparent election process in the country.

The Caretaker government was committed to conduct free and fair elections, Solangi added.

He said the government would provide all necessary resources and support to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The minister reiterated the commitment that elections would be ensured in a transparent and credible manner.

The speaker welcomed the government’s determination for holding free and fair elections.

Farmers advised to start cultivation of melon, water melon in tunnels

FAISALABAD, Nov 21 (APP): Agriculture experts advised farmers to start off-season cultivation of melons, water melons and vegetables of the summer in tunnels.
A spokesman for the agricultural (extension) department told APP on Tuesday that progressive farmers were adopting tunnel technology and earning much money by cultivating off-season vegetables in low, walk-in and high tunnels.
He said it was impossible for farmers to grow summer vegetables manually during the winter.
However, summer vegetables like cucumber, tomato, sweet chilies, green chilies, pumpkin, sponge gourd, bitter gourd, vegetable marrow, red gourd, Brinjal, water melon, musk melon, etc could be grown easily and successfully in tunnels during winter, he added.
He said tunnel-grown vegetables were covered by green fiber sheets to protect crops from severe cold and frost. With the intensive care, farmers could get early production of the summer vegetables and earn more income than seasonal vegetables, he added.

59 marlas graveyard land recovered in anti-encroachment drive

PESHAWAR, Nov 21 (APP): The district administration, in its ongoing anti-encroachment operation, has demolished illegal structures built on graveyard land and recovered 59 marlas of encroached land.
The operation was conducted in Beri Bagh, Beju, and Zahid Abad graveyards, resulting in the arrest of three people for resisting the operation.
Under the directive of Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Afaq Wazir, Administrator Auqaf Hameed Gagyani, and Additional Assistant Commissioner Saleem Ayubi conducted an operation against encroachments in graveyards. A police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. The administrators emphasized that the encroachers had been repeatedly warned, but they failed to voluntarily remove the encroachments.
The district administration, therefore, conducted the operation to eliminate encroachments and restore the sanctity of cemeteries. Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Afaq Wazir, instructed officers to conduct daily inspections of markets and other locations and take strict action against violators of the law.
