Sindh Cultural Day celebrated, Soormiyun lights up Islamabad with vibrant colors and cultural harmony

ISLAMABAD, Dec 03 (APP): A cultural organization, Soormiyun in collaboration with Sindh Cultural Department and Takori, painted the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad with vibrant hues and lively music as they celebrated Sindhi Cultural Day.

The grand event aimed to showcase the rich tapestry of Sindhi culture while emphasizing the importance of cultural harmony and empowering women from diverse backgrounds and fields.

Federal Education Minister Madad Ali Sindhi on Sunday graced the event as the chief guest, while Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi added prestige to the Sindhi cultural program.

The event revolved around providing a platform to promote cultural harmony, empower women to combat the hazards of global warming and recognize women from various walks of life. The captivating Soormiyun song resonated through the venue, beautifully encapsulating the spirits of Soormiyun working in Islamabad. Throughout the celebration, various activities were organized to foster cultural understanding and the importance of unity.

Cultural tabloos showcasing the diversity of Sindhi culture, along with panel discussions, were conducted to promote cultural harmony, peace, women’s role in climate change, and gender equality through women’s empowerment.

Gulnaz Sheikh, the founder of Soormiyun, expressed that these programs extend beyond a one-day event. According to Sheikh, Sindh is the land of Sufism, and Soormiyun, being Shah Latif’s disciples, are spreading the core message of cultural diversity, love, peace, and gender equality within cultural values by empowering women. Gulnaz Sheikh emphasized,

“Soormiyun envisions a society where there is no place for extremism but where cultural diversities flourish and are celebrated, and today’s event is a testament to our commitment to fostering these ideals”, she added.

The event welcomed people from all communities, not only showcasing the vibrant Sindhi culture but also serving as a reminder of the power of cultural exchange in promoting understanding and unity among diverse communities.

Dr. Umar Saif unveils Pakistan’s IT potential

ISLAMABAD, Dec 03 (APP):In a groundbreaking initiative, the Pakistan-Qatar IT Conference commenced at the JW Marriott Marquis City Center in Doha, Qatar, drawing active participation from prominent Pakistani IT firms and local Qatari businesses.
The inauguration ceremony was led by the Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Dr Umar Saif.
During his address at the conference, Dr Umar Saif introduced the technological prowess of Pakistan to a diverse audience, comprising both business leaders and government executives in Qatar, according to a news release received here on Sunday.
This event marks the maiden voyage of an IT delegation from Pakistan to Qatar, aiming to tap into the considerable unexplored opportunities in the region and bolster Pakistan’s IT exports.
The historic visit of the Pakistani delegation, spearheaded by Dr Umar Saif, began with a noteworthy event at the Pakistan embassy. Attended by the Pakistani diaspora in Qatar and representatives from 30 leading IT companies in Pakistan, the gathering set the tone for fostering stronger bilateral relations.
Jointly organized by the Pakistani Embassy, the Pakistan Software Houses Association (PSHA), and the Pakistan Business Council of Qatar, the event underscored the collaborative efforts to explore and harness the vast untapped potential in Qatar for the mutual benefit of both nations.
As the conference unfolds, expectations are high for fruitful discussions and partnerships that will not only elevate Pakistan’s IT industry but also contribute to the growth and development of the Qatari technology sector.

NDMA showcased Pakistan’s strategic project Green Pakistan Initiative at COP28

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Sunday showcased Pakistan’s strategic project Green Pakistan Initiative during a plenary discussion “Strengthening Delivery: Aligning development, humanitarian and climate finance” organised by IFAD and Green Climate Fund (GCF) at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) at UAE meeting.

Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General, Inam Haider Malik participated in a special session and highlighted Pakistan’s Proactive Disaster Management enhancing indigenous capacities to prevent and minimise disaster losses, a news release said.

He also discussed climate-smart agriculture collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Chairman NDMA stressed the need to provide climate finances to undertake projects in disaster-hit countries like Pakistan.

He also held a meeting with Practice Manager, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, South Asia Region, World Bank, Abhas Jha at COP28, Dubai.

Both discussed possible collaborations with WB for long-term sustainability and extended scope of National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) operations, capacity strengthening interventions. The World Bank official assured of their support and potential collaborations to strengthen the overall disaster risk management (DRM) system in the country.

At another sideline meeting with the CEO IRC, David Milliband, the NDMA Chairman apprised of the operations of the NEOC established at the NDMA and its critical role in anticipating disasters well in advance to ensure timely actions for saving losses of lives and properties. The CEO IRC outlined the work being carried out by IRC, and stated that IRC is now investing in Anticipatory Actions with a belief that it can play a crucial role in averting humanitarian disasters.

CM Balochistan announces exemption of fares for PWDs in green bus

QUETTA, Dec 03 (APP): Balochistan Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki has announced the exemption of fares for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the green bus service running in Quetta.
He said steps would be taken to ensure the implementation of employment quota in public and private institutions and the availability of facilities for PWDs as per international and national laws.

Addressing an event organized here on Sunday in connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare Balochistan and non-governmental organizations, Ali Mardan said that 10 to 12 percent of people in the country are suffering from disabilities which are matter to us and are close to our hearts.
He said that the caretaker provincial government is utilizing all available resources for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

The chief minister said “we all have to work together to protect the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities and not let them feel that they are in any way inferior in abilities. He said that facilitation should be created for the welfare of PWDs and a positive change in the overall social attitudes is to be brought.

He said that measures were being taken at the government level to make people with disabilities useful citizens of the society and any suggestions for improvement in this regard would be welcomed.
