WIPO high level delegation to visit Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 (APP): Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan will organize a series of events from tomorrow on Tuesday in connection with the closing ceremony of WIPO’s project on ‘Intellectual Property and Women Entrepreneurs in Embroidery’ and related crafts business.
The closing ceremony of the events will be held on December 7, in which Caretaker Minister for Commerce Dr Gohar Ejaz will be the chief guest, said a press release issued here on Monday.
A three-member WIPO delegation is visiting Pakistan to attend the events. The delegation comprises of Hasan Kleib Deputy Director General WIPO, Ms. Yaning Zhang and Dr David Simmons Counsellors Division for Asia and the Pacific Regional and National Development Sector WIPO.
On the first day of the visit on December 5, the WIPO delegation will visit Foreign Service Academy and Pakistan Institute for Trade and Development (PITAD). On the second day, the delegation will visit the Foreign Office and also visit the IPO-Pakistan headquarters.
Chairman IPO-Pakistan Farukh Amil, Director General IPO, Ms. Shazia Adnan, Secretary Commerce Muhammad Sualeh Ahmad Faruqui and Deputy Director General World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Hassan Kleib will also attend the ceremony.
During the closing ceremony, women entrepreneurs will showcase their cultural performances and display their projects. Selected women entrepreneurs from Multan and Bahawalpur regions will apprise the audience about their success stories.
Pakistan gets $100m support for polio eradication; Dr. Nadeem Jan
ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Dr. Nadeem Jan on Monday said that a support of $100 million had been obtained from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for the eradication of polio.
Addressing the “Reaching the last mile” forum related to Polio in COP-28 in UAE, the minister said that this was a major accomplishment. He said that the efforts towards the eradication of polio had achieved significant success.
He expressed special gratitude to the IDB, the United Arab Emirates and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for their support in providing assistance for the eradication of polio.
Dr. Nadeem Jan pledged full determination for the eradication of polio from Pakistan. He said that the grant allocated for the eradication of polio was being efficiently utilized, ensuring effective expenditure.
The minister said, “We are ensuring the fulfillment of the desired objectives for the eradication of polio with utmost certainty.”
He added that for the eradication of polio, existing resources would be utilized in line with the broader agenda of Global Health Security.
The minister emphasized that our strategy for the eradication of polio was based on four practical pillars. The first pillar involves collaboration and engagement with all stakeholders, the second pillar focuses on integration, while the third pillar is innovation and fourth is investment sensitive operations, he added.

ETEA BoGs approves exemption of fee for persons with disabilities
PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP): The meeting of the Board of Governors (BoGs) of Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday approved exemption of fee for persons with disabilities for appearing in all types of tests under ETEA.
This was decided in the BoGs meeting chaired by the Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Arshad Hussain Shah who termed it a big relief for the persons with disabilities, adding that now such candidates would appear in any test under ETEA without paying a penny.
The BoGs also decided to set up a committee to devise a procedure for disposing of mobile phones seized from candidates during various ETEA tests. The committee to be headed by the caretaker CM would review all the legal and technical aspects and finalized its recommendations in this regard.
The meeting deliberated on matters related to the prevention of cheating in board examinations and tests under ETEA and decided to lay down an action plan for the prevention of the use of modern technology for cheating purposes in examinations and tests.
It also decided to identify the elements involved in the facilitation of candidates in cheating and using unfair means in the examinations and tests and taking strict legal action against them.
The CM condemning the practice said that cheating in exams was a scourge and a crime against society, adding that strict measures were needed for its effective prevention.
He directed all partner departments and institutions to prepare a comprehensive and effective action plan together to stop this practice. Later the meeting approved the budget estimates of ETEA for the financial year 2023-24.

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 04 (APP): Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman here on Monday said that youth were a valuable asset to our country and investing in them was pivotal for development and prosperity. It is the need of the hour to equip the young generation with technical education, he said and added that technical education was a source to achieve the goals of national production and development.
He expressed these views while inaugurating the Advanced IT Lab in the Government Technical Training Institute of Bahawalpur which was established with the cooperation of China. The Governor said that the journey of national development can only be paced up with the supremacy of the constitution and rule of law. He said the previous government had pushed the youth into the darkness of despair during its four years tenure. He said the societies progress when merit prevails.

PSX stays bullish, gains 801 points
ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP): The 100-index of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) Monday continued with a bullish trend, gaining 801.80 points, a positive change of 1.30 percent, closing at 62,493.05 points against 61,691.25 points the previous trading day.
A total of 734,294,598 shares valuing Rs 31.641 billion were traded during the day as compared to 531,334,211 shares valuing Rs 21.558 billion the last day.
Some 387 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 248 of them recorded gains and 120 sustained losses, whereas the share prices of 19 remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were WorldCall Telecom with 57,079,786 shares at Rs1.57 per share, Fauji Cement with 41,984,500 shares at Rs 20.07 per share and Oil and Gas Dev. with 38,810,103 shares at Rs 115.39 per share.
Unilever Foods witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 700.00 per share price, closing at Rs 22,200, whereas the runner-up was Rafhan Maize with a Rs 633.23 rise in its per share price to Rs 11,490.00.
Hoechst Pak. witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 48.00 per share closing at Rs 1,201.00, followed by Pak Suzuki with a Rs 40.90 decline to close at Rs 504.39.
